    Good video, don't agree with your portrayal of Ludwig though. He's one of the few characters that comes across as a pretty straightforward guy who wanted to do good but it ended up going wrong (similar to Artorias.)
    If anyone is the devious one, it's Maria. I don't think she's protecting the hamlet, she's hiding it, keeping it secret because she doesn't want anyone (including herself) to see what she did to the villagers/kos. She's ashamed of her actions, in denial. She throws away her weapon and creates a new persona (Lady Maria) but she can't runaway from the truth. She's a cold blooded killer, so she does what she does best, kills. Only this time, she is her own target.
    Or maybe she made fun of the Moonlight sword and Ludwig got annoyed. All up to interpretation.

    Been on a Bloodborne kick lately when I stumbled onto this vid. A novel explanation though the best rebuttals have already been made.
    Though if we were going to stay on this line of thought that Maria was murdered, I think Brador would be the best suspect. He's dogged and ruthless in protecting the Healing Church's dirty secrets. Also, he's wearing his friend as a hat, so we know he's crazy.

    The Harrowed set reads (can be found on a dead hunter in the hamlet)
    "Certain Church hunters obfuscate their identities and slip into the nooks and crannies of the city.
    This is the garb that allows these harrowed individuals to go unnoticed.
    These hunters are keen to early signs of the scourge, serving as a first line of defense against its outbreak.
    Or perhaps, when the time is right, they find signs of the scourge WHERE THERE ARE NONE. It just goes to show, the corner beggar is not always who he seems."
    This suggests to me they thought it was a beast scourge breakout and decided they would slaughter them all for preventative measures. That's how good hunters (no pun intended) like Maria made the mistake of participating in this.

    ah, but maria threw her rakuyo down the fishing hamlet's well. she would have had to know about its existence. and ludwig wasn't an assassin; if anyone were tasked with doing that, it'd be simon, considering he *tells* you to kill her.

    Well, since we now know that Simon is the reason for her death in the Astral Tower (cut content).. it leaves open to interpretation her feelings of guilt towards the fishing hamlet.
    What I find interesting is how a Hunter dies, yet remains there.. for the player toACTUALLY kill her. And since the doll feels her death, she was actually trapped in the nightmare until that point. Oh nightmares, what a wonderful abstract concept that was created for this game.
    Makes me wonder if for Simon, she is dead, but not for the player.. and she remains in the nightmare for anyone that visits but hasn't slain her him or herself.

    I might have missed it during the explanation. Are you implying that Maria didn't eventually know of what happened at the fishing hamlet?
    Also, you say the Maria was at the clocktower while Byrgenwerth acted in the hamlet, but that would mean that Gherman's hunters and Byrgenwerth in their prime would coexist with the Healing Church, as the Astral Clocktower is part of the Research Hall and the jail where Brador is, is refered as belonging to the Church.
    And that ^ already doesn't add up with Ludwig meeting Maria, for he was a hunter of the Church.
    Nice theories tho, I like how you narrate all this. Some thoughts on what I have mentioned?

    • @SinclairLore
      @SinclairLore  7 лет назад +3

      Thanks!
      Yeah, I think I need to work on the time line for BB as I'm not 100% certain of who coexisted with who...
      But could it be that Ghermans hunters and the healing church co-existed at some poing? And then, after Lawrence left, the hunters of the healing church hunters emerged?

    • @diegocarneroortega8504
      @diegocarneroortega8504 7 лет назад

      I think there might have been a brief period between Lawrence leaving Byrgenwerth and the Hunter's Dream being created when the Healing Church kinda existed but wasn't the force of law in Yharnam.
      Lawrence and Gherman clearly knew each other and likely they summoned the Moon Presence in the, now, Old Abandoned Workshop, as a third of umbilical chord can be found there. Then Gherman gets trapped in the Hunter's Dream, the blood(?) of the Great Ones is used for healing diseases, the Scourge of the Beast appears and Ludwig's legion gets into bussniess, and Lawrence turns into a beast and somewhat of a martyr.
      That's roughly what comes to mind right now.
      What I can't put my finger on right now is what did Gherman's hunters hunt before the Scourage. Because the scourge of the beast clearly happened after the Healing Church came to be. They used Old Yharnam as a testing ground for the old blood, and it's said that that's where the Scourge began.
      So... why there was a need for hunters, for example, before the events of the Fishing Hamlet?
      Maybe I've lost perspective in all this and I'm forgetting something. Any insght on the matter? :D
      (I love talking about lore)

    • @SinclairLore
      @SinclairLore  7 лет назад

      Sorry, missed your first question!
      Yeah, I was suggesting that there's a possibility Maria wasn't aware of the events which took place in the hamlet. Thought unlikely, I think it's an interesting theory :)

    • @diegocarneroortega8504
      @diegocarneroortega8504 7 лет назад

      Sorry but I don't get it :( if it were Cainhurst those who did the baddies in the hamlet I would consider it, since the Rakuyo originates from Cainhurst; but probably Maria was involved in the matter and the regret drove her to suicide.
      If people knew she was from Cainhurst and Annalise's immortality was remotely common knowledge in the Church, Ludwig would probably have known that cutting their throat wouldn't have done anything
      This rabbit hole is growing deeper and deeper...

