- Опубликовано: 3 сен 2013
- The mysterious owner of a costume shop rents a Santa Claus suit to three very different men: a math teacher trying to get the nerve to propose, a homeless restaurateur trying to hide from the mob, and a harried political speech writer visiting with his estranged wife and son. Their lives are inexorably changed by their experience of playing Santa Claus.
TO SEE THE TWIN TOWERS IN THE BEGINNING JUST BREAKS MY HEART!!!! WANT TO GO BACK TO THE SIMPLER TIMES!!!!
I'm not even from NY, but I get saddened too...it was what let every viewer know that it was filmed in that great city!!
Ahhh if only we could. Life was bliss until only about 12 years ago.
@@audreyfraley7415 12 years ago?! The towers went down in 2001!
Those weren't "simpler times", bub. You were most likely just too young and had no clue about the atrocities that have always surrounded the world. Grow up.
100% agree…
I'm 51 and didn't know this movie existed until 1999, when I saw it on ABC Family (now FreeForm) late one night in December. It caught my attention immediately and put me in the spirit, loved it since! Rest In Peace Fred Astaire and Bert Convy.
Just watched this film for the first time since I watched it in and around 1980.
Brought a tear to my eye, it’s a fantastic film which should be aired on TV now but always seems to get overlooked. Brought back fantastic memories has a child, three great stories into one.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Gives my wife and I tears as well...when the 2 Santa's skip (I think) down the street to their new lives, we know the movie's almost over. You want to go with them, and you also wonder how the new New Amsterdam fared.
I remember seeing this when it first aired on12/23/79. Hard to believe that it's been over 34 years, the memory is so vivid that it seems like only a short time ago.
A rare gem of a movie. I am amazed that I have never seen it till now. My dear late husband would have put this on our annual Christmas watch list. Thanks for sharing it.
It IS a good one...I remember watching it when it was first aired. Every year I look to see if it's been released on DVD. I have a "homemade" one we bought in 2010, fairly good picture.
THIS IS THE MOST UNDERRATED CHRISTMAS FILM OF ALL !! What I love about this movie is really everybody is likable even the goons really. Love Fred Astaire and all 3 plot lines. Highlights a truism of life that what EVERYONE really needs is understanding and validation and a sense of self worth. I watch this every Xmas eve morning No exceptions. The sound is good too.
One of the best Christmas films of all time.
Fred Astaire a true legend.
New York what a Wonderful City
Unfortunately Cuomo and De Blasio have ruined it.
In the early days of eBay, my wife bought me the VHS of this from America (we're in the UK), it seemed so exciting back then. Now, with no video player to hand,RUclips has come to our rescue. We just love this film and it's nice to see so many others feel the same way. Sad though isn't it, to think this world has long gone. Only 40 years, but it could be 400. It feels so innocent compared to now. Thanks for uploading...
One of my all-time favorite made-for-tv Christmas movies from back in the day 👍🏾 I was eight years old when this came on TV 😀
This showed me what true family is all about and the meaning of Christmas with our families when we forget about the love.
Watch it every year, since its been on RUclips, would love the world to be like this again, especially here in England
I fully agree and KISS is my favorite band!
Thank you very much for uploading this movie! I loved it! There aren't actors like the ones from the Golden Age of Hollywood anymore. It was a wonderful experience watching the movie!
This is a really endearing Christmas movie. It has a very special message.
i watch this every year,i wish they would put the classics back on TV, ah such fond memories.
Me too=every year
KRUGE67 TCM Turner Classic Movies shows many of the older movies.
Love the opening. Oldschool New York and lovely christmas music
I too remember this movie from past Christmases, and it was one of my moms favorites. I was telling a friend about this movie, and they told me it was here. So I had to find it, and sure enough, here it is for our holiday viewing. I am so looking forward to watching this around the holidays, and doing a little reminiscing.
Happy Holidays to All!
Great Movie! 12/26/2020 is the first I have heard of it! Watching it is making my holiday complete. Many thanks for posting! 🎄🎄🎄
This brings back so many happy memories for me. I just love this film
One of my very favorites. I watched it a few times on TV in the late 70's and then taped it one year. The quality was not very good, though. This is much better! I enjoyed it very much!
I missed this movie when it first came out and came in at the last moment when he came out of the shop and it changed back into an ally. I knew then I missed a real classic. For whatever reason it was never shown again but I never forgot the name of the movie. So glad I found it here! I only wish my mom were still around to watch it with me as she loved Fred Astair and all the Christmas classics. Thanks for putting this here!
You're welcome.
Yes, my mom would have loved this movie! 👵🤗👩🤗
I just love this movie . Fred Astaire is just great. I’m glad to have this special movie
Can't believe this hasn't been on TV for years.its brilliant and a proper Christmas film.remember when it first came out.why can't they release it on dvd
must be protected under some weird rights law... all the movies they show and this one hasn't been on in forever...its the best....
I was a little kid in the 70’s and I use to watch this every year with my Mom. Then one year they didn't show it, then the year after that and the year after that. I haven’t seen this since I was a little kid and I’m so happy to have found it now. I can’t wait to show this to Mamma the next time she’s here. Thank you for posting it!!!
