I've always thought Yukiko Horiguchi's work on the series is some of the best out there. Her designs have a malleable quality that lends them really well to the expressive animation K-On's known for. One thing the staff at KyoAni gets is the meaning of adaptation. Yamada said this about the changes they made to Koe no Katachi: "If you use the same phrasing in the movie, and just copy over it frame-by-frame, then you have nothing but an ordinary digest of what happens in the manga. If you do that, then it’s useless to make it into a film."
They REALLY care about making a good final product every single time they start a project. This is why they released a masterpiece like Violet Evergarden this year while other big names in the industry were releasing train wreckers cough cough DARLIFRA cough cough.

+Matt S must've been the late bloomers. People who have been in the fandom before 2010s wouldn't write off K-On! easily unless they're never comfortable enough with the SoL genre. Even those disturbed by SoL should at least give 1 episode a look.

This is why I love KyoAni. The attention to detail they put into their works, the art, everything looks like they're made by the people who really love what they're doing. That's a really heartwarming feeling you rarely get from other animation studios.
Yeah! There's another detail of seeing charaters before they are introduced. You see Ritsu and Mio outside a (i think) bakery when Yuii is running to school. You also see Mugi at a train station where Yuii is also running by.

13:32 - if you listen closely, you can hear a little bit of emotion in Digi's voice even as he speaks about the emotional ending. Honestly, I don't blame him. K-On makes me cry too.
Damn, I knew the manga was less dense, but I didn't realize just how much love they put into the adaptation. Yamada and her team really are amazing. Tamako Market was also great, and Koe no Katachi looks fantastic too, but I hope she gets the chance to direct another TV adaptation again soon.

K-ON! is the kind of anime cultured, seasoned, anime veterans can enjoy. It's no surprise then, that newbies, normies, and weeaboos don't like this series as much. Edit: Coming back to this comment after 3 years, I cringed in embarrassment. I still stand by the opinion that people who know what they're talking about are likely to enjoy this series, but I disagree with my horrible choice of wording. It's a good thing I didn't reply to the replies back then... It may be worth noting this wasn't an attempt at "gatekeeping" though. I want more people to enjoy this show.
Video gushing about K-On is filled with K-On fans. That's not a surprise. It's gotten better over the years, but for a time people considered K-On the worst kind of anime. Most of the criticisms just boiled down to the it has no plot argument iirc.
Well, there wouldn't particularly be any reason to assume that the video would be "gushing" about K-On without clicking on it or knowing that it's Digi's favorite anime. You would know that the author of the video thinks it's a great adaptation from the complete ass manga, but that doesn't automatically mean it's gonna be swarming with fans looking for opinion validation.
It is crazy to see how an adaption of something so mediocre....can become so stellar and even a masterpiece. Great writing Digi and editing The Davoo as always.
When "Is the order a rabbit?" aired for the first time, I watched the first episode and found myself got bored by it. A friend asked me about the stuff Friend: "I see. So you don't like Moe slice of life anime, huh" Me: "I dunno. This feels boring to me." F: "Wait, you watched K-On!, right? That's also moe slice of life anime." M: "I did. And I love K-On! so very much." F: "Then, why don't you like this?" M: *shrug* "Not sure." And this video answer my question. Personality. K-On always has a special place for me. It is the show that made me feel interested to try many kind of anime. Before K-On, I only watched popular action stuff. Somehow, I stumbled upon K-On while it's still airing and fell in love with it. Very hard. The next season I probably watched 5-10 shows at the start of the season for the sake of finding hidden gem (for me) like K-On.
15:57 - THANK YOU!!! I have had this exact same mindset about adaptions for quite a white now, and ever since, have gradually lost my ability to understand why so many people want to argue that an adaption needs to stay as close to the original material as humanly possible. You're changing the medium through which the work is being presented, and there are dozens of storytelling techniques that simply can't make that kind of transition. There are things you can do in writing that someone would never be able to properly express in a visual medium, and vis versa. I can understand wanting to see your favorite book's world and characters come to life on the big screen, but I have almost completely lost sense for why you would just want the *exact same product* in a different format rather than as something fresh and exciting that still embodies the same things that you loved about the original.
