Finally _Robin has most heart breaking backstory ever period _now i don't want any straw hat to die but in one piece climax if someone like Robin dies like after fulfilling her role or in process it will be an IMPACT. It shows that she didn't trust them fully and she didn't see herself as part of the crew. After Enies Lobby she starts using their proper names and also allows herself to be herself and an actual part of the crew.

I think Oda is purposely letting Robin fade into the background, until he ready to bring her back to the forefront again which I think will likely be in the arc after Wano because by that time, I suspect Luffy and the Strawhats will of obtained their third road glif and somehow Black Bread will likely learn of this fact and come a seeking her to try and get her to share her knowledge but at the same time the World Groverment comes a calling again with CP0, prehaps the openning battle to the final war will be to decide who will have Nico Robin.

it is odd how the movies focus on a weird nami and luffy romance subplot that most likely wont be canon just like in bleach and naruto...why is that?...do the anime staff making these films just guess and not know how to read between the lines like its the english dub for digimon season 1 and they add lines of romance between sora and tai not originally in the film only to realize they don't end up together ..thats what it feels like

I agree that Oda is making it look that way with Robin. It's possible that the larger bits are less about the combat effectiveness, or sex appeal; and more about her opening up. Robin is now capable of doing embarassing things and putting herself at risk along side the others. I believe that she holds a message or question from Dragon and was tasked with knowing when the right time was to bring it up with Luffy or pursue it. Chopper needs to heal the world; and that requires finding the cure; Wano and Big Mom are part of step one along side the smile rejects and giant kids. Robin still needs a way to create the internet (lack of better words)... universal 2-way communication.
Good video. Yeah Robin has stagnated a bit. As you have said her fruit could be used more creatively plus she could use some armament haki then she'd be a monster.
I think she would benefit more from Observation Haki. Armament would be useful against slippery opponents like Logias but other than that, she has the range to kill or incapacitate someone without them ever realizing she was there. And since she can sprout limbs virtually anywhere, I think if she mastered reading movements or even seeing in the future, she'd be one of the biggest threats on the show
@@badguyriri6277 It is ridiculous the number of straw hats without haki. They don't measure up to Rodger's or WB's crew. Though am comparing them to finished products but they should show they can step up to that level.
@@syc2543 Well to be fair, the SHs who have haki were all trained by masters to some degree (although idk if you would call Ivankov a "master" per se lol). I don't know if Robin was formally "trained" in the Revolutionary Army, but everyone else were kinda sent to random places that just happened to match their skill set. They're gonna have to figure haki out like Usopp did in Dressrosa due to lack of guidance in that area
I love how getting the One Piece is actually impossible without her. Like you'd think "oh well other people can decipher them; how else did Gold Roger get it" well guess what they were in cahoots with her dead mom. The Yonko keep Road Poneglyphs from each other but ultimately even if one of them got them all they'd never decipher them within their lifetime without Robin. I find this so great because back in Water 7, the Straw Hats weren't getting her back because they need her. They didn't even know she would be that vital down the road, but even if they did, I'm sure Luffy would've tried to get her back for the original reason of friendship. And if you go back even further to Alabasta, Luffy saved her life, again not knowing that she was vital to his life goal, but he also didn't know that she would befriend him later. As far as he was concerned, she would probably continue to be a threat just like Crocodile.

Since she decided to join the Straw hats, Robin has been my favorite character. I love her Devil fruit power and dark sense of humor. So it's sad to me that Oda doesn't do much with her anymore. I'm hoping she's more than just a background Character during Wano.

Can we say that her arc is finished, though? The truth about the World Government, the poneglyphs and everything, is the very reason Ohara was destroyed. It's not gonna be random trivia to her, or even just "the realization of her dream", it's the true face of the thing that caused her so much pain and suffering that we are moving towards. I don't think we can ever learn about it without Robin been affected or taking action in a big way. Not mentioning that she's obviously the key for everybody hoping to reach Raftel and One Piece, so I doubt she'll be overlooked going forward.
Yes for the leather jacket, it fits her well ! I'm a big fan of Robin and I agree with you, I hope oda 's got big surprise in store for this peculliar and dark character. She is my favourite with Zorro.
Her using the giantess powers comes from her admiration of Luffy, since fear 3 giant’s fist is what Luffy used to save her in Enis Lobby. And it’s not that Oda washed her character out, the point is she is now comfortable with the crew and we feel that comfort through the show. Her getting comfortable and accepting that she has friends who would fight for her is such an important part of her character and I think it is incorrect to fault the character for arriving there.
I love how she was more than just a typical princess in distress waiting for her prince to save her (kind of like mario). Her past and overall story makes her one of the best characters in one piece.
I feel Like Robin's Character is needed, someone that connects Luffy and the crew to the World Government and the real problems of the world. I honestly sadden that she has been in the background, a supporting character to the arcs in terms of battles. If she is really the only person who can read the ancient language, then how come she hasn't been shining. The amount of her bounty is small to the threat she has to the World Gov't, She hasn't spoken of her time with the revolutionaries, and so many things can happen in 2 years with Luffy's dad. She also lost her assassin/dangerous aura as she has in the pre-time. I really enjoy your review of Robin.
When Robin was first intruduced i hated her character i was like "ugh i cant believe shes joining Luffys crew" but before even the water 7 arc she was one of my favorite characters because i realized how cool her character is shes freaking awesome

