This is one of the better demos you guys have done in a while. Great job. Wasn’t too into the sound on this one but they did a pretty good control lay out.
I’m digging this pedal! I’ve been looking for a nice distortion pedal for my rig! Walrus always has awesome face designs, and this is no exception! Now I just gotta go to my local shop and place an order for one…
TBPH, I'm not a fan of overdrive on bass, but I acknowledge that it can have its uses. The nature of "drive" it that it unavoidably emphasises the upper partials, and therefore makes the fundamental weaker by comparison. So, there are really two ways I think drive can be used effectively. The first is to simulate vintage sounds of tube amps being driven into saturation, which I think is appropriate for certain kinds of "classic rock", made back when "high power" amps were 300 watts or less. I use this type of overdrive, myself, on occasion, just a light push into "beginning to saturate" territory. For a lot of years, I gigged with a Trace Elliot V-Type all tube rig, and I kind of miss that sound for certain things. I'm currently using a Boss BB-1X Bass Driver, but I'm planning on adding a One Control BJFe Blackberry Bass Overdrive to my setup, as well. In more modern applications, I personally think it's best to use two completely separate signal paths for overdriven and clean signal, rather than using a drive pedal with a "blend" knob. The mixing should be done at the console. The ensures that you retain complete control over the clean signal, which preserves the balance and impact of the fundamental. However, if your signal chain is simple, a pedal with a blend knob like the Ages or Eras will work just fine. Both of these pedals sound best to me with the Blend knob below 50% In virtually any modern application in which people think overdrive/distortion/fuzz sounds awesome on bass, my opinion is that it would sound even better and heavier if the drive sound were mixed in parallel with a clean sound to bolster the fundamental. What sounds good when playing solo bass is not the same thing as what sounds good in a mix. Playing bass with drive is kind of like wanking off in your bedroom on guitar with a Boss Metal Zone. It sounds great in isolation, but weak as fuck in an actual band.
I'm a firm believer that every distortion pedal should include some form of clean blend, even if its not for bass. Guitarists don't know what they're missing with that feature
@@silkyb9869 Dunno, I got a B7k ultra, and it's taken me about 3 years to work out i don't like the distortion tone. Maybe the Vintage one would have suited me. I think i'm really looking for a light overdrive. Gonna get a Pork and Pickle and see how i go with that.
@@craigmoran893 I had the alpha omega ultra and I never could settle on any sounds. I have a solid gold fx beta going into a Sobbat Bass Breaker and the combo is great....just wish 1 pedal could do it right. The Sobbat takes a lil bass out but the beta fattens it nicely. Thanks for the reply
I feel like it's imperative for you guys to try the Ages by Walrus Audio now. I've always been more of a slight breakup, little bit of grit kinda person, instead of the straight distortion type like this pedal, so I think it would be really cool to check out the mellower sibling of the two.
While we're on the topic of Walrus Audio, I have a demo idea. Their Jupiter fuzz. But I think there should be a bit more use of a direct-in signal. That's just my opinion. This one sounds really good though!!!
I think this pedal is more suited for guitar. Even with the clean blend, the wet signal sounded shrill to me. This pedal just screams power chords and palm muting, which is not so great for bass.
I wouldn't say it's even a copy of the Darkglass sound. The signature B7k tone is very similar to the classic "Rat" distortion pedal. Like a Rat pedal with a blend, ha! Check out this Rat pedal from 1986: ruclips.net/video/jTZExCysMIc/видео.html
We don’t assume assume that everyone watching is male. “Guys” is just a term we use to address a group of people regardless of gender. A group of women could just as easily be addressed the same. Maybe it’s just the part of the country we’re from 🤷🏻♂️ Either way, being exclusive has never been something we’ve aimed to do.

Just curious, what did you like better about this demo than any other demo we’ve done lately?
Love the clank! Another great video guys!
Cool..there is a hint of Darkglass sound in that pedal..very nice
yeah definitely sounds darkglassy!
Yeah... sounds like Darkglass Microtubes X / X7 pedal
It’s the DS-1 style distortion, someone mentioned once that the first B3K was based off a DS-1 and can certainly hear that
@@isaacandhismusic1153 Or the Rat pedal from the 80's.

There are some nice tones on tap there!
Another great video! This pedal is off the wall. Love the face design on it as well.
Really love this pedal. Bit bright at times, but handles the mid range growl really well and seems to maintain a good amount of bottom end too

This thing sounds stellar!
Awesome demo! Another Walrus Audio pedal I'd love a demo of is the ARP-87. There's a lack of bass demos for that one.
I have one and with the blend you can control bottom end loss great pedal.

I cringe when i see a new pedal without one.
100%
So what is your favorites w dry blend?

Killer distortion pedal. 😎🤘🏻🎸
More Thrice riffs please! Pedal sounds gnarly.

@@TheBassChannel I thought you guys demoed the Ages last year when it came out?
Love it, thanks so much
A bit much for me personally, but Walrus did a nice job on the features and versatility. Sounds great.

great now i need to buy one of these now too..

I am waiting to your demo of the Ages from Walrus.
This will look nice next to Julia.
Can someone tell me which bass is being played at 2:16? Ty

@@craigmoran893 Ohh wow, Im very impressed with that Rat pedal!
With guitar, it tackles every 90s distortion sound out there.
I love that it’s 2021 and it’s okay to openly like St Anger now. That said I’m still torn about it.
Oh yeah the pedal sounds nice too!
I’ve openly liked St. Anger since 2003. Now I just have an avenue to publicly share it. 🤘🏻
Ew
No, still way too early to say that in public.
@@MrBlewvane oh okay. Well I’ve got plausible deniability since I’m still torn. 😂😎
What track game in demonstration??
Is this pedal by Erasov from Russia?
Is it battery power only?
I was digging it until the red bass. That sounded horrible
Explain how? Seemed pretty good when listening through good speakers.
I SHOULDN'T HAVE WATCHED THIS
This pedal kinda sounds like shit, too clanky sounding
Another dirt pedal🙄
There’s a bunch of them out there. And we won’t rest until we’ve tried them all. 😉

At least it has a Blend knob.
Yes and we want more