I mean, if you want to understand the opposite view, I can explain why I like adaptations to be faithful. In the case of most anime adaptations I've seen, for instance, the opposite of K-On! happens. They adapt some/lots of it faithfully and then they make up their own fanfiction for the rest of it(Fullmetal Alchemist, Welcome to the NHK), they skip over large parts of the shows they adapt(Kids on the Slope, Genshiken, Berserk) or they add tons of filler(One Piece, Naruto). There's also no guarantee that the animation is any good, so manga like Fairy Tail have amazing art while the anime looks quite bad in comparison(That's also the case for say, One Piece). K-On! is a rare case because it's a dull, shallow manga with relatively little material and detail that an amazing technical studio full of great animators filled out into a whole show. It's only gonna work when the animators and writers involved are even more competent than the original author, and dedicated to improving it. It's not _impossible_(Nomu VS All Might, the best scene in all of My Hero Academia, was almost entirely the anime studio being great), but it's not normal. I watch a lot more anime than I read manga because it's something you can do with friends, but there are very few shows I also read the manga of and liked the anime _better_ than the manga afterwards.
I feel that part of what makes K-ON so special is that it seems to be written from a female perspective There is a tiny bit of fanservice, but there is not really a male gaze, it never takes a step back to treat its characters like eye candy, K-ON actually respects its character's and their world and they feel incredibly human and relatable to me idk maybe thats just me
another interesting aspect here is that all the instruments they play on, drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, are real models that exist and can legitimately be purchased in the real world. i just thought i would note that as a musician myself
Mushi-Shi is an incredible example of your adaptation philosophy. The standalone chapters were pretty great as manga, and the anime is shot-for shot the same thing. But they make it look and sound BEAUTIFUL by animating the mushi creatures, incredibly elaborate background art, plus exploring unique music scores and color palettes for every single episode. So the manga had the story already, but I truly believe the anime was a great addition because of how it expanded on the MOOD and ATMOSPHERE, which could not be portrayed on silent, black-and-white, pace-sensitive manga panels.
It's KyoAni magic. Even a boring Detective Light Novel Hyouka became entertaining when KyoAni decided to adapt it into anime. KyoAni is really good at making the world in their anime feel alive. And the music for their animes are always awesome.
Davoo, Capital K --> Hyphen --> Capital O --> Lowercase n --> 1 exclamation point. That is the correct way to spell K-On! Please, its been bugging me for years.
This just confirms my way of thinking about K-On! I love it because it didn't wanted to stand out as "revolutionary" or "Ground-breaking" anime. It was just a niche anime adaptation with a lot of hard work and genuine effort put into it. And i will always love it and respect it for that.
I consume light novels, manga and anime… and i have ti agree with you… just love it when they start improving the story and just like k-on it became a classic… i mean its like a trope now for those who say “but in the manga” bs… dont get me wrong there are really vad adaptations; however, theres also shows that has been adapted well…
I literally wrote an entire essay gushing about Natsume yuujinchou, but realized that I had completely forgotten why I was writing that essay, then I forgot what video I had been watching, so here is a fragment of what I originally wrote that is relevant to the video... (I really like Natsume Yuujinchou and i think this sort of displays that fact in a very open and intense way) The manga of Natsume Yuujinchou has a very specific aesthetic. It's gentle, wispy, almost dream-like in structure, with a lot of it's narrative told through flashbacks of Natsume's childhood, memories featuring his grandmother, or dreams that deal with Natsume's fears and emotions. The anime, somehow, manages to maintain all of this storytelling through a very close and accurate adaptation. Both Brain's Base and Studio Shuka manage to create episodes that are nearly 1 for 1 from their source material without making the show seem slow paced, or like theyre clawing for more story. I really think it's one of the best adaptations of a Manga to an Anime, with the only really huge, noticeable changes being Natsume's hair and eye color (which are only seen on the manga covers or extra art anyways), and the decrease of Natsume's salt level. It's a tight adaptation, but it still maintains the same feeling that the manga presents. Also, I really love how NatsuYuu does the Monster of the Week thing really well, with each story fairly self contained, and each episode a complete narrative arc that rewards the viewer at the end by having no episodes that seem out of place, or that the show would be better without. It's a really good show please watch it there are 5 seasons out with a 6th one coming in April. The first 4 seasons were created by Brain's Base, and the 5th and 6th seasons made by Studio Shuka. The only thing that changes over the course of the seasons is animation quality. Season 2 compared to season 1 is so much prettier in animation, and season 5, after the 5 year hiatus, is absolutely gorgeous in a super subtly and gentle way, with scenes that aren't necessarily breathtaking, but very relaxing and lovely. Anyways, i love it go watch it...
