A man after my own heart. 7RemMag is my preferred chambering. Super accurate with great bullet versatility and high bc. Plenty of punch down range for the big animals at distance.
I watched this vid again to refresh my mind on your findings & results. I have a family member who runs RL19, 22 & I believe 25 in his 300 Win. Mag. He found MagPro at his local shop & picked up a pound last summer. I refered him to this video. I do want to make a slight correction to my statement in earlier comment about H1000. It is a great powder but I have found it heats up my barrels quickly & my groups begin to either string or open up. But I do get good velocities & accuracy in 5 shots or so. Thank you again for content.
Thank you for recommending my videos! Yeah, Most of the RL powders have been hard to find lately. I do see Magpro fairly often. I hope it works out for your family member. I have noticed that some powders do heat up the barrel faster. For hunting where usually 1 to 3 shots are needed, not much of an issue. Thanks again!
Very good information. I am currently waiting for my order of Magpro to come in and I will be pairing that with 150 grain sierra gameking also. My BAR 2 safari 7 mag loves the gameking bullets
Thanks! Magpro is not that popular, but I keep seeing it on the shelves. More popular magnum powders seem to be very hard to fine. I hope it works out for you! Thanks again!
I was getting crazy speeds out of Magpro with my Bar2 7 mag and 150 grain gameking. I was getting well over 3200 fps with no pressure signs but it was slamming the action on that semi auto so I tamed it down
30-06 John I too love the 7MM Rem Mag, going on now for 30 years now, mine is a Weatherby with 24 inch barrel. Over the years I’ve found that 5 shot groups give a lot more information than 3 shot groups. You did have some very tight groups indeed, but your velocity’s were well below the factory specs of 3110 FPS with a 150 Gr bullet . You were down in the 280 Remington area. Accurate Magpro powder to slow for a 150 Gr, a 160 up to 168 would be better bullet weight for this slower burning powder. The original load back in 1962 was with a 160 Gr soft point with IMR-7828 . Keep up the good load development.
I was surprised at how slow RL-22 was, Magpro was much closer to expected results. In my other 7 mag video, IMR 8133 gave me very good results. I am still working up loads with this rifle. Thanks for watching and the comments!
@@30-06john IMR-8133 would be a good powder for a 175 -180 Gr bullets . As you go up in bullet weight, the powder burn rate should be slower. The 7RM is a over-bore cartridge the 160-175 Gr bullets will make it perform very efficiently.
I just bought a 26” barreled browning x bolt max long range chambered in 6.8 western. Going to reload the 170 grain Berger eol. Would Retumbo be better than reloader 22?
I am surprised your RL22 wasn't all over 2900. Magpro is a good magnum powder. Like Retumbo it seems to deliver a good bit of recoil. IMR4831, IMR4350 H1000 has served me well since the 90s for everything I asked of it. No sacrifice on accuracy. You seem to be a steady accurate shooter. Shot placement with either one of these loads in your hands should harvest the game of choice.
After I found RL22 I haven’t tried anything else. Shoots well in 3 of my rifles so I stocked up. If I ever burn through my stock pile I might give mag pro a try
Maybe I missed it, but I'm curious as to what Chronograph you're using because 65gr's of RL22 should have you "WELL" above 2900 fps, if not at least 3000 fps unless you're building bad pressure at that weight. All of my 7MM Rem Mag's eat a steady diet of 62.5 gr of RL22 with 168 Berger VLD's and over my MagnetoSpeed V3 are right at 2900 at "my" CBTO which can still magazine feed with no issues.
Yeah, I was surprised at the velocity with RL-22 also. I use several different chronographs, either a Caldwell Precision G2 or a Chrony Beta Master. I think it may be the primers. I used CCI 250 magnum rifle primers with RL-22, I have seen significant differences using them and other magnum rifle primers. The best in my use is the Remington 9 1/2M primer. Also Magnetospeed and the Labradars give slightly higher velocities than the sky screen type since they are at the muzzle and not 10ft in front. Hey, thanks for the question and watching!
In this video I am using COAL, that is max spec for the 7 Rem Mag. It is not in the video, but I use a Hornady OAL gauge to determine length. Most of the time, magazine length is the limiting factor. Hey, thanks for the question and watching!
I have used reloader 22 in a few calibers but I would like to try the mag pro powder for my 270 wsm the blogs and videos say that the powder for the short magnums
Are you limited by your magazine for your cartridge length?? You used 3.290". Can you go longer???? If you can go longer you can increase your load density. If you are limited by your magazine length....try adjusting your seating depths by 2 thousanths adjustment to find the seating depth for your gun. Good luck..
Thanks. I have done a few more videos on my 7 mag. I have the loads shooting pretty good now for my needs, 3/4 moa at distance. Thanks for the tips and watching!

Good advice vitoEb 1978. I support your advice on the IMR 7828 POWDER CHOICE...
Thank you Bill , I’ve learned over the years with the 7RM is that the more powder you burn per shot, the more barrel you burn per shot

Nice work. That does seem like quite a difference in velocity. Have you played with the OAL at all?
No I have not. I might try using the Rem 9 1/2M primer for the RL22 instead of the CCI 250.
@@30-06john I haven't uses either powder before so I suppose anything could make a change
Thanks for watching! RL22 is a popular magnum powder, Magpro less popular.
Go with the Mag Pro!
Right now, I will be using Magpro, unless I can find more of IMR 8133! Thanks!

I was surprised that RL22 wasn't faster too. Until the powder shortage eases up, I'll have to use Magpro since I have plenty.
Put a E C TUNER MUZZLE BRAKE on it and tune your best load with the tuner. It will become a quarter inch magnum! That's .25 inch...
You will be happy.
I might have to try that! Thanks for watching!

imr 7828 was developed for the 7mm rem mag and will beat all for all bullet weights !
