      I’m sure happy this could help you, most of the mechanics of the song are there but not TEs nuances

    Thanks Ed, your lessons are the best on line. I've been playing for over 50 years and have only recently started to learn some Tommy Emmanuel tunes. Your method of teaching is great - You help unravel the tricks and techniques that make this music inspiring, beautiful and complicated. Many thanks (PS, wife bought tickets to do a tour of the Maton factory in Melbourne in a couple of weeks - looking forward to it), cheers, Dave Reid

    Truly a magnificent tune ! as are virtually ALL of TE's arrangements/songs. I've been working on this one a while & can finally play it pretty smoothly in a bit of a modified/my own way. It really took some effort, I've been playing for 40+ years but never played with a thumb pick nor in this "boom chick"/Nashville finger/thumb picking style. Had I already been at least a little familiar with that particular style I might have came a bit easier. Anyway, You are more fluent in it than me, but I'm quite sure from the true fire tut vids of his on this tune that I seen & just via ear of ANY of his other performances of it, that you need to double up on the frequency/speed of those D octaves in the verses, if you know what I mean, like @ 5.30 there is no pause in the bass, the octaves are played(twice as often) over the 2 highest notes too. I only mention it because I just think its pretty important to be as faithful to the song as possible & I was doing the same exact thing at 1st. It creates a very interesting alternating timing syncopation when you finally get it. btw as I'm sure you know almost ANY of his songs have so many little subtle nuances/dynamics & things that hardly anybody plays them 100% accurate, even Tommy himself changes them up from performance to performance. However, what I'm referring to is a slightly more basic thing so I thought it was worth mentioning. Anyway It takes quite a bit of skill & courage to post a TE TUT...... so.....Nice job ! & Thanks for the very useful content.

    Hey Ed, I found a way around having to stretch the index finger all the way to the third fret at the start of the verse. I just use my index and middle finger for the chord and slide my little finger up to the 8th fret and use that instead. it works all the way down the neck for the rest of that lick as well. Thanks for the lesson. Best on out there.

      Hi Bryce,
      from capo. positions 5th string B to Bb, 6th string F# to E, G, G, F#, F, E to open A
      hope this helps. Ed

      +MrGibbyguy what strings is your thumb hitting ? is it like a back and forth between the E and D string ?

    • @MrGibbyguy
      @MrGibbyguy  8 лет назад

      Hi Brice, Yes when playing the Bm shape then the F#/Bb shape play Alternating bass from the 5th to 4th strings. Then when next shape is D2/F# Alternating bass from 6th string to 4th string through the rest to the Em7 shape. Once the open 4th string (D) comes in to play - that is the constant through all this alternating bass line to the Em7.