It´s one of the few slice of life type of anime / manga where things actually happen and people don´t spend to much time on eating cake , loved the anime maybe i´ll give the manga a chance thanks
I was one of those who right at moment K-ON! aired said: "that moe crap is garbage blahblah", only to a couple years later, fall into temptation an realize how wrong i was
Depends on how you go into it. If you go into expecting moe trash, you'll be pleasantly surprised. But if you go into with over expectations, it could be a turn off. My advice, it having a blank slate. Minimum expectations to be fair to the show. You'll find it so much better to just see it for what it is and the meaning and symbolism it conveys.
I made a Hulu account and watched the first season of k-on because of you. And I fucking loved it. I'm going to start S2 soon, then the movies/shorts. I've already bought a figure too. Thanks for opening my eyes to such a great show, digi.
A proper Berserk adaptation is possible. We have the technology. The problem is that a sub par studio currently has the rights and straight up refuses to put actual effort into it.
@@TasX Oh please Shinkai in general is dog shit in shot composition and writing. The facing is awful in all of his movies. After the movie end I am just confused where did the time go and was that fucking it?
+Yorha I mean in charge of directing the graphics, not story. Since the manga is heavily based on its art, I think you need someone good at art to carry out well
If berserk got a CGI adaption (since standard animation with the same quality AS the manga would take ages) by Studio Spotlight (they did Beastars and Land Of The Lustrous) it would be legendary as they have fantastic CGI anime
[stupid rant about how a moe show can even be considered a masterpiece, continued a by phrase insulting the youtuber's taste and how he can not be taken seriously because of liking moe, finishing with writing some bullshit about how only dark and deep shows can be considered good and oh, yes, old anime was better]

I didn't know all this stuff about the manga, and it makes me appreciate one of my favorite shows even more. K-On is amazing, and these adaptations and additions really were some of the best parts of the show. I really appreciate how they made a show about a bunch of girls and made it not really fan-servicey, and I'm glad the director and writer took it that direction despite what the manga contains.
I think that us animators often try out best to achieve the energy that imitates life in our work, but some manga artists do kill it and are very good at doing these things as well. you have artists like One who are great at writing and have crude but fun drawings, it depends on the artists, their execution, and sensibilities.
Idc what anybody says nor how late I am but I just gotta say K-on was the only form of media so far that genuinely hit me in the feels when it all wrapped up.
Damn it. I just watched the entire series again last month... Now you're making me want to see them again. I can now see scratches on my discs from all the use.
This video perfectly sums up why Kyoto Animation is by far my favourite animation studio. They just have so much attention detail; from the eyes, to the backgrounds, to the casting. For instance: in the first episode, you can see the entire main cast in the first minute in the background. If you were to watch it for the first time, you would never notice, but it's as if they new it was so good they knew people would watch it multiple times. Not only this, but when they add things to the anime that weren't present in the manga it's almost always better. Sorry if I'm going off, I took adderall before I wrote this comment.
Jesus I didn't even know k-on had source material, I thought it was anime original It's astonishing that such a simple generic yonkoma with barely any substance at all can be turned into something bursting at the seems with character, overflowing with emotion and personality, one beautiful scene lovingly crafted after the other with a cast of unforgettable characters in an unforgettable world, KyoAni can really just touch anything and make it pure gold
the way you say k-on is tripping me out dude. am i the only one that pronounces it kay own ?? also this video makes me want to re-watch k-on because i always just thought i liked it so much because it was cute and funny. but now as an adult i realize the reason why i loved it so much because when it aired i was a freshman in hs too and i related to yui and ritsu so much and seeing a strong bond between friends was something that i always wanted. i cant believe that was almost 8 years ago
In many of the K-On! episodes, the characters themselves pronounced "K-On" like Digibro is pronouncing it in this video. The romaji spelling in some episodes and the subtitles would be "keion" when the characters were talking exactly about the club (not about the creative anime title).
I finally gave K-On! another try after years of seeing the first 4 episodes and not liking them. I still thought it was super fucking boring and dropped it at the exact same spot. Video was cool, though, I can see how the anime is definitely better than the manga.
heard the same deal for Fafner season 1 back in the day, "Past episode 16 yo!" that's... like past the halfway point of a &^%$'n 24/26 episode series! LOL you need a better argument bro.