I enjoyed your video. But when I seen you have made a vid about Robin I was "Oh boy! In depth analys like Luffy's and zoro's!" And I feel you have missed the chance to talk about the history of One Piece, and it's importance. In Alabasta she tell Crocodile about history that bore him to rage mode. He and most of the world, only care about history for the physical benefits. Robin and Ohara represent the opposite way of looking at history, and almost dont understand nor care. Something like that. But you are smarter then me, so you could explain it better

Tbh I don't think her character has faded at all. When she s first introduced like She seems cool like Katakuri but I think that the Robin she is now is the Robin she s always been inside. What s amazing is that yeah she is that powerful and a huge threat to everyone however she seems like she is living in the moment. Something that she doesn't get to do since she was child. So you see alot of her goofyness . I also get a sense that she already seen ahead of the rest of the crew already but she doesn't want to spoil their fun and or rather she embraces the adventure.
A little bit dissapointed when i saw the thumbnail not having the same style as the rest, but after i checked the source they only drew SH until Chopper:( Still 100% fire content, Robin is the most important person in the world right now. I still can not believe how she's not having the biggest bounty in the crowd.
Because her powers are op. She could take on Sanji and Zoro with her powers. Seriously, who would she fight? She defeated the guy from Skypia in 2 seconds after she stopped running.
Tbh she did have other fights but they weren't "full on" fights. No fight in Enies Lobby (unless breaking Spandam's spine counts), Thriller Bark - working with Chopper to fight Zoro and Sanji's zombies, fighting against Oars with the other SHs. Sabaody - fighting against the Pacifista. Fishman Island - Hammond (only other real 1v1). Punk Hazard - slightly against Monet? Dressrosa - caught Hakuba and I think she fought against Gladius slightly? Engaged Sugar and Trebol. Wano - fighting against those ninja guys.
Hello *Ohara.* I must say, this is a well done video about my very personal favorite character in One Piece and the fact your name profile is dedicated to her former home. I fell in love with her even if she was the antagonist, then later shown she was a good person with strong insecurities. I really felt curious listening to her talk about history, the value of the ancient cities, the messages by the Poneglyphs, and what could they all mean together.
Robin is too powerful for the One Piece story. If she had a mind to, she could easily fight at the level of the male crew members of the Straw Hats. (I don't think the Shōnen fan-base could handle that.) In the near future, I would like to see her take the role as a strategist for the crew and the Straw Hat armada.
@@tulip5210 She could never be stronger than Luffy. Her body and haki would need to become incredibly powerful to be able to withstand any attack, or inflict any pain on Luffy, and she is just not that kind of fighter. Not only that, but her clutches would be completely useless on Luffy, since he is rubber and would just bend, similar to what happened when she tried it on that octopus fishman from Foxy's crew.
No she isnt and she wont be because her fruit isnt going to be over powering unless she deicates her self to physical training like zoro or something which is kinda to late to do at this point in the story and the stuff she is pulling off were her fruit currently wouldnt be as impressive as she wouldnt be dedicating herself to training it anymore. Her limbs arent going to become strong enough to deal with people very quickly and spawning them in is just going to make massive targets.while haki could help ultimatly she can just spawn every arm with haki or else she would run of it in like less than a minute with how draining it is

When you go back and watch Alabasta arc again you can see that Robin deciding to join Luffy was an easy choice. The scene where she realizes Luffy is a 'D' especially makes more sense.
I think that Robin's story isn't completely over, when we finally get to Laugh tale, Robin will come out of the back ground and become one of the more important characters of that arc

