For anyone curious or here looking for help, this is essentially the same process for an FD rx7. There are a ton of parts used across the NA Miata, to the FD rx7, and even on to the NB Miata. I came here to watch mid shifter rebuild on my FD to see how to install the bottom bushing. I replicated it and it worked like a treat. A+ video.
What’s the purpose of doing this? My Miata is having trouble getting into reverse and 1st. I replaced the slave cylinder and the master clutch cylinder but it’s still sticky. Would this help
EXCELLENT vid, THANKS! Just what I needed. And thanks for pointing out that my NB shifter has a front and back side.... As previously mentioned, time to change the shifter oil in the 5 speeder. 80-95 ML of manual trans oil.
Hey man great work on the gear shifter replacement and how did it go after installing it no more hard to out it in gear and is the deal still going on.?.
I thought i could do this myself but this is actually missing parts that i want to understand like oil. I thought i changed all my fluids and the fluid in this is black. Like what do i even do? Holy shit. 94 miata here 909-930 kit. Smh
Don't forget to change the turret oil while you're in there! ONLY if you have a 5 speed though! 6 speeds are lubricated by the trans oil!
Yes thank you! Forgot to mention this in the video since I knew I would have to pop the shifter back out when the trans went in.
@@AlexPerrucci No problem!
Use a hand pump to get the old oil out. Turkey baster doesn't get down deep enough.

@@Kat0401 how about trans oil?
THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THE DIRECTION OF THE SHIFTER!!

Great timing, was just about to do this🙂
Awesome!
Same, litterly gonna do it in a couple of weeks
Thank you! I am doing this on my 99 miata which is my first car
Had no clue about the shifter bushing differences between the NA & NB. The more you know!
Nice one, bookmarked for later use!
Most straightforward video I have seen on this subject. New sub.. thank you!
Awesome video, was about to tackle this job myself. You deserve more subs
I’m learning sooo much ! Thanks Alex. 👍🏽😎
Hey did all this to my 02 6 speed!
Still won’t downshift into 5th
And getting some clutch chatter in 1st and reverse?
Any thoughts on 5th? Worn part?
Possible worn out throwout/pilot bearings if you haven't done a clutch recently. 5th gear or its synchros may be worn as well.
Hi, Anny idea where a I can found an 6 gear shifter for an miata 2001 6 speed
Why does the while dot need to face forward?
Because that's how the shifter fits. Otherwise your gonna be shifting into reverse when your trying to get 1st
@@caza00caza that was a funny reply! I thought it was simply the angle of the shifter...

Can you link us those rags... They're the best
Costco! ❤️
Just a build question, why did you opt to simply rebuild the stock shifter instead of rebuilding it with the MiataRoadster shifter kit?
Just personally always been happy with the stock shifter after a rebuild, also less cost.
How about for the NC?
Other videos I have seen, they fill the turret up with gearbox oil.
Yes, do this.
Please confirm if you have to add oil for 6 speed.
Why don't clean ?
Aaahhmm... turret oil?
