    Another typically clear and informative tutorial from Robin. Thanks and keep up the great work. You more than any other RUclipsr have helped me get to grips with Affinity Photo.

    What does a luminosity mask do. Please try to explain what and why you do something before starting. Struggling with understanding luminosity mask and when to use it and why. Pls clarify.

      Luminosity Masks are an advanced subject. I would suggest you don’t try to tackle this yet if you don’t already know what they do. It’s probably not the right video for you at this time. You may be better visiting my lenscraft website and reading some of the introductory tutorials about masks and masking.

    Hi Robin, I loved hearing your Manchester pronunciation , identical almost to my Cheshire accent, even after 37 years in Germany.
    However - I have to draw the line at your pronunciation of "Gaussian" as "Gaysian" - the pronunciation is phonetically "Gouwsian" as in (Northern slang) "nouse" after the German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauß (Gowse??). Thanks a lot, enjoyed the video

    Here's a mnemonic to remember the color of the brush when applied to a mask: Black/Conceals, White/Reveals in other words, whatever effect you have masked will be concealed by a Black brush and revealed by a White brush.

    I believe AF is a bit far in usability from C1 luminosity masks, for instance. I guess this highly interesting part of retouching will be vastly improved by the developers of AF in future releases
    Thanks Robin

      But there are other alternatives in Affinity Photo that you can use. Watch my Range Blending videos (ruclips.net/video/uaZKayQZn-c/видео.html) to see a much more powerful alternative.

    Is there a way to make adjustments to the tonal range selection? I was hoping for a threshold slider to increase/decrease the Luminosity selection. Thanks.

    • @RobinWhalley
      @RobinWhalley  4 года назад +1

      Not very easily using this method of selecting tones. You may want to combine it with the Blending Ranges feature I demoinstrate here (ruclips.net/video/uaZKayQZn-c/видео.html).

    Never understood masks and still don't. I get completely lost even at the first stage, which means I cannot get anywhere with Affinity or any other editing suite. I had the same problem with video editing, avoiding using masks in four years of using FXPX. I simply do not understand the concept behind them and quickly lose or destroy an image when trying to experiment.

    Hello?
    I am a Korean.
    Not a book about Affinity Photo has been published in our country.
    There are tutorials made by Korean RUclipsrs, but they are not as high as yours.
    Please describe it with an easy word. I am not good in English.
    Thank you very much.