I love Nico Robin, she is definitely my favorite character in this series, everything about her characters past and foreshadowing is just absolutely perfect in my honest opinion.
I've been waiting for this. This was overall an enjoyable analysis on Robin. You really emphasized what makes her such a great character, but I have to disagree with your criticisms of Post-Timeskip Robin. Getting emotionally invested in the conflict of Dressrosa due to relating to Viola, interacting and bantering with the grand fleet characters, Jinbei and Law and the Grand Fleet, putting her life on the line to protect Rebecca, instigating the "What nice warm clothes" moment when her group robbed Brownbeard's Patrol Unit of their coats and joking with Luffy about their past as enemies during Punk Hazard, her speech about her faith in Luffy, her general demenear when it comes to the other Strawhats, etc. Plenty of new things have been brought to the table with her character after the timeskip, they just aren't as grand as some shadowy past with the World Government. Also, like so many others I think you really exaggerated about how much Robin smiles (and also about the hat, which was just for 1 arc, lol). Yes she smiles a lot, but she also shows more expressions and emotions. You said Robin didn't do anything in Dressrosa, but she played a role in Law getting his handcuffs unlocked and also helped take down one of Doflamingo's Chief Executives. However, I'm confused as to the criticism about her not doing anything in Whole Cake Island since she wasn't even apart of that arc. As for Post-TS Robin's abilities, while I agree with you that there is definitely so many interesting ways Oda could have her use her DF in battle, I don't see what's wrong her giant feet attack. She wasn't attacking aimlessly, she was attacking a big group of enemies. Personally, I think she's hiding even stronger abilities that we haven't seen yet. But other than that, a really good analysis.

I honestly agree! I haven’t found A SINGLE lady (IRL) as beautiful and as caring as her (actually I’ve read so many Comic Books, Manga, and etc, but no one beats her in terms of “love”), not with her type of personality at least. Waifu😍😍
So much of the post time-skip feels like lesser than the pre time-skip to me, and this is one of the big sticking points for me. I don't understand why Oda keeps giving so much time in each arc to all so many new conjured side characters that often have little depth, while ignoring the Main Characters.
Even though he might be an open book to you, he isnt to the other characters. We saw his backstory in a flashback, but we never saw him describing his past to the crew. He would only talk about "a promise" and of course he mentioned "an old friend" when meeting Tashigi the first time.

Mysterious is probably not the right word as I doubt Zoro himself is hiding anything about his past, but even if he doesn't know about it there are some secrets hidden there.
Not so much about the style because she looks amazing, but I really hated the whitewashing, I never saw anyone mention it but pre-timeskip Robin is not white, in fact her skin color is brown and it was an amazing look that added to the diversity in the Mugiwaras and made her stand out more, after the timeskip she is white for no reason. I will never understand why they did that
@@Graziopp That is what the people behind the anime did. Robin was white/pale and continues to be white. The tanned Robin you knew is basically fan fiction that they ultimately corrected.

I actually like what they did with robin's character. Hers is a character that doesn't want to be in the foreground, she wants to be in the background researching and reading a book. After an entire life filled with danger and sadness it makes me so happy whenever I see her smiling in the background through anything going on. She deserves the happiness she's experiencing right now and I wouldn't want it any other way.
What if Robin is purposely hiding her true devil fruit abilities and haki to stay more in the background. Since if people realized her true power it would increase the target on her back and this way it makes people underestimate her so she has a better chance to get out of any situation
I see your point in that, after the Dressrosa events when her bounty got a bit higher she was the only one who wasn't soo happy about it, indeed she said 'oh no, it went up.....' so I think she doesn't want to showcase her full potential because that would mean a higher bounty and she sure as hell lived a life with a bounty on her head since she was young. It might be a reason too why jer bounty was the same until she started to work with the Strawhats..
That makes sense, it wouldn't be the first time in her life Robin has to try her hardest to be forgotten her ability to do so probably is the reason she's still alive at that time. Since after the time skip she's now associated with Strawhats AND the Revolution it would be logic that she tries 10 times harder to not get spotted (espescially since they're starting "fighting" Yonkos they really don't want the marine chasing them)

