I was the driver who gave Michelle a lift home tonight. I loved the film, I learned so much about Elvis especially his musical influences and the horrific abuse he suffered at the hands of the Colonel. I wasn’t aware of the factual inaccuracies and in my opinion, they made no difference to the story being told. Have always enjoyed his music but have gained a new respect for the man tonight.
Brilliant performances from Austin and Tom

I've just got home about 10 mins ago. Absolutely loved it. I'm one very happy Elvis fan right now. At the end part of the film I turned to look at my daughter and she was in tears.....like me.. They did a beautiful job and Austin and the cast were amazing. Its a stunning film beautifully done. I'm so happy. The cinema was packed only a few seats went unfilled. There was a little old lady of about 80 there on her own. Others were mixed aged families...I was really impressed with the turnout. You could have heard a pindrop....not a single sound from audience they were all hooked completely

Not a peep from the whole audience in my cinema too, only with the laughter in the funny scenes of the movie (like Parker in the 68 special going ape), some crying at the sad scenes, but everyone was glued to the movie. I could hardly take my eyes off the screen for almost 3 hours. Never had that experience in a cinema before, and it flew by!

I've just got back from the movie...It's hard to believe that this man was a real person....how this guy changed the face of music...no one had ever seen anything like this and if Elvis hadn't existed how would music be today... Austin Butler definitely had the essence of Elvis and what Ive seen and read about The Colonel I imagine Tom has got it pretty spot on...Elvis would never realize how much he was truly loved and he needed to be able to spread his wings to find that love from around the world and he hung on to that dream, that promise that was constantly made but of course we know why it never happened and the affect it had on Elvis..there was obviously some poetic license used by Baz but it was done to enhance and tell the story...I thought the costumes were amazing and the ending was heartbreaking...I had guessed that's how it would end with Austin at the piano but when it changed I wasn't expecting that....superb....when I see artists perform today, like I've just seen a little bit of Glastonbury, no one has the stage presence that Elvis had but most of all, no one can sing a song, any song, live, without auto tune or any special effects like Elvis could...as Placido Domingo said..." Elvis had the voice that I wanted ".

Yes, changes the face of music. And, fashion, culture, art and the artists that came out in heards that flooded in and couldn't be stopped. He exposed the brilliant black artists to the world. Then the next generation got influenced by Them! It's a very colourful world now, it may have been a cloudy dull place if this explosion didn't take place. Many of us probably wouldn't have been born. Looks is nothing if it doesn't come from inside a great heart, and this resonates out with me. And everyone who has met him.

Just come back from the cinema, I went with deep trepidation with it being a Baz Luhrmann film, I can't stand his movies, BUT...I absolutely LOVED this film, it went right up there on my all-time favorite list.
Never had a cinema experience like it.
The amazing 50s sets, the style, the blues music, the Elvis concerts...STUNNING.
The 60s turmoil was captured brilliantly, and that 68 special..fantastic music, and Austin was incredible he was the nearest to Elvis I have seen, and Tom Hanks as the Cornell going ape as his beloved Christmas special was ruined, hilarious.
Then the 70s powerful cinematic full effect huge band sound and Elvis's incredible vocals, amazing experience.
The ending was so sad but brilliantly done and respectful, well done Mr. Luhrmann, as a great storyteller and director you put on an amazing show, Elvis would be proud, Baz you have gone up in my estimation 1000%.
Of course, when the real Elvis appeared at the end he lit up that cinema, the charisma exploded out and it was an amazing sonic experience.
So happy! Can't believe I sat for almost 3 hours, flew by far too quickly.
I want the 4-hour version asap. Oscars all around please, stunningly beautiful, the best and most entertaining film I have seen in a very long time!

@@lynetteh824 Sorry don't know much about the 4-hour version, just know Baz hinted at it. I expect it will come out with a special extended DVD release and stream at some point. The cinematic version would be awesome but I don't think it will happen. However a lot probably depends on the film ticket performance, so I am seeing it again for sure.
BTW it's getting some great reviews from fans and none fans all over RUclips.

The King LIVES! I was joyful and my heart broke in a rollercoaster emotional ride. I even went to the movie with what I thought was a great Elvis themed outfit with my black and white Jailhouse Rock 50s swing dress and blue petticoat underneath the dress with a Blue Hawaii Hawaiian flower headband. I took a Polaroid photo with the movie manager who was dressed as Elvis. This movie better get 3 Oscars!