JellicleKat.
Your welcome 😊!
My family, too. We absolutely LOVED good Christmas movies....and the late, great Dick Clark gave us so many GREAT Christmas/Holiday programs. People just don't seem to have that touch for doing that these days. But, thanks to CLASSIC MOVIE LOVER, we can see it again. Merry Christmas to all.
This is one of the Christmas films I remember watching yearly in the UK for many years. Haven't seen it since the eighties, but always remembered it. Lovely to watch it again.
I first saw this in 1979.It came at a time when I was starting to doubt the existence of Santa.I was 10 at the time.It help reinergize my belief.Fred Astare s involvement in this movie and Santa Claus is coming to town has left some wonderful memories.
I was 10 in 79 too. Always loved this film and watched whenever it was on.
I was 15 that year, and only recently re-watched this sweet movie. I guess it's appropriate that this was Fred Astaire's last movie.
@@docadams7099 Oh how sad that this movie was Fred Astair's last movie, how sad indeed, such a shame! 😢
So many great memories of Christmas in NYC. If you get the chance the holidays are magical. Window shopping, Radio City Music Hall, the Christmas 🎄. It can come but your heart is warmed by the holiday spirit.
First of all thanks so much to those responsible for posting the lovely Christmas film. I had to go searching for this due to it sadly rarely being shown on UK TV. A great script and cast and has a mixture of all the ingredients to make the ideal Christmas movie, its magic.
Today (3-17-23), is the first time that I seen this movie, I never knew that it existed!
Merry Christmas Everyone! ❄🎅❄🎄❄🎁❄☃❄🎉❄
OMG! I remember this movie! I've used to watch it when I was just a kid. I'll need to tell my kids about this. My son is a fan of Santa!
This is the type of movie I like to watch . Classic movies 🎀
Sentimental but with good values. 3 stars.
I used to love this movie as a child. Thanks for sharing.
The man in the Santa Claus suit is one of my favorite movie.
I rember this as a kid and wow what a ending.I watched with my grand mother. It was a very good movie even back then.Sometimes I would not be in a very christmas mood. But after seeing this it would start from some were inside me.And no matter how bad a day I had seeing this made me feel much better. Many thank yous for uploading this here.

I agree this is a magical Christmas Film if only everyday was like this the world would be a better place.
I watch this film every Christmas it's the best.
This film should be released on DVD it is such a classic Christmas Film with the GREAT FRED ASTAIRE.A must film for all to see.One of the best Christmas Films of all time.
I 💯 agree!!
I also agree!
Perhaps this movie is a little before my time. "The Christmas Story" remains my favorite Christmas movie of all time.
Naima Stewart I never understood that "before my time" thing. You can still watch it while you're alive so that makes it in your time. I watch and love many movies that were made before I was born. If humans only related to things that were current, there would be no museums, art galleries, libraries or classical music.
They don't make movies like this any more. Nice movie
Been looking for this film since it was last on British TV Christmas day 1985. Love it
One of the best holiday films made! R.I.P. Fred and Bert.
ULY YES IT IS
I saw this once on TV many years ago and have been looing for it ever since. It's a great Christmas feel good movie! Thanks for sharing
So many great actors! Thank you for sharing this!
Quite agree with everyone. What a wonderful meaningful xmas movie. My VCR broke down for my annual viewing of this on xmas eve. Thanks to the poster the day was saved. Absolutely love the whole cast in this.
Thank you! I have been looking for this for YEARS! It's a Christmas miracle!
This is my favourite Christmas movie great cast and the great Fred Astaire
I remember the trailer on NBC back in 79. I didn't see the movie until a few years later. The movie had some famous celebrities in the 70s and earlier times. Fred Astaire, John Byner, Burt Convy, Gary Burghoff aka Radar from MASH. Tara Buckman, and others. Three men rented Santa Claus suits from this old man from a costume shop. Each of these 3 men have their own story. Plus a surprise at the end of the movie. It's a classic. 😊
Love Fred Astaire! I haven't seen this since i was young....over 35 years ago! Miss those times so so much!
This is a very good movie!! Thank you for sharing it with us.
One of the great things about this movie is how it is a snapshot of New York City in the late 1970s.
Can't believe "Radar O'Riley" (Mash) is in this movie. Love it!! :-)
Just saw this for the first time. So hard to believe there was a Fred Astair movie that I never saw or even heard of. Very sweet movie made in the old style with no foul language. Loved it.
One of the best Christmas movies ever made and it's never shown on tv. 🤔
Oh the classics, how I love the classics!!!
I'm into these 70s NYC scenes
I had only seen a trailer while in astore shopping for a TV.
¡What a great Christmas movie!
i miss those grand old stores with thear great santa display . i never thought the toy store would go out of buisness.
I hear ya. I worked in the Glen Burnie Toys R Us, I was a Toys R Us kid for sure. I had the doll isle, loved it. Still have my Barbies!