I think you’re overthinking things. For one thing, the cast of characters in One Piece is massive. Like A Song of Ice and Fire or Wheel of Time massive. It’s impossible for even someone as important as Robin to be in the spotlight for as long as you seem to be expecting them to be, unless they’re the actual main protagonist or antagonist. For another, being in the spotlight that much just isn’t in her character. She’s an archeologist by nature, and an assassin by necessity. She’s one of the movers and shakers from behind the scenes. The power behind the throne, as opposed to the one sitting on it, pretty much as you said. Honestly, I’m pretty sure that the only reason she used such a dramatic attack during the battle with the New Fishmen pirates was because they all needed to be extremely flashy to match the show they were putting on.I believe that when it’s time for her to take a major place on the world stage again, it’ll be suitably amazing and fit her personality perfectly.
I agree with you on that. But my point was less toward her having more fights or active action, but rather a new development arc. That doesn´t have to be in the spotlight, but can still be integrated in the scenes she appears anyhow. Both the wheel of time AND ASOIAF manage to do that with most of their massive cast, even if they don´t get too much "spotlight action", don´t you think?
@@Ohara-the-Fox We had 2 Sanji Arcs, around 800 episodes from each other. I think she haa another mayor arc coming, they have the road poniegliphs from Big mom, they will get one in Wano. I'm pretty sure that the next arc will bring her up front. And about her powers, OP has shown that the fruit serves the user, Robin has never needed big flashi attacks as she moved from the shadows where her cluch was the best choice. We have seen her push forward, try nee things, like with her wings that were made up when she was already with the crew, the big hands and legs that also came out when she joined, prob thanks to Luffys influence. I see her powers evolving into something subtle, like making actual copys of herself or even fully making a giant body. Remember we might visit Elbaf, that will feature Usopp but it would be a fun surprise.
I think Oda has a brilliant future for Robin in the next arcs, and I think the childness of her attacks comes from the fall of her wall towards trusting people and letting herself live the childhood she couldn't have before. I also think that the misterious vibe of Robin is somewhat intact because we really don't know what did she do with the rebelion or for them, maybe the things will unfold soon and we could get that dangerous Robin we all love
Love the video! Keep the great work coming. I think it is very difficult to give all the characters a lot of detail and time. I think Oda doesn't touch a character a lot unless he feels confident, the story will push the character a lot and is meaningful. That said, I think she will come back strong. Also that black leather outfit is my favorite of hers.
This was really fascinating. Great analysis of such beautiful character in my opinion. Im glad you pointed out her lack of major engagement in the story. Interesting character like her should receive more screen time and a better role to play in the events of post time skip than just to be basically a poster girl for straw hats. She is so much more than a pretty face, I strongly hope Oda will make her shine once more later on (In Wano maybe?) I think that you glossed over 1 moment in the New World that will probably set her up to become important again: Nekomamushi talked about how pirates are going to want to have Nico Robin. This fits in perfectly with the consensus that Robin is going to get a huge bounty after Wano since Luffy would be (nearly) as strong as a yonko. So her kidnapping is probably coming back, and will probably be the reason for taking down Blackbeard or Big Mom.

Once again a great video. I really love how neatly these character analysis videos tie everything we know about them together. And in such a stylistic fashion as well! I am excited for the next one as I always am. Could you tell me if you plan on O ly doing the StrawHats or are you gonna do some other major characters once you finished them?
Robin is my second favorite character, after Bentham, but only the pre-time skip version. I still think she has some potential, but her whole personality just seems to have collapsed. She just seems so bland. Granted, she deserves peace and happiness, but she no longer seems, well, smart. I'm hoping when we find out what she was up to with the revolutionaries it will bring some personality back to her. She used to be interested in history as a whole, not just the poneglyphs, and I feel like we've barely seen that at all.
I think Robin has perhaps had the most character development out of all the Straw Hats. Post-time skip we have seen a different side to her character rather than one dimensional dark demeanor that was so prevalent pre-time skip. Only problem is post-time skip the focus of the story on the whole has been slightly more on Luffy and the character interaction(and their personal quests) of the Straw Hat crew as a whole has been lacking.(which is somewhat understandable given the fact that there are so many characters in play). What I would specifically like to see in Wano is Robin engaged in a fight maybe a one on one fight which will allow her to display her wits. Poneglyphs are the only object in One Piece world which reveal true history so its understandable that she is more interested in them.
I agree post time skip robin is boring af and doesn't standout in any kind of form. I asked this under a different comment but why tf did she also change color after the time skip. Granted she was in a snow country and could have lost some color but now shes just simply white.
Outside of me loving her character, 8:13 - 8:20 & 10:48 - 11:02 is also why Oda needs to give her a power boost (not that I'm one dimensional and is all about powers) because she's the most dangerous to a lot of the big shots in the story. She can not fully rely on Luffy all the time. That's too much strain on him, and the same goes for the rest of the crew. She needs to be able to handle herself when need be. She's such an underrated character. Btw, love your analysis. Not only is is spot on, and I love how deep you dove into her character, but I love the visuals you used throughout the video and paired them up in reference to the points you were making.
I think oda playability safe with Robin cause she has the potential to be stupidly powerful. Imagine her with the colour of arms n then her ability- it'd be insane. We also still know barely anything about what the strawhats did during the 2 year skip. Yes we know where they were but we know little about the details. Especially in Robins case I am convinced this'll be a major point soon (she never even mentioned that she met luffys Dad or that she was with the Rev army etc ). I think the moment the Rev army becomes a major plot point Robins position will be centre again
id love to see robins archaeologist skills more. i mean thats her roll in the crew. it would be nic eto make her or of a detective roll where her knowledge or archaeology, governtments and underworld would help in gathering intel and figuring out the villains plot.

