    Tough decision on were the living room should be...I myself don't like my back facing windows...any noise I hear I'll be looking over my shoulder to see what's out there, or if someone is entering. Which ever room you choose, I think the furniture/couch backs should be facing walls and then you can look around, see all windows and enjoy all views.... You also could lower the mantle a bit, giving you more room for a larger tv. No reason why the dinner table and entertainment center can't be in the same room, which ever one you do choose.

  • @Colleen1978

    No... the fireplace area needs to be the dining- breakfast area. Leave the living furniture in the large area where you had it. What about for the cabinets, you paint the lower cabinets the medium grey and the uppers a light almost white? You have a lot of projects planned. Can't wait to see it all come together.

      @@PavingNewPaths Alicia & Kevin....definately consider doing darker on the lower cabinets and lighter on the upper cabinets. As many others have said, darker colors will make your rooms look smaller. Also, you may consider just using clear varnish (Varathane) on the wood plank wall for the same reason. The wood already makes it an accent wall. Good luck and happy renovating.....

    I’m old fashion….I like wood cabinets instead of painted…..less upkeep. When I had my kitchen designed at Lowes, I took them measurements but the sent a pro to measure too. They designed it perfectly. If I have to replace appliances, I’ll sure have to have exact same size I have now. All that dark cabinets and appliances will feel like a cave….hope not. I’ll be anxious to see it.

    Ok,my heart was pounding when you said "paint the fire place". I would leave it white, because that fire place is the focal spot in that entire open concept and it anchors that side of the room. Now the the question is. Are you thinking open concept with zones of living? Or do you want to treat it as three separate spaces?
    Here's my two cents. Treat the entire area as one with different zones. So you have the Kitchen. Then the fire place area and your front area. If your more into casual living. Then put your couch,loveseat, and ottoman where you first put it. The fireplace side of the room I would put dining table on the left side of the fire place with some kind of nice storage piece under the window.
    In front of the fire place I would put two small chairs, table and lamp for a reading area,anchor chairs with a small area rug.The area by the doors and wooden wall I would have a piece of furniture that could hold games and books with lighting and plants on top. This will allow plenty of area for passing through each zone and keep it mostly open for busy little humans!

    Love the colors you have chosen. However, I would do the lower cabinets in the dark color and a lighter color on the top cabinets. Like the display in the store. As far as the living room I like it by the fireplace. Kevin if you lower the fireplace mantel you could get a much bigger tv. For the dining room by the time you add your bar stools and the buffet cabinet on the other wall your table setup will look fine. Also love the kids beds. You have a lot of work ahead and what ever you choose it will be you home.

    The height for the TV in the original couch position is better for viewing. If put over the fireplace, ones neck gets sore from looking too high. A nice family photo over the fireplace would look nice. Include Buddy.

  • @MG-vo7yn
    @MG-vo7yn 3 месяца назад +4

    a word of advice. all colors can be either "warmer" or "cooler". you are looking at grays. a "cool" gray leans ever so slightly towards blue (it doesn't look blue, but it leans blue on the color spectrum). a "warm" gray leans more towards yellow, red, or orange. again, a "warm" gray doesn't look yellow, red or orange, but it leans that way. at the part where kevin was looking at the three door panels through the camera, and he said what he was holding was "gray" and what alecia was holding was blue-sih - good job kevin!! you noticed the difference. in the lighting at the store, the one kevin was holding was a "warmer" gray, where alecia's two samples were "cool" grays.
    after all of that color theory, i suggest using a "warm" gray on the cabinets. you have wood in the space, which has yellow, orange, and red tones (warm tones). if you let your gray lean warmer, it will be more cohesive with the tones of the wood.
    i would not stress over the paint matching the black stainless. the black stainless will function as a "neutral" in the space - it will look FANTASTIC with anything.

    Make one of your lower cabinets a pullout for a trash can.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  4 месяца назад +2

      I have a love/hate relationship with pullout trash cans, so I'm still deciding on if I want one. If I didn't have kids, I would be all in on getting it, but every pullout trashcan I've seen that has children in the home has been a dirty mess inside the drawer and up top since kids are notorious for missing the can and overstuffing the can!

    • @pamdavis1116
      @pamdavis1116 4 месяца назад +2

      No worse than having stuff dropped outside the can on the floor. We don't have kids, but we have a pull out and put in a can that pretty much fills the whole space, so it's hard to miss. Also, where you'd put your trash can is FAR away from the sink and prep area where it will be needed most. My pull-out is beside my sink and the area where I do all my prep. I'd hate to have to walk, even a few steps, across the kitchen to the trash.

    Ok. Yes. Go with honey and #2, I do like the idea of a darker bottom cabinet, just for something different. I like the bigger space for living room. The fireplace for the dining room , it's less steps to the table that way.
    I don't like a TV above a fireplace. You have to crank your neck to look at it. The other wall offers a lower profile for the tv. Also I don't want to stare at the fireplace, I want better outdoor view. The bigger room also allows you to see people approaching the house. Front room In the front. The fireplace living room looks cramped.
    I like the bedroom plans! Keeping the full size rather than twin is also a great idea! Looks/sounds great!
    Fireplace. Keep it, comes in handy when power goes out and it's cold. Either wood burner or gas.