Great stuff. They need to make a DVD or Blu Ray release of this classic
One of my favorite Christmas Movies
The last time I watched this was with my husband who died the following year. It’s practically impossible to buy due to scarcity hence too expensive a DVD. Thank you YOU TUBE for a wonderful film and tearful memories.I wish a Happy, healthy
new Year to all in 2024.See you next Christmas.🎄🧑🎄🧧xx
Great movie. Glad we got to see it to the end and not get cut off.
Great Movie it opens up with the picture of the Twin Towers, Which I miss seeing across the Manhattan Skyline, May they all RIP, From that Faitful Day etc.
The Twin Towers were ugly structures. I am not sorry they are gone but am sorry about the casualties though. Besides, NY is full of tall, ugly buildings anyway.
Used to watch this on TV all the time, thanks for uploading!
This is a great movie and can't understand why it's not on the TV roster of Christmas movies anymore.
GLAD YOU NICE FOLKS IN THE UK LOVE THIS FILM......I WAS A EIGHT YEAR OLD WHEN IT CAME OUT,....THAT WAS THE "OLD" NEW YORK.....MY TOWN!!! NOTHING LIKE HOLIDAYS HERE !!! GOD BLESS !!! SEE YA IN NYC !!!
I am very amazed at myself for having watched this movie up to the credits. I didn't think that it was going to be even a fair movie when I started watching it, but, to my surprise, this movie was really pretty good! 🤗
I got goosebumps when Fred Astair turned into Santa Claus and the costume store turned into a hardware store and it was snowing, then Santa took off in his sleigh, right up into the dark skies becoming a bright white star, I'am happy to give this movie "The Man In The Santa Claus Suit" a 9 out of 10!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOODNIGHT!! ❄🎅❄🎄❄🎁❄☃❄👼❄
The plot was such a joy to watch, thank you for sharing! 🤗
almost forgot about this 'classic': 8+/10
Thanks for uploading this. I used to watch this every year and was so glad I could finally see it again. I love those old xmas tv movies from the 70s and 80s.
What a beautiful and enduring tale. Thank you so much for sharing it....
I loved Bert Convy. He was a class act.
Really great movie. Good to see different uploads besides the same ones over and over. Thanks!!!
This is wonderful, thanks for posting from a Fred Astaire fan ❤️👍
I remember watching this on vhs all the time as a kid! Thank you so much for keeping this available so I can relive the memories.
Thankyou, I saw this as a teenager in 1980, and have so wanted to see it again! Just as awesome and Christmassy as I remember it, This has made my year!!!! :-D
I just watched this movie and I loved it so much! Thank-you so much for posting this! I loved every minute of it, Fred Astaire is so wonderful in this, I will be watching this again! Merry Christmas Everyone!
I remember this being on TV in the UK only once, and I believe it was renamed to The Christmas Spirit. I had only a faint memory of it and some scenes were imprinted in my memory slightly differently to the way they were actually played, but that's quite common.
The best Christmas movie ever. Full stop. Not been shown in the UK for years I really don't understand why it's such a lovely film. It is always the first thing I look for in the Christmas TV guide only to be gutted yet again it is not on. Love counting all the cameo roles that Fred Astaire does in it. I managed to get a copy in dvd from ebay. It is a family tradition that I watch this every year with my mum and now my kids watch it as well. Thank you so much for uploading it
I agree - I do the same, look through the various mags etc to try to find it. `Come on BBC how about listening to your viewers!
All the stories were good and warming for X-Mas. Tks!

What a happy surprise to find this movie here! I saw it the year it came out and had not run across it since. Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing this!! I LOVE this movie and have not been able to find it anywhere!! It is my all time favorite Christmas movie. I just watched the VHS copy that we copied to DVD and it is very poor quality and this is fantastic I have loved Bert Convy Thanks again for this share!
this is always my first Christmas movies of the year, thanks for this..
Thank you so much for sharing this! It is my all time favourite Christmas movie. I have a very poor quality VHS version - but this is much sharper! Watched it when it was first aired in UK around 78/79!
Always enjoyed watching this growing up.? R.I.P. Fred Astaire. For you are missed by all of your Fans.?
First saw this film way back when it first came out. I must've been 11. My mum and I loved it so much we taped it on to our first VHS. Glad we did as we never saw it on TV again and it became a festive ritual but I lost the tape and haven't seen it in years so thanks for sharing this it really brought back happy memories :)
Let's hear it for '68! 😉
An absolute classic.
I get chills whenever I see a movie that shows the WTC pre-9/11. Even 12 years later, I still can't believe that they are gone :(
Me too
THANK YOU! I've been looking for this forever!
so happy to finally find this... I haven't seen it in so many years.... thank you for posting....lost my mom in November so it's been a rough Christmas,,,, this made me so happy... love love love this movie!!!!!
11-6-2019 for my mom. She watched EVERY Christmas movie out there, but, we NEVER seen this one, this is the 1st time for me watching this movie! (3-17-23).
This gem aired on NBC on Dec. 23, 1979. It's a very special picture. All the cast members are terrific. It's Fred Astaire's last movie, and it features Gary Burghoff around the time he completed playing Radar on M*A*S*H. It's nice to see him playing a shy math teacher.
Since it's Christmas Eve, I just had to watch it again. Thanx so so much again, specterman2000, for sharing! Merry Christmas!