@Dxrk Zoom i think theres a difference between genuine interest based on curiosity and simply wish to know "just because", and having an interest in something because you think/know you can utilise it for whatever purpose you wish to use it for. robin is the former, blackbeard is more like the latter.

Dragon, and that Robin is now affiliated with Dragon's revolutionary army. In a way, I like to think she has at least one, if not two dragons to support her when necessary. I enjoyed very much the 1st few hundred episodes, but OP became much too dragged out like a telenovela/daytime soap opera over time. It shows that she didn't trust them fully and she didn't see herself as part of the crew. After Enies Lobby she starts using their proper names and also allows herself to be herself and an actual part of the crew.

I think Oda is purposely letting Robin fade into the background, until he ready to bring her back to the forefront again which I think will likely be in the arc after Wano because by that time, I suspect Luffy and the Strawhats will of obtained their third road glif and somehow Black Bread will likely learn of this fact and come a seeking her to try and get her to share her knowledge but at the same time the World Groverment comes a calling again with CP0, prehaps the openning battle to the final war will be to decide who will have Nico Robin.

it is odd how the movies focus on a weird nami and luffy romance subplot that most likely wont be canon just like in bleach and naruto...why is that?...do the anime staff making these films just guess and not know how to read between the lines like its the english dub for digimon season 1 and they add lines of romance between sora and tai not originally in the film only to realize they don't end up together ..thats what it feels like

I agree that Oda is making it look that way with Robin. It's possible that the larger bits are less about the combat effectiveness, or sex appeal; and more about her opening up.
Robin is now capable of doing embarassing things and putting herself at risk along side the others.
I believe that she holds a message or question from Dragon and was tasked with knowing when the right time was to bring it up with Luffy or pursue it.
Chopper needs to heal the world; and that requires finding the cure; Wano and Big Mom are part of step one along side the smile rejects and giant kids.
Robin still needs a way to create the internet (lack of better words)... universal 2-way communication.
Good video. Yeah Robin has stagnated a bit. As you have said her fruit could be used more creatively plus she could use some armament haki then she'd be a monster.
I think she would benefit more from Observation Haki. Armament would be useful against slippery opponents like Logias but other than that, she has the range to kill or incapacitate someone without them ever realizing she was there. And since she can sprout limbs virtually anywhere, I think if she mastered reading movements or even seeing in the future, she'd be one of the biggest threats on the show

@@syc2543 Well to be fair, the SHs who have haki were all trained by masters to some degree (although idk if you would call Ivankov a "master" per se lol). I don't know if Robin was formally "trained" in the Revolutionary Army, but everyone else were kinda sent to random places that just happened to match their skill set. They're gonna have to figure haki out like Usopp did in Dressrosa due to lack of guidance in that area
I love how getting the One Piece is actually impossible without her. Like you'd think "oh well other people can decipher them; how else did Gold Roger get it" well guess what they were in cahoots with her dead mom. The Yonko keep Road Poneglyphs from each other but ultimately even if one of them got them all they'd never decipher them within their lifetime without Robin.
I find this so great because back in Water 7, the Straw Hats weren't getting her back because they need her. They didn't even know she would be that vital down the road, but even if they did, I'm sure Luffy would've tried to get her back for the original reason of friendship.
And if you go back even further to Alabasta, Luffy saved her life, again not knowing that she was vital to his life goal, but he also didn't know that she would befriend him later. As far as he was concerned, she would probably continue to be a threat just like Crocodile.

Since she decided to join the Straw hats, Robin has been my favorite character. I love her Devil fruit power and dark sense of humor. So it's sad to me that Oda doesn't do much with her anymore. I'm hoping she's more than just a background Character during Wano.

The truth about the World Government, the poneglyphs and everything, is the very reason Ohara was destroyed. It's not gonna be random trivia to her, or even just "the realization of her dream", it's the true face of the thing that caused her so much pain and suffering that we are moving towards. I don't think we can ever learn about it without Robin been affected or taking action in a big way.
Not mentioning that she's obviously the key for everybody hoping to reach Raftel and One Piece, so I doubt she'll be overlooked going forward.
Yes for the leather jacket, it fits her well ! I'm a big fan of Robin and I agree with you, I hope oda 's got big surprise in store for this peculliar and dark character. She is my favourite with Zorro.
Her using the giantess powers comes from her admiration of Luffy, since fear 3 giant’s fist is what Luffy used to save her in Enis Lobby. And it’s not that Oda washed her character out, the point is she is now comfortable with the crew and we feel that comfort through the show. Her getting comfortable and accepting that she has friends who would fight for her is such an important part of her character and I think it is incorrect to fault the character for arriving there.
I love how she was more than just a typical princess in distress waiting for her prince to save her (kind of like mario). Her past and overall story makes her one of the best characters in one piece.
I feel Like Robin's Character is needed, someone that connects Luffy and the crew to the World Government and the real problems of the world. I honestly sadden that she has been in the background, a supporting character to the arcs in terms of battles. If she is really the only person who can read the ancient language, then how come she hasn't been shining. The amount of her bounty is small to the threat she has to the World Gov't, She hasn't spoken of her time with the revolutionaries, and so many things can happen in 2 years with Luffy's dad. She also lost her assassin/dangerous aura as she has in the pre-time. I really enjoy your review of Robin.
When Robin was first intruduced i hated her character i was like "ugh i cant believe shes joining Luffys crew" but before even the water 7 arc she was one of my favorite characters because i realized how cool her character is shes freaking awesome

