Hi Ken, good 'trip report' ! in 1990 I met Manfred Eicher (ECM) and was invited to their offices outside Munich which was amazing. It was winter and snowing, but fresh bagels and coffee awaited us, plus a preview of all their new releases at that stage, excellent memory. I also met the couple who owned Steeplechase (Danish jazz label) and the guys from Timeless (Dutch jazz label, sadly now no more). From a drumming point of view, check out the Louis Bellson recording with orchestra on the Swedish BIS label; it's excellent. BIS is actually a classical label and record direct like Chesky....great stuff.
I am so glad you mentioned the young demographics at European (and Asian, also) audio shows! Hardly anyone mentions this fact, but what we constantly hear and read in the US audio press is the audio market is fading because the market is aging. But it is not hard to see when you watch a video such as this.
I really enjoyed hearing about your European visit. I find it very interesting. I really like the ECM finds. I am living in Denmark and there is a shop in Copenhagen with an ECM LP section. I like when record shops have dedicated ECM sections.
That Harry Pepl record is an eccentric gem from deep in the ECM catalog. Nice find, Ken! Love the video and the whirlwind impressions of the trip. Sounds like a blast.
@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 if you were to get up and go out about 5 am there would be orange jacketed people cleaning up everywhere. That is the welfare recipients. That’s how it was done in the eighties.
Nice vid, yes, those German ECM pressings are very nice, I have 75 or so. The Warners are pretty good, avoid the US Plolydor, awful. Looking forward to the Goldnote vid as their phono stage (the less expensive one) is on my short list for my first stand alone unit. Keep the faith.

Happy you enjoyed the trip.
Love your heartfelt passion and wonder for the good things in life Ken.
Sounds like an amazing time, very cool - Mike
Thanks Mike!
Munich is such a beautiful city. I went there last summer
Ken, I'm glad you enjoyed Munich. Greetings from Munich.
I love your city
Lovely video Ken. Submitting this comment from Vienna, which is very similar to Munich. Maybe we will all emigrate after November.
I hear you!
Never at the show but lived in Germany for years. There are things a lot of Americans could learn.
Like how to keep a subway, clean for starters

Ken, you teach me so much. Here’s one for you - New York is not the oldest subway in the world. London is.
Thank you
Dammit, I’m just about to leave for Munich!!
ecm jackpot