K on is about moe characters it is a masterpiece because all "moe" were on point and there were nth like KON before itself I agree it can be bored, but to ppl who appreciate these characters, it's really interesting
While I fell off K-On! at the start of season 2 iirc (the intro of Azusa?), I had an absolute blast digesting this video! Your dissection of why its adaptation is so well done was, simply put, excellent, in-depth, and enthralling. These are the kind of videos I live for as an animation junkie.
THANK YOU!!!! K-On! is my favorite anime too! But so many people think it's only a crappy anime about "cute girls doing cute things". ...Well... it technically is... but it does it JUST right. It really touches my heart! It reminds me of all the silly and sweet situations I've experienced with my own friends throughout my life. It shows me how even the smallest and simplest moments in life are just enough to keep me enjoying it and want to make the most of it. I watched episodes once in a while when I wanted to feel at peace with difficult situations in my life. I'm so going to subscribe to you now! Also, I watched this anime before I even knew what "moe" and "cute girls doing cute things" was. XD In fact, I can say this is the first anime I've ever completely finished watching. Others weren't engaging enough I guess.
I haven't watched K-ON and probably never will, but I appreciate videos like this and by UTS that hold the work in an elevated perspective with ample examples of its merits.
Found about The Wicker Man through Agalloch's The White EP. I love the band, love the EP, and love the movie as well. Summer Isle reprise is the most incredible non-classical piano piece I've ever heard.
Diabeetus, the PUNK BITCH MOTHER FUCKER thing was more directed at the fact that the individual in question was mocking him behind his back, so far as I can tell.
I haven't watched either past what I've seen in different people's reviews and I don't care about Kyoto Animation, and yet somehow, I just know that that video would fail to prove its point. At best, it's an Armond White situation: Ornery contrarianism couched in verbosity.
Honestly you could say that SAO has faster pacing than K-On. You could also argue that it has better worldbuidling and a more fulfilling romance. You would have to ignore everything that's clearly bad about SAO, but there are some ways you could construct an argument.
Some people would probably tell you to skip most of K-on. It really annoys me when people recommend skipping "filler", and "filler" is defined as anything that's different from the manga. An anime should be judged on its own merits, not how similar it is to the manga.
I loved K-on. Brilliant anime that will forever hold a special place in my heart. that being said I felt the need to comment on Digibro's Disdainful talk of the "dress up" scenes where he says it seems the whole point of them was to show the girls in different "Fetish outfits" It sounded to me as if he was bashing sexualized content in anime/manga JUST because it is sexual and for no other reason. calling it the "worst parts" of the anime but giving no real reasons WHY. I'll never understand the mindset that sexual things are inherently worse than non sexual things, or that including it is somehow automatically a bad thing. I personally find that sprinkling some good quality sexiness into pretty much anything makes it better. but that's just me.
It depends how it's introduced. A sex scene can be good, if the scene makes sense in the story. However it's easy to find a lot of anime with fan-service scenes coming out of nowhere (MC randomly falling on girl's boobs is a good example) while it's rare to see some good fan-service scene. That's why most people directly hate those scenes.
so... the fan service molested them when they were a toddler? or shat in their cereal? or killed their dog? I'm having a hard time imagining a "Bad experience" that would scar someone so bad as to make them change their view to demonizing all sexual things in anime. I think it's more likely they had this predisposition to begin with before any experiences they may or may not have had. Sorry if i seem to be taking this too seriously but its a topic I've wondered about for a long time and I'm honestly very curious where the animosity comes from. I assume it comes from puritanical ideas stemming from the religious roots of western cultures. but I'm willing to accept I might be wrong.
+Batmanic Shooter +Wyatt Walsh I think what you're saying is that Fan service when done wrong can seem like pandering. which is undesirable to a lot of people. I can understand this way of seeing things. And I agree, it can seem like lazy design. however I think pandering is also fine if you're the target demographic. if someone just loves all things Moe then an anime/manga being specifically designed to be Moe should be fine. but I guess in an anime that has a different target audience, shouldn't try to "attract a broader demographic" by shoehorning in Moe fanservice where it doesn't fit. The tough thing to figure out is what is the target demographic of anime? logically it would be Japanese people. so its understandable that westerners might not be able to understand whether the fanservice was pandering trash or calculated placement to appeal to the target demo. we are two separate cultures after all. and it's those differences that I think give rise to a lot of misunderstanding about the "proper place" of sexuality and fan service in anime.
I half expected you to say "I edited the first episode of K-On to be shot for shot the original Wickerman movie"
I would watch the fuck out of that.