He and most of the world, only care about history for the physical benefits.

Tbh I don't think her character has faded at all. When she s first introduced like She seems cool like Katakuri but I think that the Robin she is now is the Robin she s always been inside. What s amazing is that yeah she is that powerful and a huge threat to everyone however she seems like she is living in the moment. Something that she doesn't get to do since she was child. So you see alot of her goofyness . I also get a sense that she already seen ahead of the rest of the crew already but she doesn't want to spoil their fun and or rather she embraces the adventure.

Tbh she did have other fights but they weren't "full on" fights. No fight in Enies Lobby (unless breaking Spandam's spine counts), Thriller Bark - working with Chopper to fight Zoro and Sanji's zombies, fighting against Oars with the other SHs. Sabaody - fighting against the Pacifista. Fishman Island - Hammond (only other real 1v1). Punk Hazard - slightly against Monet? Dressrosa - caught Hakuba and I think she fought against Gladius slightly? Engaged Sugar and Trebol. Wano - fighting against those ninja guys.
Hello *Ohara.* I must say, this is a well done video about my very personal favorite character in One Piece and the fact your name profile is dedicated to her former home.
I fell in love with her even if she was the antagonist, then later shown she was a good person with strong insecurities. I really felt curious listening to her talk about history, the value of the ancient cities, the messages by the Poneglyphs, and what could they all mean together.
Robin is too powerful for the One Piece story. If she had a mind to, she could easily fight at the level of the male crew members of the Straw Hats. (I don't think the Shōnen fan-base could handle that.) In the near future, I would like to see her take the role as a strategist for the crew and the Straw Hat armada.
I think in the new world, she should have been handled.
But.. yeah

Her body and haki would need to become incredibly powerful to be able to withstand any attack, or inflict any pain on Luffy, and she is just not that kind of fighter. Not only that, but her clutches would be completely useless on Luffy, since he is rubber and would just bend, similar to what happened when she tried it on that octopus fishman from Foxy's crew.

Her limbs arent going to become strong enough to deal with people very quickly and spawning them in is just going to make massive targets.while haki could help ultimatly she can just spawn every arm with haki or else she would run of it in like less than a minute with how draining it is

When you go back and watch Alabasta arc again you can see that Robin deciding to join Luffy was an easy choice. The scene where she realizes Luffy is a 'D' especially makes more sense.
I think that Robin's story isn't completely over, when we finally get to Laugh tale, Robin will come out of the back ground and become one of the more important characters of that arc
as Robin has gone undercover as a Geisha in Wano she is being developed more as a spy imo

I love Nico Robin, she is definitely my favorite character in this series, everything about her characters past and foreshadowing is just absolutely perfect in my honest opinion.

I've been waiting for this. This was overall an enjoyable analysis on Robin. You really emphasized what makes her such a great character, but I have to disagree with your criticisms of Post-Timeskip Robin.
Getting emotionally invested in the conflict of Dressrosa due to relating to Viola, interacting and bantering with the grand fleet characters, Jinbei and Law and the Grand Fleet, putting her life on the line to protect Rebecca, instigating the "What nice warm clothes" moment when her group robbed Brownbeard's Patrol Unit of their coats and joking with Luffy about their past as enemies during Punk Hazard, her speech about her faith in Luffy, her general demenear when it comes to the other Strawhats, etc. Plenty of new things have been brought to the table with her character after the timeskip, they just aren't as grand as some shadowy past with the World Government.
Also, like so many others I think you really exaggerated about how much Robin smiles (and also about the hat, which was just for 1 arc, lol). Yes she smiles a lot, but she also shows more expressions and emotions.
You said Robin didn't do anything in Dressrosa, but she played a role in Law getting his handcuffs unlocked and also helped take down one of Doflamingo's Chief Executives. However, I'm confused as to the criticism about her not doing anything in Whole Cake Island since she wasn't even apart of that arc.
As for Post-TS Robin's abilities, while I agree with you that there is definitely so many interesting ways Oda could have her use her DF in battle, I don't see what's wrong her giant feet attack. She wasn't attacking aimlessly, she was attacking a big group of enemies. Personally, I think she's hiding even stronger abilities that we haven't seen yet.
But other than that, a really good analysis.

