    This was Tatums best year in his career.. he did everything that we Celtics fans have been begging for years. Making better decisions. In years past he would make a stupid TO with an awful pass to close games and it would drive us bonkers. He now makes the right read in the closing minutes and throughout the game, he knows how to make the extra pass and pass out of doubles which he didn’t do in the past. Hence why his assist numbers have gone up so much. He is also a much better finisher around the rim compared to years past and still an elite defender. He has struggled from the field at times in the playoffs but that happens. The reason the Celtics won is because we still played through him and he made the right reads and got us crucial buckets when it was needed. People who just casually hate are blind to how good JT is

    Only 15 seconds in and I just wanna say, Tatum at 26 has already had a Hall of Fame career. He’s done what most people would dream of having for an entire career while he’s not even entered his prime yet. 16 points in the 4th quarter of Game 6 against Phili when he was awful the first 3 quarters, keep in mind Boston was down 3-2 in that series. Following with a 51 pt Game 7 to close the series, most in a Game 7 in playoff history.
      Only has lost 2 Game 7’s in his career: 2018 against LeBron in the ECF which was his rookie year and 2023 to the Heat which he got injured within the first few minutes.
      Most points and rebounds by a player 27 or younger in league history
      One of 6 players to lead his team in Points, Rebounds, and Assists to a Championship throughout the playoffs. Jokic, LeBron, Duncan, Hakeem, and Bird are the others.
      Tatum is 5th among active players in 4th Quarter Points, in playoff games, only behind Curry 860 pts in 110 games, LeBron with 851 points in 108 games, Harden with 620 points in 87 games, and CP3 with 612 points in 81 games played.
      Don’t forget he’s a 2 time gold medalist. He was second in scoring behind KD for the 2020, which was 2021 due to covid, Olympics while also having 19 points on 8/14 shooting from the field with 5/9 from three and 3/5 from the free throw line, 7 rebounds, 2 steals all being off the bench in 21 minutes in the Gold Medal Game.

He's only missed like 4 or 5 games in average a season and that includes covid missed games and sitting the last game or be 2 before the playoffs. He's never missed a playoff game and that's saying something considering he's been in the playoffs every year and gone deep like 75% of those runs. One thing I hate to admit as a C's fan is letting go of Marcus Smart was one of the biggest reasons for the team's success. He was such a great glue guy, a locker room leader and lockdown defender, but he cost the team a lot of close games like that 21-22 Game 5 vs. the Bucks. Putting the ball in his hands during clutch situations, even to eventually feed it to Tatum or Brown, was a coin toss that fell to the wrong side more often than not. Guards with better ball security and decision making like White and Holiday take so much attention away from Tatum that it allows him to take the shots that come to him, and not force them up which is huge for a star on a championship team.

    • @CTEagleCeltic
      @CTEagleCeltic 2 месяца назад

      Don’t feel that bad, nearly everyone we traded eventually got injured… if TimeLord developed a 3, he’d have been KP… Jrue replaced Smart minus the missed games, which was his main issue IMO…. I really would’ve loved to keep everyone, but health is the number 1 factor most years… Haters only acknowledge when the Celtics benefit.

    Caught me off guard hearing an over the pound accent. Good to see people in other parts of the world following and documenting the sport. Secondly, I maybe biased because I’m a Celtics fan, but I feel like Tatum is misunderstood. People make fun of his quotes and call him cringey etc. but I feel like he genuinely just is being himself. He is a pretty low key guy for the most part. Sure he may quote or try to emulate people. Those people are considered greats at their craft though, so I kind of feel like it is paying respect to people who motivated him to play great. Say what you want about him but he has won a lot. Has done what he needed to do to win a lot. Now he is a champion with the chance to run it back. We will see what happens.

    It never ceases to amaze me how much criticism Tatum gets. The guy posted 27 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and .5 blocks per game on a 55.2% EFG. He did it while playing on a team packed with talent, including two other scoring talents. That's elite. Moreover, Tatum plays both ends of the floor, being a solid defender in addition to an offensive talent and it's also worth noting that he makes an effort on defense and prides himself on that end. In a conference that, while weaker than the West, still contains two MVP's as well as other superstar talent, Tatum has taken his team to how many Conference Finals? What else do people want from a superstar?
    Oh yeah, and off the court Tatum seems to be well-grounded and mature. Despite years of doubt, he never seems to let the fanbase (one of the toughest in the NBA), get to him. He doesn't go out to strip clubs during lockdown. He doesn't wave guns around on social media. He seems to be a good guy that's just grateful to be playing the sport at the level he is. Once again, I don't think you can ask for much more from a star player.

    Tbh the only times Celtics really flopped was when they had bad rosters. Like 2019 way too much ball stoppers. 2020 roster was so small, started Kemba and Theis at PG and C, teams were feasting on them in P&R. 2021, the whole roster was terrible.

Tatums percentages have just slowly declined, and his midrange especially these days are nearly under league average at every point (I’m going off of a Kirk goldsberry graphic on his ig). He definitely needs that wrist surgery, or needed it when he first got hurt. I feel like offensively he’s declined since year 4 and 5 in the lethality of his scoring, but his playmaking has improved by a landslide. If Tatum was back to an around 40% 3pt shot and he could be more league average in the midrange (as well as go up strong and stop missing those bunnies, he does a weird scoop shot that someone like Steph curry would go for, except Tatum is 6’9), he’d be a top 3-4ish player in the league