  • @stuartroom3171
    @stuartroom3171 7 лет назад +2

    i dont get the replacement part. there is also no evidence for that,as there are many work shops and gehrman was simply the first of the hunters who crafted the trickweapons and the style of hunters on his own, there could be no replacement of that rank he had. Both were under laurences orders as he was the first leader of the church. Ludwig would likely be just a skilled fighter who became cursed by the blade(or another think), and later by the fishing hamlets curse to the hunters. All
    the ludwig weapons talk about a fatefull fight against the other beasts, so i believe they are just manipulated warriors, without higher motives. Maria is also in the nightmare, so either she found a blooddrunk eye (which is unlikely because she was there while the curse was made) and found a amigdala or she was drawn to the nightmare (the dlc) as well, so she would have at least fighted against the inhabitants. either way nice theorie. coll that you also try bloodborne lore (favourite game by the way)

    • @SinclairLore
      @SinclairLore  7 лет назад

      Thanks man!
      Yeah, basically, I had a question that sparked this theory. My question was "why Ludwig?" as in "Why was Ludwig chosen to lead the Healing Church Workshop?". I figured there might be some manipulation to get the job. But for sure there are holes in this theory! :)

    As Ludwig being my favourite boss ever, naturally I want to defend him in this case. Origin-wise, Ludwig most likely started as a cleric/prospector, eventually finding the Moonlight Blade and returning to the surface after seeing his "guidance" with both the Blade and his Rune. This is when he somehow is promoted to "First Church Hunter", maybe through determination and fighting prowess? And thus commissioned BIG weapons after in the style of the Moonlight Sword also being big enough to slay bigger beasts, like ones found in the labyrinth. He also recruited and armed Yharnamites to defend themselves. Ludwig is quite obsessed with honour. All of the Sword Hunter badges describe him and his Holy Blades as being honourable knights of an age long past. Murdering Lady Maria is completely out of character for him, and not much to be gained. In the end, Lady Maria is a formidable hunter and interesting character but Ludwig just wins it for me. He is innocent as I see it. :p

    Very interesting theory you have here. It departs rapidly from other theories suggesting that Maria part took at the slaughter and killed herself because of her guilt. Your theory however couldve explained what may have caused her death, and that would be Ludwig, as stated. Now, what if ludwig really did kill her and made it look a suicide in order to hide suspicion? Who knows tho... awesome theory btw. I really enjoyed the video!

    Nice theory but isn't nightmare only for hunters "crazed with bloodlust"? Those who lost themselves in the hunt. That would rule out the "not knowing" and most likely assassination part. I'm still quite sure that she took part in the slaughter but realized what is happening just after.

      Sinclair Lore Haha right.. Months after last playing this I suddenly got interested in and can't stop myself from wondering about a certain part of the story and the Moon Presence's strange appearance that looks nothing like the Great Ones we see in the game, it literally looks like an undead beast whereas the others we see look completely alien and have a totally different type of skin.

    • @SinclairLore
      @SinclairLore  7 лет назад

      yeah, the moon presence always seemed "unfinished" or undead to me. I wasn't sure whether it was a great one trying to regenerate itself through echoes, or perhaps it was formless Oedon trying to take shape.
      Then again, some could say that we never really meet Great ones in the game, only their Kin. Perhaps all great ones look like the Moon Presence.

    • @WhiskeyTango76s
      @WhiskeyTango76s 7 лет назад

      Sinclair Lore Idk, I haven't heard much about that, I've always had the impression that Kos and Ebriettas (Spelt wrong probably) were true Great Ones. I tend to think Oedon really had no part in anything and just wanted an infant. I don't believe the males were affected in Oedon Chapel and pretty much stayed the same (Dunno about the beggar, I've always sent him to the Clinic and he was already acting crazy before we meet him), only the females started to lose their minds so this is what makes me think that he wasn't interested in anything else but who knows, ants aren't capable of understanding why we do the things we do so I guess that'd apply with us and the Great Ones.
      I'd like to try lore hunting but damn, it's hard for me to take it seriously on account for the fact that with most games there really isn't a hidden story, the devs may not have even completely thought something through. It'd suck to put so much effort into something only to find out later that there really were no questions to even have an answer for. I'm not saying there isn't one on DS or BB but with my luck I'd end up trying to answer the one thing that never even existed lol.