So much of the post time-skip feels like lesser than the pre time-skip to me, and this is one of the big sticking points for me. I don't understand why Oda keeps giving so much time in each arc to all so many new conjured side characters that often have little depth, while ignoring the Main Characters.

Zoro isn't mysterious, just serious and only speaks when needed. He's a fairly open book.
how is he not mysterious we legit know hardly anything about his past. i think that was the point he was making.
Even though he might be an open book to you, he isnt to the other characters. We saw his backstory in a flashback, but we never saw him describing his past to the crew. He would only talk about "a promise" and of course he mentioned "an old friend" when meeting Tashigi the first time.

Mysterious is probably not the right word as I doubt Zoro himself is hiding anything about his past, but even if he doesn't know about it there are some secrets hidden there.

Not so much about the style because she looks amazing, but I really hated the whitewashing, I never saw anyone mention it but pre-timeskip Robin is not white, in fact her skin color is brown and it was an amazing look that added to the diversity in the Mugiwaras and made her stand out more, after the timeskip she is white for no reason. I will never understand why they did that
Grazio it’s bc she was in cold climates for two years her tan faded. I didn’t like it either but if you think about it story wise it makes sense
Grazio Robin’s skin was always pale in the manga even during pre-timeskip.

When Robin screamed at Ennis Lobbie, One Piece became more than an anime to me.
I really enjoyed the video, especially since I'm a huge fan of Robin! Also I do agree that she has one of the most amazing DFs in the whole series due to it's massive potential.

I actually like what they did with robin's character. Hers is a character that doesn't want to be in the foreground, she wants to be in the background researching and reading a book. After an entire life filled with danger and sadness it makes me so happy whenever I see her smiling in the background through anything going on. She deserves the happiness she's experiencing right now and I wouldn't want it any other way.
What if Robin is purposely hiding her true devil fruit abilities and haki to stay more in the background. Since if people realized her true power it would increase the target on her back and this way it makes people underestimate her so she has a better chance to get out of any situation

I see your point in that, after the Dressrosa events when her bounty got a bit higher she was the only one who wasn't soo happy about it, indeed she said 'oh no, it went up.....' so I think she doesn't want to showcase her full potential because that would mean a higher bounty and she sure as hell lived a life with a bounty on her head since she was young. It might be a reason too why jer bounty was the same until she started to work with the Strawhats..
That makes sense, it wouldn't be the first time in her life Robin has to try her hardest to be forgotten her ability to do so probably is the reason she's still alive at that time. Since after the time skip she's now associated with Strawhats AND the Revolution it would be logic that she tries 10 times harder to not get spotted (espescially since they're starting "fighting" Yonkos they really don't want the marine chasing them)
No I don't think she'd go as far as hiding her haki abilities as there were multiple instances where she could have used it to protect herself and her friends.

I think you’re overthinking things.
For one thing, the cast of characters in One Piece is massive. Like A Song of Ice and Fire or Wheel of Time massive. It’s impossible for even someone as important as Robin to be in the spotlight for as long as you seem to be expecting them to be, unless they’re the actual main protagonist or antagonist.
For another, being in the spotlight that much just isn’t in her character. She’s an archeologist by nature, and an assassin by necessity. She’s one of the movers and shakers from behind the scenes. The power behind the throne, as opposed to the one sitting on it, pretty much as you said. Honestly, I’m pretty sure that the only reason she used such a dramatic attack during the battle with the New Fishmen pirates was because they all needed to be extremely flashy to match the show they were putting on.I believe that when it’s time for her to take a major place on the world stage again, it’ll be suitably amazing and fit her personality perfectly.
I agree with you on that. But my point was less toward her having more fights or active action, but rather a new development arc. That doesn´t have to be in the spotlight, but can still be integrated in the scenes she appears anyhow. Both the wheel of time AND ASOIAF manage to do that with most of their massive cast, even if they don´t get too much "spotlight action", don´t you think?