We went yesterday, I wiped tears away most of the movie, my wife who has lived with Elvis all our married life had goosebumps, she thought Austin Butler was fantastic, I really enjoyed the Beale Street scenes, and the real portrayal of Elvis love for Gospel and Blues, if you walk Beale Street now and close your eyes, you feel Elvis walking with his Black Brothers and Sisters, that was shown in the film. Overall I really enjoyed it, wish they had shown a bit more of his Generosity to all , not just his friends. I think people will see Colonel Sanders negatively , although we know at the very beginning he was brilliant. It's difficult to get all Elvis's life in 2 hours 40, but I enjoyed it. X

It was an emotional roller coaster for me. I knew that it was going to be a little inaccurate, so I saw it for what it was. I absolutely loved it and plan on seeing it again. As a man, I was embarrassed that it made me cry and I had a hard time hiding it. After the movie was over I had a different reaction as I was sad and mad at the same time. That anger was for TomParker as he let his selfishness and greed derail Elvis from furthering himself musically and personally. The rest of the world deserved the chance to see him in person and Parker took that away from them and Elvis.

Oh Jack please don't feel embarrassed. It's alright to cry. It simply means you have a heart. There were some traumatic happenings in the movie. I really find it most impossible for a true fan not to be overcome with that emotion. So it's okay. Don't feel bad. Just so you know, I left feeling so sad and mad too. The Colonel sold out Elvis for his own gain and benefit without any care or concern for the man. Colonel robbed Elvis of his fire. It totally broke my heart when Elvis in the car with Priscilla said he didn't have dreams anymore. It was so pitiful! Take care Jack.

Did you know that Colonel and Elvis never has a formal contract btw.? Elvis could move on without Parker yet he sticked with that guy till the end. Just like prescription pills, It was all Elvis decision. He was a very proud and hard headed man. Some reason he lost will to live. Maybe the drugs altered his behavior/personality. He was weary n ended his life by overdose drug himself.

First of all I'm an Elvis fan!
I watched the movie yesterday evening in Roma (I'm Italian).
Here everybody knows Elvis (maybe not all of his songs) and we missed very much he couldn't have come to make concerts here in Italy. He made a lot of italian famous songs cover (It's now or never for example) and I think he desired to come (listen to his song Somewhere in the heart of Rome)....But in the movie you can understand why....the total Colonel Parker's control upon him....
It makes me feel so sad....thinking about a so great artist stolen too early to life only for the money hunger of a businessman...
He tried to shrug him off, but he couldn't...
The movie is well made with a wonderful soundtrack, but it makes me sad, and his last performance made me cry ...
    Austin....he deserves an Oscar!
    And I danced tooo 🤣

I went today to the first showing in my Cinema 12.50 pm with my partner who is not a fan and with in the first 15 minutes he said this is a brilliant film “ it’s beautifully put together. It wasn’t quite as I had expected , it was better . Being a lifelong fan there are things that jar a little because they’re not quite as they should be but you do have to except this film as a representation of the phenomenon partnership between Elvis and Parker . I love Tom Hanks and he did a great job here as well BUT Austin Butler Is amazing the amount of research and work he has obviously put in to get a little bit of the magic of Elvis is very evident . Tiny little movements in the 68 segment Blew me away , and some where not quite right and of course nobody fills a leather suit like Elvis . The ttwii shows were also extremely well done a little too much make up and tan but as I say you can overlook these things . We all know about Elvis and his temper and I think that it was very well done I could understand that he could bring you to tears l do have to say l did have one or two tears to wipe away at the end when we get to see and hear the real thing do what we love him so for pouring his heart out to and for his fans . Thank you Baz and cast for a great tribute to Elvis Presley. When l watched it again at 4.20 pm l enjoyed it even more . Can’t wait now for Sundays showing 👌⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love your review Michelle! I went to the cinema with my Mum (who is probably one of the biggest Elvis fans I know) and my Dad also came along. I was so nervous about it before it started, mainly because I wasn't sure how they were going to portray Elvis. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the only real tiny bit of criticism I have for the movie, is like you said, 1 or 2 of the things that they included looked in the wrong order.
But that honestly didn't bother me, because I felt that even though that towards the end of Elvis's life it was really tough for Elvis (as we all know), the movie still showed that Elvis was still human, and still got nervous, frustrated and scared even though he was (still is) the best singer/performer ever. But Elvis's fantastic inspiring legacy still lives on! It showed Elvis's personal life, his career and his ups and downs. Just like a good biopic should. It's sad, joyous and dramatic at the same time. I would say that Elvis's life was a rollercoaster, but no matter how tough it is you have to keep going, and that's how Elvis had inspired me.
He kept trying and pushing to do something he wanted to do no matter what people said or thought.

