Doesnt matter, he had to play 4 top ten players en route to the title including a few five setters. They both played same amount of sets before final. Rafa was winning 3-1 in final set but Roger turned it around with amazing attacking tennis and hit his backhand really well. Whoever would have won would have deserved to win and Roger won.

0:20 Normally, historically, this is where federer would slice down the line, allowing nadal to run around and hit a winner to the open court. Instead he stands up, goes after it and immediately takes back control of the rally. His flat cross-court backhands won him this trophy.

Best part of this was Fed's reaction. Djokovic would be yelling at the top of his lungs, so would Murray. Federer? Fist bump and a look to his box. So calm, so cool, so great. Djokovic is the undisputed GOAT, but Fed will be just as timeless.

      One question:
Why was this so-called G.O.A.Time unable to do the above closer to his _own_ prime time, especially in 2009? :-P
      Wait. This just got interesting.
      One more:
Why was this so-called G.O.A. Time unable to pervade _time_ when Pancho Gonzales was no.1 for 8 years (isn't that more than 301 Federerian weeks?) in the 1950s?
Darn, you gotta gimme one more:
Why was this so-called G.O.A. Time unable to beat a pubescent teenager on clay and the faster Dubai hardcourt in his prime _time_ in 2006?
      Last one, I promise:
Why was this so-called GOAT unable to win those 46 times against the BULL and the CHEETAH, considering he's supposed to (by you) do his thang for "all time"?
_P.S. -- Rakim is the real rap god. Maybe Eminem and Nas are GOATs, but GOATs are just poor men's gods_.

    • @ManuPresannakumar
      @ManuPresannakumar 8 лет назад +4

yes that changed the momentum of rally but more importantly after that shot federer tried to push nadal to the right court with 3 similar type of loop forehands....and then when nadal hit a power backhand out of frustration...roger just drove it back to the open court for winner !
federer has never quite played this style of patient strokes against nadal before ! Great tactic.

I could watch this point (indeed, this entire match ) all day - every day. This is why we watch sports. I have shared every win and loss with Federer and felt the pain of every one of Nadal's defeats with him. And, if my own joy in watching Fed wrestle this match away from Nadal is any measure, Federer must have been the happiest man on Earth by a margin that night.
    Because, I sure was second.
    Unquestionably GOAT

To all those who thought that the toilet break for Roger just before the start of the 5th set somehow upset Nadal's rhythm fail to realise that it was Nadal who broke Roger's serve immediately (first game) and so was ahead in the set at the beginning. All he had to do after that was hold serve. It was Roger that had to break twice and thus was under more pressure in that set. Either way, both players gave us a true spectacle of a grand slam tennis final. One had to win and it was Roger's day. Awesome shot making from both players.

Ji Won Chong He can get 19 at SW19. The story is perfectly set.
However, todays victory will live in my memory forever. Whether he wins 19 or not, nothing can compare to the feeling of seeing the last ball on the line and Federer winning a grand slam after 4 years. I am a hardcore fan watch almost all his matches, support him in every tournament. After losing in Wimby 2014 and 2015 and US open 2015. He has come back from injury to beat 4 top ten players and winning three decisive sets. Nothing will ever beat the feeling of Federer winning AO 2017. Remember this date Federer fans because 29th January 2017 is Rogers day forever.

I think Wimby 2014 was pretty close actually, he was in the brink of defeat and came back, but Us Open 2015 was a heartbraking loss. He played so well in that match but that 4/23 break point conversion will ever haunt my mind. However, today's win erases all those bad memories. Today we celebrate as fed fans.
I could care less if he wins #19, the moment I saw the ball hit the line during that match point challenge will never again repeat itself. It was similar to watching him win the French Open for the first time after trying so many times, but this one felt even better. Going almost 5 years without any GS titles was heartbraking, now, everything tastes sweeter!

This is one of the best points ever, this is why Federer is the greatest tennis player ever , Federer is so talented it is beyond belief, while Nadal is rather focused and successful on clay and physical strength ! I prefer Roger's magic brain shots rather than Nadal's brawn shots !

While this Fedal match may not be the greatest quality-wise, especially when compared to Wimbledon 2008, this definitely was a major throwback to the golden era, when shotmaking was all-round and complete. And the drama was incomparable.
This is a match I will remember forever.

I am sooo happy .The old federer would approach the net and get passed after hitting one forehand down the line but not this time. Its strange how a 35 year old federer stayed back and did not get tired of the exhausting rally.

Notice how in 0:26 after hitting the forehand to Rafa's left side, Roger initially wanted to approach the net but he immediately went back to the baseline. This moment along his ridiculously improved backhand through 2017 shows how much Roger has worked (both in physical and strategic terms) to defeat Rafa. Old Roger would have approach the net after that forehand, but he has learnt that Rafa being a lefty coupled with his insane passing shot capabilities, would have made the net approach risky. In this case, had Roger approached the net, Rafa's passing shot would either be a winner or force Roger to a bad volley. Excellent tactics.

This rally has so many reversals is ridiculous. the quality is unreal. Every time one of them started to take control of the point and started edging forward to try to finish the point, the other found the perfect deep shot to punish any thought of stepping forward haha.