Would be better if it were edited to fit the Wickerman remake.
"NOT THE BEES, MUGI-CHAN!! NOT THE BEEEEES!!"
Not the eyebrows, NOT THE EYEBROWS!
That would be some God-tier editing skill.
Now I really want "K-On! but it's edited to be a shot by shot remake of The Wicker Man".

well the shitier the manga is the better anime will be, i suppose.
K-on helped me so much during my depression moments
When "Is the order a rabbit?" aired for the first time, I watched the first episode and found myself got bored by it. A friend asked me about the stuff
Friend: "I see. So you don't like Moe slice of life anime, huh"
Me: "I dunno. This feels boring to me."
F: "Wait, you watched K-On!, right? That's also moe slice of life anime."
M: "I did. And I love K-On! so very much."
F: "Then, why don't you like this?"
M: *shrug* "Not sure."
And this video answer my question.
On 8:42 u can see mio taking picture of ritsu in the background
"Mugi is super gay and rich" - you, sir, have just earned yourself a new subscriber.
I feel that part of what makes K-ON so special is that it seems to be written from a female perspective
There is a tiny bit of fanservice, but there is not really a male gaze, it never takes a step back to treat its characters like eye candy, K-ON actually respects its character's and their world and they feel incredibly human and relatable to me
idk maybe thats just me
another interesting aspect here is that all the instruments they play on, drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, are real models that exist and can legitimately be purchased in the real world. i just thought i would note that as a musician myself
That's really cool!
I read the manga and then watched the anime when I was like 10 I'm 18 now. And I LOVE K-ON
I miss K- On! :
Thank you man! K-On! definitely deserves this much recognition, especially from a lad like yourself.
"Whereas the anime is considered, by anyone that knows what they're talking about, a masterpiece" - Digi, 2017
Sounds accurate.
That statement is correct.
It's KyoAni magic. Even a boring Detective Light Novel Hyouka became entertaining when KyoAni decided to adapt it into anime. KyoAni is really good at making the world in their anime feel alive. And the music for their animes are always awesome.
Davoo, Capital K --> Hyphen --> Capital O --> Lowercase n --> 1 exclamation point.
That is the correct way to spell K-On! Please, its been bugging me for years.
^
Second season technically has two exclamation points tho
CKAY_AWN?!!
KOn1!-?
So... !kN-o, right?
This just confirms my way of thinking about K-On!
I love it because it didn't wanted to stand out as "revolutionary" or "Ground-breaking" anime. It was just a niche anime adaptation with a lot of hard work and genuine effort put into it. And i will always love it and respect it for that.
I consume light novels, manga and anime… and i have ti agree with you… just love it when they start improving the story and just like k-on it became a classic… i mean its like a trope now for those who say “but in the manga” bs… dont get me wrong there are really vad adaptations; however, theres also shows that has been adapted well…
Fine Digi, I'll watch it. I think you've finally sold me on watching this.
I literally wrote an entire essay gushing about Natsume yuujinchou, but realized that I had completely forgotten why I was writing that essay, then I forgot what video I had been watching, so here is a fragment of what I originally wrote that is relevant to the video... (I really like Natsume Yuujinchou and i think this sort of displays that fact in a very open and intense way)
The manga of Natsume Yuujinchou has a very specific aesthetic.
This is one of my favorite videos you've done and does a great job showing why K-On! (the anime) is so great.
I miss K-On... I should rewatch it sometime soon...
I was one of those who right at moment K-ON! aired said: "that moe crap is garbage blahblah", only to a couple years later, fall into temptation an realize how wrong i was
This sounds like a religious conversion
Maybe I should watch it
I think K-On started moe
Huh, maybe i should watch K-On
K-On is one of the most popular slice of life anime for good reason. Go for it, dude
you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't!
If you're into moe and slice of life shows, you'll probably like it a lot. If not though it's gonna be the most boring shit you've ever seen
Kongou, I love Slice of Life and Moe anime, but I think K-On is alright.
It's shame that CGI animation could work for Anime if they did it like with American TV shows. Hell, Transformers Prime was CGi animated in Japan.
Ugh, if we can get Shinkai to make an anime adaptation, it would be the best. That’s gonna be tough tho
@@TasX Oh please Shinkai in general is dog shit in shot composition and writing. The facing is awful in all of his movies. After the movie end I am just confused where did the time go and was that fucking it?
