You’re so right about the payoff. This series DEFINITELY taught me something about patience, lol. I love that Gideon influenced your D&D character! She has impacted me in so many ways. I gushed about her in my videos on this series too and how refreshing it was to see a butch queer woman who’s super strong and confident in her appearance and also is fucking hilarious and down to earth and has no idea what’s going on half the time. Like, relatable and also I want to be her so bad. Harrow was honestly the most impressive book I’ve ever read in terms of narration and story structure. I intentionally spoiled myself due to being really uncomfortable with the confusion lol but even so, I was still SO awed by how she pulled it off. Loved hearing your thoughts, so excited to see what happens in Alecto!
I read and listened to Gideon at the same time and it was absolutely perfect for helping me differentiate characters and get a good sense of their personalities. I’m on Harrow now and loving it even if I am super confused at the moment. but I just know it’s worth it!! I think i’m going to be the same as you and beg all my friends to read it
Great video, so much of what you said hit the nail on the head , phrases like “ taking over my life “ and “ bread crumbs” really resonated with my own experience of these books. I’ve never obsessively re read a series before, but I’m still finding new breadcrumbs and enjoyment each time , while in awe of the mind this came from. I so agree with your thoughts on John , some readers don’t seem so enamoured by him , but I think him & his back story are brilliant. There’s so many , but my latest breadcrumb from Nona is “ what is behind the two part message ( and two part identity ) of the Aim ?? Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Totally right about everything! One of the best collection of books I've read so far. If you haven't already I would recommend the writing of Mark Lawrence, particularly the trilogies that start with Red Sister, and The Girl and the Stars. He started a new trilogy recently with The Book that Wouldn't Burn and it's perhaps the most profound material I've had the joy of reading, I'm anticipating its 2nd installment every bit as much as I am Alecto the Ninth. Thanks for sharing your elation!
I hope you'll be happy to hear that it was you who convinced me to give Gideon a second chance after really not jiving with it on my first read. And now I'm OBSESSED, I binged those books like nobody's business. I am soooo in awe of Muir's storytelling abilities, I would sell my soul to get the chance to pick her mind. Also, I am that person who just lurkes on the sidelines of the fandom, because I feel too dumb to actually come up with any of my own theories, lmao. And heck yes, John is fascinating!!! Loved this video, keep spreading the love 😍
One of my favorite things is seeing a creator whose work and taste I admire gushing about a book or series. I’m not sure when or if I will get to these tbh, but your enthusiasm for the book is certainly giving me something to think about here. Great video Jordan - and feel better!
I listened to the audio books and I think they are books better read than listened to. Or, have a copy of the physical to reference often because there is a lot that can be missed, and a lot of names thrown around (mainly in Gideon for the first read). I loved Nona though, because she loves me.
I always recommend people read them physically for their first read through just because there's so much that can be missed, but the audiobooks are also masterpieces, and I have listened to each of them at least once, if not twice. Moira Quirk is incredible.
I should look into this series. I've heard a lot of people say the 2nd person perspective scared them off, a few months ago I read Adrian Tchaikovsky's novella Ogres which is written almost entirely, if not entirely, in the 2nd person, which I really enjoy reading. Plus I'm usually a fan of genre-blending.
The 2nd person perspective is only in the second book I believe, and not for the entire book. And the reason for it is very important to the story! I typically like 2nd person, like The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin.
I came here because I keep hearing about this but I've read up to the point where Gideon leaves the (9th planet?) and am SO confused. I'm normally not confused at all. I'm wondering if it's because I'm listening as an audio reader, so I'm considering picking it up physically. BUT I am glad to hear that it's normal to be confused at first.
Yes!!! You’ll probably be confused most of the book tbh. I would definitely recommend reading physically if that’s an option for your first time. It helps some for sure!
Finished Nona the ninth yesterday and I love the series so much, I'm so excited for whenever Alecto will be coming out I listened to the books to start with and I adore the audio books but I also want to get the books physically at some point so I can get a bit better if a grasp on them as I had a bit of trouble keeping up with everything going on in Nona especially until then though I think I might just relisten to them

I’m DYING for Alecto. I always love finding another locked tomb fan!!
My sister got me into this series - they're dense and gorgeous and tough to chew, but the characters are so good that I get pulled more into the plot.
They’re sooooo engaging.

I wish i could read harrow for the first time again 😞
@@jordanreads I finished Nona and I want to erase my memory and read it all again 🥲
@@megthebookworm I would sacrifice a limb to read this series again for the first time.
I also listened to them! Moira Quirk does SUCH a beautiful job with the characterization.

Thank you Russ! I’m so excited for Alecto!
Can’t wait for the 4th book. My D&D character is a necromancer called Narrow the Ninth. Another player plays my cavalier, and we argue all the time.
NARROW THE NINTH TOOK ME OUT.

I’ve read the book that wouldn’t burn and loved it! Excited to get to the sequel. I haven’t read red sister though!