@Paul Gwyn I thought Tom Hanks was brilliant! To be honest I was sceptical at first about his accent, but I realised that even if it was a weird fake accent, his acting was top class. But I thought that Austin Butler and Tom Hanks portrayed the Elvis and Tom Parker characters perfectly

I also saw it today and loved it! Austin was amazing, even better than I thought he would be. It flew by so fast, I didn't want to say goodbye to him at the end, I felt so sad; it's not as if I didn't know the end of the story, but I wanted to stay with Austin/Elvis longer. I can't stop thinking about it, it was really outstanding. I have to see it again, I'll go in a couple of days.

No words ... it was everything I'd hoped for except not long enough LOL ! As fans , we know how much more there was to Elvis's life that we want people to know about ... but what was there was magnificent ! Tom Hanks was so good and Austin ... what can you say about that young man except he deserves an Oscar ! Agree with you about the ending ... so emotional and draining ! My granddaughter loved it ... the three grandsons will see it next with me in a few days and then I'll go back alone . So much more to discover ... TCB as usual !

Brilliant movie and brilliant cast. They were all really, really good. It went soo fast! I just relaxed and enjoyed it. I put the recliner seat back, ate my popcorn etc and tried to take it all in. I cried at the end too. It was so poignant, respectful & emotional. I was crying but had an Elvis mask on over a mask and just let the tears run because I couldn’t blow my nose anyway. 😂😂 A lot of facts and a lot of fun. Lots of music, color, and Austin at times, I would forget he was playing a character & was just watching Elvis. I’m headed back today again. Then I’ll have accumulated enough points to see it this coming week with my family on the gigantic XD screen. Thanks so much for sharing your review with us Michelle. I’m happy it was such a success. 🎸🎸🕺🏻🕺🏻🎤🎤🍿🍿 Go Elvis!!!!!

I just got home from the movie. I’m still emotional! Wow Austin as Elvis! That was waaaay too sexy! I’m 60 and blushing! I liked Toms performance. I did not see the prosthetic problems. After 1/2 hr, I didn’t see Tom anymore, just the snake that was Col Parker. The accent didn’t bother me at all , I thought it was quite good . Tom IS an outstanding actor. I love Tom Hanks. The Vegas performances were intense . I teared up throughout . I went with 3 older sisters. Don’t know if they cried too but they loved it! I would see it again alone with some tissue. Lots of tissue! I find myself wishing we could go back in time and warn him about that evil selfish and greedy man. I wish Elvis was able to live his dreams of traveling to perform around the world. Maybe his fate would have been different. Maybe he would still be here today as and old man. Wouldn’t that be something?!

Hi, well I saw it twice yesterday. No exaggeration to say the first time I was an emotional wreck at the end. Second time I got to absorb a bit more and will be going back several times more. It was incredible. I felt like I was actually there with them. I thought Tom Hanks did an great job as the caricature villain (not too accurate in places but hey Ho…I expected that). But Austin Butler…..we’ll, what can I say, I love him for loving and understanding Elvis and for brining Elvis to a whole new audience and for his part in seeing Elvis’ legacy continue. The sets, costume, music, they all deserve the highest praise and Oscar’s all round. I am so proud of Elvis and so proud to be an Elvis fan ❤

I was 12 yrs old when he passed and when they showed the funeral scenes, the news clips, and the
“Unchained Melody” performance of the T.V. special I lost it. It was just too much for this 57 yr old man to handle. As far as the rest of the movie it just moved to fast at times for me. I wished that they would have shown more about the Aloha from Hawaii T.V. special maybe if we do get a director’s cut later on we can get more footage. Thank you for the video and keeping Elvis’ memory alive.

