Credit cards are only good if you use them correctly. Sad thing is a good amount of people grow up uneducated on how credit works. Debit and credit are two entirely different things. Debit is an easy way to spend money you currently have. This way you don't have to carry cash around. Every time you swipe it, money gets automatically taken out of your account instantly. The card also doesn't let you use it if you don't have the money. Credit is different. You are borrowing money with the promise to pay it back at a later date. You can pay the "minimum balance" if you can't pay the full amount of your debt. However, that unpaid balance is subject to whatever interest rate your card charges. The higher the loan, the more interest is added to it.
This is why I never allowed my ex girlfriends to get access to my funds. I also never bailed them out of debt when they kept buying until they maxed out their cards.
Also, credit cards continue to let you spend money even when you can't afford to pay it off. That's how credit bureaus make money; from the interest payments that are added to your loan if it isn't paid in full. You can avoid using credit cards in some situations, but there are instances where having a credit history is a requirement. Such as buying a car or house.