+Yorha I mean in charge of directing the graphics, not story. Since the manga is heavily based on its art, I think you need someone good at art to carry out well
If berserk got a CGI adaption (since standard animation with the same quality AS the manga would take ages) by Studio Spotlight (they did Beastars and Land Of The Lustrous) it would be legendary as they have fantastic CGI anime
great video, digimon
Pokemon made a better one.
[stupid rant about how a moe show can even be considered a masterpiece, continued a by phrase insulting the youtuber's taste and how he can not be taken seriously because of liking moe, finishing with writing some bullshit about how only dark and deep shows can be considered good and oh, yes, old anime was better]
*generic comment defending this "masterpiece" because cute girls > intressting plot "
[generic comment further shitting on digi to get some likes by digi haters]

[triggered reply Oh wait, UnusualReaper has got that covered.
What the [expletive] did you just [expletive] say about Digi, you [pejorative epithet]? I’ll have you know that Digi has done the most for this industry, he's been involved in numerous statistical analysis of anime trends, and has been confirmed as the reason SAO is dead. He is trained in shot composition and he's the top script doctor in the entire RUclips land. You are nothing to him but just another [pejorative] [derogatory epithet]. He could wipe you the [expletive] out with lyrical prose the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my [expletive] words. You think you can get away with saying that [feces] about Digi over the Internet? Think again, [pejorative epithet]. As we speak now, I am contacting a secret network of hackers across the USA, who coincidentally also love K-On and only disagree about who is best girl, and your IP is being back-traced right now. So you better prepare for a(n) [expletive] storm, [epithet]. A storm that wipes out the [pejorative] [size adjective] thing you call your life. You’re [expletive] dead (figuratively), kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you (figuratively) in over seven-hundred (700) ways, but that’s only with my dick beaters. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of grown men who watch children's shows in their mother's basements, and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your [pejorative] [anatomical reference to posterior] off the face of the continent, you [derogatory epithet]. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your [expletive] tongue. But you dun goofed, and now you’re going to pay the price, you [deity] condemned [epithet]. I will [excrete fecal matter[ furiously all over you and you will drown in it. *Naruto voice* Believe it!
well. time to rewatch k-on!
I think that us animators often try out best to achieve the energy that imitates life in our work, but some manga artists do kill it and are very good at doing these things as well. you have artists like One who are great at writing and have crude but fun drawings, it depends on the artists, their execution, and sensibilities.
already watched this, just came by to drop a like!
Idc what anybody says nor how late I am but I just gotta say K-on was the only form of media so far that genuinely hit me in the feels when it all wrapped up.
season 3 when
Damn it. I just watched the entire series again last month... Now you're making me want to see them again. I can now see scratches on my discs from all the use.
Mugi best girl hands down...
Nick Baker no
ew275x you my friend are a genius
ew275x "She's the objectively superior girl to marry." Did you forget that Mio exists?
mugi is objectively the sweetest girl of the bunch
They're all great, and I can see why you'd like Mugi the best but Mio and Azu-nyan are my favorites c:
This video perfectly sums up why Kyoto Animation is by far my favourite animation studio. They just have so much attention detail; from the eyes, to the backgrounds, to the casting. For instance: in the first episode, you can see the entire main cast in the first minute in the background. If you were to watch it for the first time, you would never notice, but it's as if they new it was so good they knew people would watch it multiple times. Not only this, but when they add things to the anime that weren't present in the manga it's almost always better. Sorry if I'm going off, I took adderall before I wrote this comment.
Basically it's amazing.
K-on is what got me more into SoL (Slice of life) and I don’t regret it 1 bit
"Super Gay and rich"
That would sound AWESOME on a business card!
Jesus I didn't even know k-on had source material, I thought it was anime original
It's astonishing that such a simple generic yonkoma with barely any substance at all can be turned into something bursting at the seems with character, overflowing with emotion and personality, one beautiful scene lovingly crafted after the other with a cast of unforgettable characters in an unforgettable world, KyoAni can really just touch anything and make it pure gold
I sent this to my friend who told me K-ON was boring after watching literally 2 minutes of it
***** yeah he really has no taste. He deadass told me "What kind of black person watches an anime that doesn't have action in it?"
Honestly, if anything can bore you in 2 minutes you're an attention defecit pleb.
Lol 2 minutes
congradulations digi, after years of everyone trying to get me to do so, you finally convinced me to watch K-on
guess it's time for a rewatch
Another one? Do you know which count I am on? Well... Me neither.
