This bait is my go to, works mostly under trees or near vegetation, downed trees etc. my favorite color for it is blue, green works as well. I'd say the best way to use it is to mimic a dragonfly that fell in the water. The vibrations are key, you just stay in 1 spot shaking your pole keep those vibrations consistent to a struggling insect, you will get a strike.
Bought one last week! Couldn’t wait to use it. Well 15 cast 10 blow ups and 5 fish, lure was toast! Unfortunately the silicone wings are not secure in the body and rip out very easily on hits! But I love it, just a design flaw.
put a dab of super glue on legs to body and no problem. it catches fish
I have success in WI with them for bass.
After a few uses and some fish, it will fade some.
I used a sharpie to re color it back in a bit and also make it appear more lifelike on the bottom side.
I noticed a way better success rate after making the blank underside appear more realistic right away.
Another secret- when a dragonfly lands on water, you can see how the water almost vibrates and makes tons of rings.
I'll cast, sit 20-30, kinda vibrate my arm really fast so the energy transfers into the dragonfly and makes that crazy ring effect, pause, jerk jerk jerk jerk pause, vibrate, jerk jerk jerk etc until you're lures back.
Last tip, I push up the tail so it kinda hooks upwards and the tip of the hooks just a slight bit into the abdomen.
Tight Line y'all!
Your biggest problem is you were moving the bait way too fast. It isn't a lure that draws strikes from its action, it is about the profile. Make a cast and let it sit until the rings disappear and then a twitch, it shouldn't be moved more than a few inches at a time, not a foot or two.
I just used it playing it aggressively and the bass were loving it. Guess it just depends on your day/night. They do work better at dusk than in the day though
In Georgia, the dragonfly's lay their eggs on the water - bass crush the dragonflies.
You should go to the manufacturer's website and look at how to rig it. It will end your issues with straightening the bait all the time. It also makes it set much more efficiently....
Are there lures that bass won't eat?
Lot of flies I seen while fishing were most dark colors. Some light green and some metallic blues. U think the idea needs to evolve some and no doubt will pay off in the future.
Hi Dan, good review. I looked at those when they want introduced, but didn't buy. You should take a look at Lunker City, Salade Spoon, been using them for a number of years. In Del. ponds they work well. Fish it like a frog, 30lb braid with 30lb floro leader and 4/0 twist lock. Reel it slow to avoid twist or roll, no keel weight.
Will have to order and do an episode on these...pretty interesting
Why would you have thought, using a baitcaster setup was a good idea??
using a baitcast
That is some hot weather! Nice bass! New to your channel, catch you on the next one 👊
Thank you for the sub....waiting for the heat wave to break....should be out in a couple days getting the lines wet again
Need help with my Dragonfly do i tie it on or can i use a wire leader. When i throw it it sinks a little bit am thinking its the wire leader
Wire leader is definitely sinking it
Yeah you need straight monofilament or braid line
It sinks every now and then no matter what because of the shape. Just fished with it for about 5 hours. Keep using it and you'll learn the trick. If it sinks, pull up a bit but not too hard. It should skim well on top if you balance it right
Maybe you can put a lighter wayed swimbate hook but i think that the dragon fly is more to catch fishermen
great video and review!
Thank you
That’s a dope lure
Maybe give it a go early morning or late evening.....nice review
Bobby Swain Thank you
Mine looks like crap. Like someone use it then returned it
I have 2 and 1 of mine mos def looks used
Sweet
Glue the head to the hook
That's dumb..a bass will hit anything disturbing the top water..
