Creating a Floor Plan Layout - How to Approach Designing Floor Plans and Space Planning

We start with understanding your lot size and determining your house footprint, balancing the relationship between interior design and exterior design and elevations, identifying your wish list and what rooms and spaces you want on each floor, and finally designing your floor plan layout and space planning for furniture placement and good flow in your home. We discuss the trade-offs, considerations, and what to think about when starting the process of creating floor plans for your new home build.

Im planning a big project of a new house. Granted, this house won't be built in the next 15 years- but that doesn't mean I can't plan things out already. Great video! Definitely helped me out on how to approach my ideas properly.

The closer a home is to being a square the less the building materials. A 40x40 home is 1600sqft with perimeter walls of 160 linear ft. Think of the costs for 2x4's OSB boards and drywall that are 4' wide.
Now consider the same 1600sqft in a rectangle let's say 20x80. It has 200 linear feet or 40 more linear feet of exterior and interior materials you have to pay for.
If you need roof trusses in your design then a square home might cost more in roofing materials and trusses. I'm planning an adobe style with a flat roof so that isn't an issue.
I plan to build out of styrofoam panels, not SIP panels nor styrofoam blocks but styrofoam sheets 11" thick. There are builders in Arizona that have built this way for 40 years.
They cover the styrofoam with a special stucco made of super strong concrete 1/2" thick that makes the building super tough.

Hey this is definitely better than going with whatever plan the builder gives you and then filling it with stuff from home depot that you found on sale lol.
and you'll have the privilege of paying an extra 23% on it, AND carry it on loan for 30 years lol
How about changing the layout on an old house… first time buyer and in a budget.

We're planning to build a two-story house with most of the bedrooms on the second floor. We would like to have a 3/4 bath on the first floor and was wondering if a space of 7 x 5 was large enough for a 3/4 bath. Any thoughts?

Oh my gosh you guys, thank you so much for this video. It really helped me understand the need to purchase a bigger lot. Not a fan of small lots and tiny houses. I love big things so a 50 x 100 lot is not going to work for me. Thanks again. I've subbed because your videos have good content.

I'm going to watch each of your videos intently. I want to make an amalgamation of a barn colonial home with conical roof and spiral staircase with no center support. Then make a hedge maze in the yard. I'm starting to think this will be much better than buying a home.