The "odd yellow circles" are AOE markers for kids not to stand in so a door swinging open doesn't take you out.
I disagree with one thing. That the manga sucks. The anime is far superior, but I love the manga as well. It’s funny and sweet
I love this show already but hey it's actually nice to know this kind of things, it makes me appreciate it a lot more, thx.
the way you say k-on is tripping me out dude. am i the only one that pronounces it kay own ?? also this video makes me want to re-watch k-on because i always just thought i liked it so much because it was cute and funny. but now as an adult i realize the reason why i loved it so much because when it aired i was a freshman in hs too and i related to yui and ritsu so much and seeing a strong bond between friends was something that i always wanted. i cant believe that was almost 8 years ago
In many of the K-On! episodes, the characters themselves pronounced "K-On" like Digibro is pronouncing it in this video. The romaji spelling in some episodes and the subtitles would be "keion" when the characters were talking exactly about the club (not about the creative anime title).
glad this made it on! thanks for the vid Digi! you're the reason I watched K-on and I love it
6:01 That clearly open hi-hat will forever bother me
Honestly really happy to see a K-ON video in 2017. I didnt think many would be interested anymore
Urggg fine ill watch k-on ^_^
Of all your videos about K-on this is the one that made me think maybe i should watch this show.
Gotta say there are hundred people working on the anime, when the manga is like one guy. So they did have a lot of potential to improve the original
Even the K-on! dub is fucking amazing just aaaagh I love K-on! so much fuck man
I finally gave K-On! another try after years of seeing the first 4 episodes and not liking them. I still thought it was super fucking boring and dropped it at the exact same spot. Video was cool, though, I can see how the anime is definitely better than the manga.
Pythagoras Mom It's not for everyone I guess.
heard the same deal for Fafner season 1 back in the day, "Past episode 16 yo!"
that's... like past the halfway point of a &^%$'n 24/26 episode series! LOL you need a better argument bro.
It gets good by episode 783 TRUST ME!
Imo, the shows gets better once Azura joins the club, which is somewhere near the end of the anime.
K on is about moe characters
it is a masterpiece because all "moe" were on point
and there were nth like KON before itself
I agree it can be bored, but to ppl who appreciate these characters, it's really interesting
K-ON! Just won Anime of the Decade on Anitrendz.
Also the main reason the manga sucks: Mugi doesn't have pickled radish eyebrows
I've fully grasped the appeal of K-On, probably because the show just isn't for me.
I'm happy you've put this on RUclips now! I couldn't watch it on that other website because the video would glitch out.
K-on gave me a leg fetish
I haven't watched K-ON and probably never will, but I appreciate videos like this and by UTS that hold the work in an elevated perspective with ample examples of its merits.
Watch it and you will be converted.
When you showed the berserk scene I physically cringed, why would you do that to me?
OK OK Digibro, I will rewatch K-On already!
digi how did the whole copyright thing work?
Found about The Wicker Man through Agalloch's The White EP. I love the band, love the EP, and love the movie as well. Summer Isle reprise is the most incredible non-classical piano piece I've ever heard.
but the real question is the Berserk 2016 anime better than the manga?
Of course...
The fans were finally able to feel something equivalent to the full horror of the eclipse.
best comment I saw all day....
you convinced me. i will now watch this
Somebody should make a video titled 'Why K-On is Worse Than SAO'
We all know it would be great.
This has become an engineering challenge now.
ahahaha.. it's not a joke?
I watched the show around the time this vid came out after two years and watching more than watching 400+ shows its still by far my favorite show
Some people would probably tell you to skip most of K-on. It really annoys me when people recommend skipping "filler", and "filler" is defined as anything that's different from the manga. An anime should be judged on its own merits, not how similar it is to the manga.
Digi, this video is so good that it actually made K-on look like it would be worth watching.
Mugi totally into yuri would've made the series better
Dorohedoro You can watch yuru yuri, but it's not better
Mugi's still pretty gay, she's just much more subtle about it in the anime.
I'm willing to watch any Digi video about the greatness of K-On a second time
Masterpiece*
masterpiece of shit
@@TheKnightBlade4 fuck off
Welp, Time to rewatch it and then finally finish Season 2!
Animekirk
Let's just say a lot of people had bad experiences with unnecessary fanservice.
Fanservice is just like action or comedy. It can be great and it can be bad.
You know what those first seconds reminded me of?
THE