    Option B - I think the dark gray cabinets on the bottom and light gray or white on top would really make it look larger. I think shiplap on the living room wall would look awesome with the honey finish. I like option 2 on furniture placement. You will have to have your table and try both ways before you really know. I like that idea. We have Blue Store cabinets from about 30 years ago. We have two tall cabinets with pull out shelves. Love them! Drawers for base cabinets were not available at that time, but now that we are ancient I cannot get things on the bottom shelves. I was so bummed after our cabinets were installed. We lost what seemed about 1/2 space due to each cabinet has side walls and old cabinets were straight through. We put old cabinets in our laundry room so they were filled quickly with overflow from new cabinets.

    When you have your table made, also think about how many people will be sitting at that table in the future! We had a huge table made for our family because of the holidays we would be hosting we could sit at least 12 people around our table. In fact we had it made in Texas! They delivered to NC!
    A beautiful table made with slate on top trimmed in oak. Heavy table!!

    The colors you picked are exactly what I would pick. They are perfect. Well to me.
    I questioned the location of the living room where you had it. But after you moved it and see the huge new dining area I like the first way you had it.
    You can always make the dining area also have a sitting area with the fireplace as the center. You could make like 3 spaces in that area.

    Kevin, I used to watch "The Router Workshop" when I was a kid. That woodworking will be fun to watch. Alesha, I am looking at my kitchen cabinets, thinking, "I can pint these." You are inspiring me to do it. Option 2. I like the Honey stain. It's lighter than the other. I can't wait to see what you do with that pretty home! Put a small table or shelf with kids books and toys behind the couch so when you walk in you see that not the back of the couch.

    Living room needs to go back to the big room. Sofa impedes, coming in from the outside.
    Option #2 for the paint is good.
    Lots of dining tables in front of the fire place.. good ambiance .. cozy. Especially at thanxgiving. Put a dining buffet on the wall in where the doors go to the outside. So it won’t look so empty,there.
    But the living room needs to go back to the big room. Really! Just sayin’

    Wouldn't the living room look better the other way by the fireplace. block off one of the sliding backdoor upper big window or make kitchen bar longways. Or knockout the whole back wall build new fireplace with wider living space Or you can leave the living room as yes and just pop out the kitchen b Bigger okay now chip@ joann. Keep up the great job.. Renovations are very expensive but so rewarding

    *The steps you build to the top bunk can also function as storage 😊 Pinterest tiny homes thats in essence what your making for the Littles😮
    *the bottom bunk can have a star light feature above
    *make a trundle bottom bunk in which it pulls out from the front of the bed for sleep overs😊
    *living room keep right by the door as you intended. The movie nights will be EPIC in that space because of the theatre experience you’ll create with a bigger TV
    * bottom-cabinets darker colour & upper cabinet pull handles can reflect the darker colour on the bottom cabinets as well.
    *tractor bed awesome!!! Building a barn like wall anchored unit for toys would be kool too😊

    I think the blue store visits will be many um maybe 20 times more LOL . I bought a Frigidaire black stainless steel 3 door frig fron the blue store in 2020 when my old one died. I was do excited about the black stainless steel color and boy it wasn't cheap thats for sure. After about a yr I found the finish was peeling /flaking in and area near the corner of a door. It reminded me of like how fingernail polish peels or flakes off . Its only a small spot but definitely disappointed especially when my 18 yr old frig still looked shiny and almost new. The old frig just got tired and stopped cooling and freezing. Its just the two of us no kids so it was rather disappointing. 😢. I hope you have better luck..

    Leave furniture where you first had it.. one thing no one is remembering is the view next to fireplace will cause glare . Plus with new door opening it just makes sense to smaller area a dining room. Great idea painting the fireplace. Yes do same color as cabinets. Or…. Take that cabinet paint and have it knocked down 50%. It will be same tone but subtle.

    Fun projects! Very excited for y'all. I vote living room by fireplace. The fireplace mantle can also be lowered to accommodate a larger TV. There are dining rooms that are shabby chic and an idea could be to incorporate barn yard with two nice comfy chairs that can be positioned by the front window to enjoy that beautiful view and then be pulled into the dining table when needed. Best & Blessings!

    I know you've probably already purchased the cabinets from the blue store, but if you have a custom cabinet maker in the area, they can be significantly cheaper. We had ours done recently by a local custom shop and the came in about one third the price of the blue store cabinets. I like the LR where you had it plus much better angle for the TV. I know that having the TV above the fireplace seems common now, but I find it a pretty unnatural angle to view since you are looking up rather than level with the TV when sitting on the couch.

    I thought your living room should have been in front of the fireplace until you moved the furniture. It looks better where you had it in the big area. Besides, you'll most likely have side tables that will fill up that room quickly, not to mention bar stools that will push your sofa forward into that big room. You were right to begin with, for sure. I love seeing the reno updates!!

    I heard you talking about removing the fireplace and is that an electric fireplace? If you’re not going to use it to create heat, maybe you should just remove the whole thing and put windows and get a better view of your yard because the fireplace splits up side of the house terribly.

    You could consider the living room in the big area, a cozy reading/convo area with a couple of big cozy chairs and a small table in front of fireplace and a small round kitchen style table (since you don’t entertain inside a lot, in the corner area where the mud room was going to be. Just another idea 😊

    You have to remember you are looking at these rooms/areas almost bare and by the time there's furniture and chairs it will be smaller. Lower the mantel, bigger TV. Push the larger sofa back about a foot more, change the ottomon to a rectangular piece. Keep the rectangular theme, large rectangular dining room table length ways to the front door with chairs one one side, picnic table sitting on the other.
