The rule says If an attack pool includes the Ion X keyword, at the start of the Modify Attack Dice step of the attack sequence, before any other eff ects, the defending unit must fl ip active shield tokens, if able, for each hit or critical result in the attack roll, up to X. Since you apply cover and Dodge tokens before you move to the modify dice step. He wouldn't have a hit or critical during this step.

I've been really enjoying this Battle Force Beatdown series! It's been a ton of fun seeing these wild lists surging into conflict with different playstyles. Loved to see Bobbb's BbbX's vibroswords do some damage once they were remembered to turn on. Great reports so far.

Learned something today about ion tokens. I didn’t know they interaction with shields that way. I’m also new. Also a lot of surge tokens being handed out might have to change up my CIS army
@graysquadrongaming8670 Sorry, it's not all about cost. With the extra black and white the Sniper is 2r1b1w pierce 1 with an Aim, sharpshooter 1... which is nuts. The sword guys are by no means bad but the math on the Sniper guys is infinitely better. If you're gonna take a naked squad of them then ya, you may as well take the sword, but then you're really not using the units to their full potential, especially in the BF. I think if you do take the sword guys you should be using a surge to make them move speed 3 and get in that back line asap. There was way too many wasted aim shots as 8 white, surge to hit generally is getting 3 hits, and an Aim might give you one more, if you're lucky.
Great to see B3 use b2s and b1s with those surge tokens on the side to take care of some bucket heads. Idk if ion did much, but I like the 11 acts at least
With that battle force, who needs purge troopers when you have surge troopers? They could have used a bit more "bobber bobber" to push back the Imperials, but it's a very interesting list.

Bbbob did really well considering the onslaught that Blizzard force beings, so much Ion really seemed to keep the Droids down definitely helped considering it wasn't exactly your standard Blizzard force, it was still very effective though.
So its always better to have ion guns or grenades in case there are heavy vehicles, or shielded ennemies. And what is the best way to get surge tokens for your troops? Can Bobb (the one with 3b's) answer?
The ironic thing is I normally don’t roll surges. So making them free action effects is the best thing ever for me, they can’t fail to produce something.

Most lists will want 4-6 Impact across their units to deal with Armor you might run into, and most Impact weapons will be good against everything else so you won’t be overpaying for them. CIS have the Persuader tank and Spider droids with ion cannons, but unless you know your play group runs a lot of vehicles, going too heavy on them can leave you short on trooper units.

Sadly, the Sniper Shield droids are just far better in this BF.

Always spend minimum 1 shield on Droideka. If they never get shot again that round you get it back.
