Chill Wills (1902-1978) did a small acting role as the Janitor, in this Hallmark TV movie. He died on December 15th, a few days before Stubby Pringle's Christmas was aired, on December17th, 1978.
Wonderful to find this on You Tube! I have a DVD made from a VHS tape from a station in Hawaii during the original broadcast. It is especially meaningful to me as the cabin exterior scenes of the woman chopping wood are actually the cabin in Alice, Colorado that my great grandparents built in the 1880's, and is still standing... although remodeled a bit over the years. And the character of 'Mrs. Harper' is based on my great grandmother, and is in her spitting image: Emmarilla Josephine Frisbie Harper. She was the post mistress of Alice after my great grandfather died, from 1900 until 1913, and was a legend in her time.... as she had once been engaged to marry Buffalo Bill Cody prior to meeting my great grandfather. Coincidentally, I met Beau Bridges in 1977 in Los Angeles about the time the filming had wrapped on this TV movie.
I read the summary on RUclips. I'm 60 years old and never seen the film until tonight. I collect holiday films for my family and this will be a wonderful new addition to the collection. God bless you for saving this film. It restores my faith in the human soul a little bit to know a couple of people worked so hard to save it and make it available to everyone.
This coming Christmas will be difficult for many families. Even if you have next to nothing, share Christmas joy. This precious movie tells you how to...Blessings to all, and thanks to all of truly good will.
This is such a gem. We watched this as a family that Christmas in 1978 and it has to be one of my favorite family/Christmas memories. My parents are long passed now, but I was able to locate a copy after Mom died. Was able to watch it with Dad his last Christmas. Thank you for sharing this treasure.
I am 7 minutes in and wondering why people can not talk to each other like this any more. It is so blessed refreshing to hear it again. Now ain't that a pretty thought "the smell of roses on a summer day"?
I so wish at the end of the movie that they showed the look on the children's faces when they saw the Christmas tree all decorated and the presents beside it. Christmas is soon upon us once again. Happy Holidays everyone. May all your Christmas's be Merry and Bright! 🎄
What a score to find...I found this by way of the book Shane by Jack Schaefer ..was looking at other books he wrote and found pringle..then was fascinated when I found out it hadn't been aired on tv but once maybe twice...I am thoroughly enjoying this ..I'm 34 years old curious if anyone my age or younger cares about these old gems like I do.. just curious speak up if your under 34 I feel like I'm alone looking into these thing my gf doesn't get the charm of these older gems before our time
One of the best movies ever made! Great actors, the women are all so beautiful and fit the parts played so perfectly. I watch this movie at least 6 times every Christmas! Strother Martin is one of the greatest actors ever , and all of the others are so well known. Beau Bridges is the real stubby Pringles.
I definitely saw this movie in 1984. My mother passed away that year, and this movie had a big emotional impact on me at Christmas when I saw it. I was able to get a VHS copy from someone through the mail and have watched it every year. I never get tired of it!
This is wonderful. I have been waiting 30+ years to see this movie again. Sometime in the early 80's it was broadcast on a random channel in the Bay area and I watched it with my husband and 4 little ones. (Those little ones are now all in their 30's with little ones of their own.) You made my day!!
Stubby Pringles Christmas warms the heart more as I watch it over and over every year. Shows us how some people do wonderful things for people but never talk about it. We can be so wrong judging someone we don't even know.
What a precious little gem! And love everyone's touching memories too. Never saw this but just so glad to have found it now. Thank you & Merry Christmas!
First time to watch this lovely gem of a film --- But Stubby Pringle's Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas short story's ... Wherever you are, alone or in the company of those you love, may you be blessed and have a wonderful Christmas.........
This movie only aired once in 1978, and was then put away for decades. Thanks to the efforts of two men who tried for years to have it re-aired and then digitally remastered it is now free on RUclips for all to see. It’s great to see Beau Bridges, Julie Harris, and Strother Martin in such a touching film.
Simple and sublime & Chill Wiils last performance (as the janitor cleaning up after the party). Thanks for this, it's one of those that you know you never forget.
I was told about the movie last night and watched it here. This was the first gift of Christmas this year; a very precious story and a definite classic.
Watched this movie for the first time. Was thirteen when this first was released but never saw it. It is the best movie I have seen in a long time. The cast was excellent
this has become a tradition for me...watching this on RUclips during the season!!! Strother Martin's perfomance is classic!!!! this is so dang good!!!!
This is one of our favorite movies to watch at Christmas. Luckily, I taped it years ago and was able to move it to DVD. I'm glad you posted it so everyone can see it.
Julie Harris and Kim Hunter were very beautiful! The pretty lady who sung the Christmas songs at the party, I would have married in a minute back in 1910!!
Nathan, thank you, thank you (!!) for uploading the video. For years I provided copies to others searching for it! Great that it's on RUclips! I think the copy you uploaded was made from a friend of mine, which he copied onto a Pioneer DVD machine. Anyway, thanks, again!
MICHAEL LOVERIDGE How do I get a copy of this warming, heart felt Christmas Movie? I'm I really a day late and a dollar short? I remember this movie from 1978. I was less than 1 month waiting to have my first baby watching this beautiful Christmas Movie!
While I really enjoyed it, I was rather disappointed at the ending... He should've gotten the girl... and his buddy should have married the widow in the cabin. Very touching though.
wait a minute! There wasn't no widow in the cabin? The one that he made a beautiful Christmas for, her husband was sick in bed! And his Boss's wife in the kitchen that was stuffing the turkey wasn't a widow, so I'm lost!!!!! I loved this wonderful Christmas movie, how can I get a copy of this movie?????
Is it me or has Beau Bridges been over shadowed by his dad and brother, both great actors in their own right? But dam Beau Bridges has been in some special movies. I even remember him in an episode of the Fugitive

Chill Wills died a few days before this was released.
Very sweet story
Old Santy Claus comes in many forms. Our Savior is behind them.
I guess Santa Claus is really inside us.
I Believe it was first featured on the Hallmark Hall of fame series in 1978
The old fellow at about 9 minutes in has such distinguished voice. I recall it from his being the Charleston Cheifs owner in the movie SLAPSHOT.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE 🎄🎅✝️🎁
Any other movie suggestions along this line?
Too bad the close caption is way off. I would love to share with my Mom
While I really enjoyed it, I was rather disappointed at the ending... He should've gotten the girl... and his buddy should have married the widow in the cabin. Very touching though.
@alison webster I hadn't thought about spoiling it... note taken... lesson learned.
@alison webster This one is on you. That is what happens when you take a chance and scroll down.
There is always next year to go to the dance!!!
He WILL get the girl! He just has to wait until next year!