I just got home from the movie.
By far the best depiction of The Life and Times of Elvis.
I was so flabbergasted by the richness of detail in every scene.
I loved the way the music was mixed in Dolby Surround Sound.! Austin and Tom were
AWESOME.!! They literally brought those two characters to life.!! BAZ did a great job showing the humanity, vulnerability and naivety of Elvis who was ultimately let down by the two people he trusted most: The colonel and his father. Even though the ending was very sad, I feel it acknowledged the reality of how and why this great Legendary performer deteriorated from a broken heart, feeling trapped, betrayed and no way out. Overall the movie was Great.!!! Elvis's voice was truly Amazing & Unique. His creative and artistic expression was pure magic and genius.! I feel so privileged & blessed to have seen him twice in concert.!! Words cannot express the energy that flows the moment he steps on stage. To say the least, an awe-inspiring event.!! I'll Always Love Elvis because to me Elvis is family.!
Thank you brother for enriching my life.!! ♥️

My favorite portrayals were Gladys and Steve Binder, Austin nailed the 68 comeback and the Vegas years. Even 50s Elvis (historically been the hardest to portray) had some great parts, Austin's outburst after the Steve Allen show felt real, as did his clash with Gladys.
I just loved the Presley family huddle right before the film went a million miles an hour, outside the Hayride.
I had my reservations about the contemporary music but it was tastefully done. Suited early Elvis really well. It helped those my age (18-25) understand how groundbreaking Elvis really was.

I first saw Elvis when I was 10 (1964); he was on tv in 'Jailhouse Rock'. I was blown away! When he sang the title number of the movie, I felt like 'cool' had hit me in the face. I asked my mom if I could start combing my hair. I had to wait until I was 12. I've collected his records ever since (500 plus and counting). I took my wife to see him on New Year's Eve 1975 at the Pontiac Silverdome in Mich. (she cried when he sang 'And I Love You So). My daughter and I went to see this movie on June 26th and we loved it. I had told her before the film started that, more than getting the look and voice right, they had to absolutely get the mannerisms and movements right. Well, they absolutely DID! Austin was terrific in the role of Elvis. Tom Hanks was great, as always. Glad you enjoyed it, Michelle. (Try to control your emotions a little. LOL)

Just got to bed having seen the film in Grantham. Oh my goodness, where do I start? Negatives - the 50's portion was frenetic and some parts a little out of sync. Same with the 70's too. As you say, some situations were changed to suit the pace of the film and I guess only fans would spot these so no great issue.
Positives - tremendous performances from Austin and Tom; the production was faultless; the sets totally authentic; the supporting cast were phenomenal; the entire film was clearly made with a lot of reverence and love for our Elvis.
The ending was just beautiful; I agree with you, when it cut from Austin to the real Elvis, I heard a sharp intake of breath from the whole room.....just fabulous. Plenty of years were she'd too and you know what At least 40% of the audience were TEENAGERS!! How fabulous was that. And as the auditorium cleared at the end, I just heard........ sniffles!!! Would I see it again...? Yes absolutely, tomorrow in fact. What the film does overall, is give people a sense of what the world's FIRST superstar went through and although the villain of the piece*, Parker helped that process both good and bad. You know one thing that comes to mind now? Will the Academy give Baz and the cast their dues? I hope so.
    TCB always for Elvis

Wow! How Elvis' short forty-two years in this life were covered was pretty amazing. Elvis was an incredible talent and at the same time I felt kinda sad with the events and circumstances he went though- I think I actually felt some guilt because I wasn't fully aware of the things he was experiencing in his last years, although I knew he gained weight. That may sound kinda weird and "guilt" may not be the best word. I was teary-eyed as I sang along with "If I Can Dream" and "In The Ghetto" during the closing.
I'll have to think about it a little bit more: I don't know if I fully agree with Tom Hanks' Colonel Tom when he said that "love" killed him. I welcome and invite your thoughts, Michelle, on that. Yes, Elvis had a lot of love, and definitely not to take any wind out of the sails: it almost seemed like he was a victim of circumstance.
The actors were great and as the closing credits ran, I noticed the construction coordinator was named "Bernie!" 😁
    Love and T⚡️C⚡️B ❤
