This was Tatums best year in his career.. he did everything that we Celtics fans have been begging for years. Making better decisions. In years past he would make a stupid TO with an awful pass to close games and it would drive us bonkers. He now makes the right read in the closing minutes and throughout the game, he knows how to make the extra pass and pass out of doubles which he didn’t do in the past. Hence why his assist numbers have gone up so much. He is also a much better finisher around the rim compared to years past and still an elite defender. He has struggled from the field at times in the playoffs but that happens. The reason the Celtics won is because we still played through him and he made the right reads and got us crucial buckets when it was needed. People who just casually hate are blind to how good JT is

One thing I hate to admit as a C's fan is letting go of Marcus Smart was one of the biggest reasons for the team's success. He was such a great glue guy, a locker room leader and lockdown defender, but he cost the team a lot of close games like that 21-22 Game 5 vs. the Bucks. Putting the ball in his hands during clutch situations, even to eventually feed it to Tatum or Brown, was a coin toss that fell to the wrong side more often than not. Guards with better ball security and decision making like White and Holiday take so much attention away from Tatum that it allows him to take the shots that come to him, and not force them up which is huge for a star on a championship team.
Don’t feel that bad, nearly everyone we traded eventually got injured… if TimeLord developed a 3, he’d have been KP… Jrue replaced Smart minus the missed games, which was his main issue IMO…. I really would’ve loved to keep everyone, but health is the number 1 factor most years… Haters only acknowledge when the Celtics benefit.
Now that the Js have won, pressure is off,and I have a feeling this 24/25 season could be a season where Mizzula gives them a little bit more freedom to showcase their REAL abilities, they could not, while facing expectations to win a Title.I can't wait for the Opening Night.

Secondly, I maybe biased because I’m a Celtics fan, but I feel like Tatum is misunderstood. People make fun of his quotes and call him cringey etc. but I feel like he genuinely just is being himself. He is a pretty low key guy for the most part. Sure he may quote or try to emulate people. Those people are considered greats at their craft though, so I kind of feel like it is paying respect to people who motivated him to play great. Say what you want about him but he has won a lot. Has done what he needed to do to win a lot. Now he is a champion with the chance to run it back. We will see what happens.
Hahaha and yes I personally don't understand the hate JT gets at all and this is coming from a Bucks fan. I personally like the guy and even have his jersey from a couple seasons back. A revenge season is in store for sure
It never ceases to amaze me how much criticism Tatum gets. The guy posted 27 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and .5 blocks per game on a 55.2% EFG. He did it while playing on a team packed with talent, including two other scoring talents. That's elite. Moreover, Tatum plays both ends of the floor, being a solid defender in addition to an offensive talent and it's also worth noting that he makes an effort on defense and prides himself on that end. In a conference that, while weaker than the West, still contains two MVP's as well as other superstar talent, Tatum has taken his team to how many Conference Finals? What else do people want from a superstar? Oh yeah, and off the court Tatum seems to be well-grounded and mature. Despite years of doubt, he never seems to let the fanbase (one of the toughest in the NBA), get to him. He doesn't go out to strip clubs during lockdown. He doesn't wave guns around on social media. He seems to be a good guy that's just grateful to be playing the sport at the level he is. Once again, I don't think you can ask for much more from a star player.
Tbh the only times Celtics really flopped was when they had bad rosters. Like 2019 way too much ball stoppers. 2020 roster was so small, started Kemba and Theis at PG and C, teams were feasting on them in P&R. 2021, the whole roster was terrible.
He's definitely improved in all the other intangibles on the game but if you think a superstar can offensively play this in 2 final appearances and 1 conference final then you'd be bugging. I'd say he's a great player but the inconsistencies offensively holds the superstar status back for now
