It’s amazing what Sam Raimi managed to accomplish on such a shoestring budget. No wonder Marvel needed him to bring their most popular superhero to life!
Half the reason they were aɓle to stay in budget was because Ted Raimi did anything. Ted almost died from dehydration playing the Witch. He also did the ADR for the possessed witches in all the movies.
Legend has its that it was written by the darkones,"Necronomican X-Mortis",roughly translated,Book of the dead. The book disappeared... when i was kid,i just peed in my pants literaly hearing this screaming sound effects from the creatures ..memories🔥🔥
this is one is cooler, but the opening with the camera swooping over the bog is suitably creepy and generally fits the tone of the original quite well I think.
The film was almost called 'Book of the Dead', until one of the film's producers, Irvin Shapiro, said to them that it would make people think they had to read for 90 minutes and instead advised them to call it The Evil Dead.
This might be a weird take, but I wish this was as much backstory as we’d been given on the Necronomicon. Ash vs the Evil Dead was a fun nostalgic romp, but it took all the mystery out of the Necronomicon and its origins. I wanted to go back to when I knew basically nothing about it. When it seemed less like something which had been written by a human (or even nonhuman) hand, with some human purpose behind it, and more like evil itself given shape, manifested for the sole purpose of causing chaos when it fell into the hands of some dumb college kids. Evil Dead should feel like a spooky story told around a campfire by someone who swears “it happened to a friend of a friend of theirs”.
Some people didn't like the tone of Evil Dead II and preferred the horror/gore approach of the original, but I guess Raimi's point with II was: in order to battle/defeat evil, you must first laugh at it; whatever.
The comedy in the film is situational, i.e. it's the things which strike the viewer as funny, rather than the film trying to tell you what's funny. The comedy never feels tacked-on to the action, but rather it's a natural occasional consequence of the demented events taking place, like the eye flying into the mouth. There are lots of horror comedies, but the genres rarely seem so perfectly interwoven as here. Peter Jackson's Brain Dead (AKA Dead Alive) would be another one, imo. I actually think the horror aspect of the second film is better as well. It's just so much more creepy and atmospheric. This intro is perfect.
I hope the new evil dead movies draw inspiration from this it is literally heavy in new content. New deadite designs, sea running red with blood, please do a movie in the historic setting of the year 1300ad. So much potential
@@fabiharahman6329keep in mind that the series is a pendulum swing between horror and comedy. Evil Dead 2 is a dark comedy/horror after all. So do you want a remake of Army of Darkness but darker? So even Evil Dead 2013 is set in the same universe (tho it’s a bit of retcon).

I've just realised this was probably a big influence on the opening credits of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