I think she haa another mayor arc coming, they have the road poniegliphs from Big mom, they will get one in Wano. I'm pretty sure that the next arc will bring her up front.
And about her powers, OP has shown that the fruit serves the user, Robin has never needed big flashi attacks as she moved from the shadows where her cluch was the best choice.
We have seen her push forward, try nee things, like with her wings that were made up when she was already with the crew, the big hands and legs that also came out when she joined, prob thanks to Luffys influence.
I see her powers evolving into something subtle, like making actual copys of herself or even fully making a giant body. Remember we might visit Elbaf, that will feature Usopp but it would be a fun surprise.
I think Oda has a brilliant future for Robin in the next arcs, and I think the childness of her attacks comes from the fall of her wall towards trusting people and letting herself live the childhood she couldn't have before.
I also think that the misterious vibe of Robin is somewhat intact because we really don't know what did she do with the rebelion or for them, maybe the things will unfold soon and we could get that dangerous Robin we all love
Love the video! Keep the great work coming. I think it is very difficult to give all the characters a lot of detail and time. I think Oda doesn't touch a character a lot unless he feels confident, the story will push the character a lot and is meaningful. That said, I think she will come back strong. Also that black leather outfit is my favorite of hers.

This was really fascinating. Great analysis of such beautiful character in my opinion. Im glad you pointed out her lack of major engagement in the story. Interesting character like her should receive more screen time and a better role to play in the events of post time skip than just to be basically a poster girl for straw hats. She is so much more than a pretty face, I strongly hope Oda will make her shine once more later on (In Wano maybe?)

I think that you glossed over 1 moment in the New World that will probably set her up to become important again:
Nekomamushi talked about how pirates are going to want to have Nico Robin. This fits in perfectly with the consensus that Robin is going to get a huge bounty after Wano since Luffy would be (nearly) as strong as a yonko.
So her kidnapping is probably coming back, and will probably be the reason for taking down Blackbeard or Big Mom.
I tried to incorporate that in the part, where I talk about her enemies. With the other pirates I meant those interested in her knowledge. But I should have made that clearer, I agree!

Robin is my second favorite character, after Bentham, but only the pre-time skip version. I still think she has some potential, but her whole personality just seems to have collapsed. She just seems so bland. Granted, she deserves peace and happiness, but she no longer seems, well, smart. I'm hoping when we find out what she was up to with the revolutionaries it will bring some personality back to her. She used to be interested in history as a whole, not just the poneglyphs, and I feel like we've barely seen that at all.
I think Robin has perhaps had the most character development out of all the Straw Hats. Post-time skip we have seen a different side to her character rather than one dimensional dark demeanor that was so prevalent pre-time skip. Only problem is post-time skip the focus of the story on the whole has been slightly more on Luffy and the character interaction(and their personal quests) of the Straw Hat crew as a whole has been lacking.(which is somewhat understandable given the fact that there are so many characters in play). What I would specifically like to see in Wano is Robin engaged in a fight maybe a one on one fight which will allow her to display her wits. Poneglyphs are the only object in One Piece world which reveal true history so its understandable that she is more interested in them.
I agree post time skip robin is boring af and doesn't standout in any kind of form. I asked this under a different comment but why tf did she also change color after the time skip. Granted she was in a snow country and could have lost some color but now shes just simply white.
Robin's character arc isn't over, trust me. I think Oda is saving it for the future.

Outside of me loving her character, 8:13 - 8:20 & 10:48 - 11:02 is also why Oda needs to give her a power boost (not that I'm one dimensional and is all about powers) because she's the most dangerous to a lot of the big shots in the story. She can not fully rely on Luffy all the time. That's too much strain on him, and the same goes for the rest of the crew. She needs to be able to handle herself when need be. She's such an underrated character.

I think oda playability safe with Robin cause she has the potential to be stupidly powerful. Imagine her with the colour of arms n then her ability- it'd be insane.
We also still know barely anything about what the strawhats did during the 2 year skip.
Yes we know where they were but we know little about the details. Especially in Robins case I am convinced this'll be a major point soon (she never even mentioned that she met luffys Dad or that she was with the Rev army etc ).
I think the moment the Rev army becomes a major plot point Robins position will be centre again
id love to see robins archaeologist skills more. i mean thats her roll in the crew. it would be nic eto make her or of a detective roll where her knowledge or archaeology, governtments and underworld would help in gathering intel and figuring out the villains plot.

Unless we consider the fact her captain, Monkey D. Luffy, is the son of Monkey D. Dragon, and that Robin is now affiliated with Dragon's revolutionary army. In a way, I like to think she has at least one, if not two dragons to support her when necessary. One of the most wanted people in the world indeed.

Your breakdowns are fascinating for a show I only had a mild interest in. I enjoyed very much the 1st few hundred episodes, but OP became much too dragged out like a telenovela/daytime soap opera over time.
Though perhaps that is to be expected given its advent antagonist nature.
But your effots, approach, verbal tone, tempo, delivery and steadfast dedication to passion have pulled me back in. Additionally your linguistic fascination with Japan is also a positive which I share as a formerV/O and hope to master.
