    Always great to refer back to your videos Lee. I had my Sunfish out yesterday (8 knots with gusts to 18 which was a lot of fun!). I was concentrating on my tell tales on the sail, and found that they were pretty much useless on port tack due to the mast interference. This video confirmed that for me so I'll be add more farther back. You also gave me some other ideas too to try out.
    (I also get a chuckle when you say "sailing by the Lee" 🙂)
    Thank you again for all you do for the Sunfish class and for all sailors!

    The color coded telltales are a good idea that way you know what tack you are on. I was on a cruising boat that was struck by lightning in a bad squall and the Captain became disoriented. When the weather cleared the Captain found that the boat had been turned around in the storm. Those little colored ribbons can help a Captain navigate with increased situational awareness in bad weather.

    I’d also add that, to help telltales fly, especially if they get wet, a quick spray with McLube or dry Teflon spray will help them keep flying and not stuck to the sail.

    Hi Lee, thank you for your videos they are super helpful! I’m having trouble stopping my sunfish when bringing it back to shore. Can you make a video on how to approach a dock or shoreline under different conditions?

    You mentioned the board. In one of your videos you interviewed some on who had bungees in front and behind the board. The 2 lines are attached with hog clips. Do you know how he attaches the entire system to the splash rail?

    • @LeeSideSailing
      @LeeSideSailing  3 месяца назад

      It goes around the whole splash rail…. Makes a triangle shape.

    • @Happ465
      @Happ465 3 месяца назад

      @@LeeSideSailing Is it using the bungee around the splash board so it is completely removed when the boat is put away? Or is it attached to the splash board by screws or other means?

    You can also use a paper straw as long as you don't capsize😂

    Thanks for the video, I just bought my first sunfish and was wondering where and what would be best for tell tales. How close to windward should I reasonably expect to go when properly trimmed? 30 degrees? 45?

    • @LeeSideSailing
      @LeeSideSailing  Год назад +1

      Thanks!! would say beteren 30-45 °. Depending if youre in port of starboard and the wind conditions:)

    Hi Lee, i learned from you that sailing by the lee downwind in a sunfish is faster. That is not intuative and I assume requires a vang to be so. please do a vid on various vanguard rigs for sunfish. KVL

    • @LeeSideSailing
      @LeeSideSailing  Год назад

      It definitely is not intuitive and requires a bit of nerves before getting the hang of it because it is in the zone right before the sail wants to jibe. But once you get it it is a nice thing to be able to do:). As far as a vang. What ever you use will work.

    I like your videos. I just bought a Sunfish. Took basic sailing classes too. Now is getting out there; I have been out a couple of times. Which of your videos you recommend I start with? Thank you!

    I have always used telltales on my boats. The leach of the Sunfish sail seems to set a bit different than the marconi main and there is no boom vang or traveler. Is it worth it worth it to put telltales on the leach of a Sunfish sail.

    • @LeeSideSailing
      @LeeSideSailing  2 года назад

      Many people like the leech tell tail, it’s not head to do- So if you don’t like it - not much is lost. :).
