Waking up next to the Grand Canyon and getting to ride John's bike, it was pretty much a perfect day :) HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! I hope that you all have a great start to 2022
I was thinking the very same thing. Quite the excellent ambassador for Canada. (Not that they need it or anything.) That said, Ryan's doing an excellent job representing this shabby group south of the Canadian border!!!
Watching this is bittersweet. I just lost my canine bike touring companion of 17 years. Our last big trip was solo fully-loaded from Nordkapp Norway to SE Sicily (some 8000kms). I've never toured without her, but I did think I'd like to try bikepacking when she was no longer with me (a bit to bumpy for her in the past). It wasn't always easy to bike with my Murph, and it could be terribly restrictive, but I'll miss her like hell whatever kind of travelling I do in the future. it'll never be the same. Bless John and Mira.
I love that you are investing in character development, letting us get to know John and Mira. What a great lifelong friend you’ve found! On a side note: I’ve wanted to try the UV filters but man, I’m nervous. Ha
I love and appreciate John's philosophy and wisdom about life, preparation, risk-mitigation, and when to turn around. Most pragmatic and helpful. "Summiting is optional; getting back down safely is mandatory." 🙂
Ryan, you're a 40+ year old man that lives like a kid.... I FRIGGEN LOVE IT! And here I thought I was the only one :). Happy holidays. Wishing you and your channel nothing but massive success for 2022. Cheers, bro.
I watch this over and over... I honestly don't know why you're not much bigger than you are a lot much bigger... I hit the thumbs up on all my devices.. I get sheer joy from watching you ride through these countries.. God-bless you and your kind soul.
Hard to look at this and not smile. Thanks so much Ryan, John and Mira for putting more positivity and warmth in the world. Best wishes for the new year guys and stay safe out there :)
You can never recreate those special moments in life or trips either even if you did get back to the same spots. But you two are doing it right, in style, in the moments!!
Thank you for this beautiful series! It makes me dream of doing this too and brings a light in these dark months. Love Mira! And John and Ryan too! To understand the UV light thing (science teacher here): UV light damages DNA. You can compare it to a log over some stream. The DNA bonds are the log and UV light is like a person jumping on the log at just the right rhythm to make it vibrate more and more. If this happens for a long time the log will break. DNA will be damaged and nature's repair systems aren't 100% of course. So we get mutations and/or non-functioning genes. That's why sunscreen is so important. For Bacteria or other microbes UV light is even more damaging, as they don't have a skin or anything like that to prevent the light from reaching deeper into their bodies. So the UV light readily kills microbes this way.
I really like your point about appreciating where you are in the moment. My husband and I now travel the US full time and spend only a month in each location. Depending on the future, many of the places we go we won't return. Definitely have to appreciate it.
What a great video!!! I loved you riding with Mira, how cool is that?!?! Thanks for taking us along with you and I pray for the victims of the Boulder fire.
As always, very thoughtful video. I love your insights into a lifestyle that most of us will never understand. The footage is insane and the weather looked perfect for this section.
Smashed the like button for the youtube algorithm. Envy your situation to get to ride all over AZ! Glad to hear you are safe in Boulder after the fires nearby.
Done ✅ I can tell this is one of those few channels where you can hit the like button before the vid even begins. Which I love bc I’m terrible about remembering to do it once the vid ends and I’m cruising the comments 🤦♀️
Happy New Year Ryan, John & Mira! In a time where there is so much negative noise in the world. It is a real treat to watch your videos. Thanks! I hope 2022 treats you all well!
Mira was my doggies name too. I'm a climber and she was a badass little climber too. When we climbed in Mexico I called her sassy instead of yelling "look".
Your videos are such a pleasure to watch. Icing on the cake is you're in my backyard...AZ. Just love it. What a great adventure the 3 of you are sharing. And I love the commentary. Thanks again for sharing. Safe travels!!!
Happy New Year, Mr. Van Duzer! I hope this year is filled with all the good things, for you and yours! Thank you again, for giving us the best content on the RUclips, and just being you! You truly give people all the good feelings, while watching your channel. Nothing but love and respect to you!
Hi Duzer, John and Mira. I have a small collie called Daisy. I have her in a trailer to rest her. So I suppose I am dragging about the same weight as you without the camping gear. I certainly have some idea of what John is doing. Full admiration and envy of you both. Keep up the good work.
Such an incredible journey Ryan! I somehow missed this one until now. Possibly due to working on average about 14 to 16 hours a day. Anyway, I love it!!!!
Great adventure Ryan! So much goodness in this one! I'm sure you chaps had fun!! It sure looks like it!! Great interview with John too. I had a good chuckle when the conversation turned to woman... The Navaho family is so supportive!!! 💛🧡💚😎🌍
Really appreciated John's candour and wisdom here. Being an introvert myself, I can really relate to the concept of loneliness versus being alone. Hoping you're keeping well in the wake of the Boulder County fires, and wishing you a Happy New Year, Ryan.
@@duzer You definitely captured that defining trait so well here. The sign of a true friend is the ability to bring these qualities out with such honesty and sincerity.
Low resolution and all, you’re drone work takes 2nd place to nobody’s! Great video and I enjoyed the interview time with John. Good stuff, right there! Have a GREAT day!
Ryan! We loved this video (as usual), having already watched it on Patreon. And then last night, we re-visited the video that we first saw of yours, Grand Canyon, R-R-R. We first saw it in Jan 2020, preparing ourselves for a G.G. hike in March. We fell in love with you and your content, instantly! Thanks for all of the goodness and THANK YOU SO MUCH for the call on John's b-day! We love you!
I hope you have a no whammy year Ryan another great adventure and thanks for bringing me along. lol great views and great fun with John and Mira. :) :) I am so sorry for the victims of the fires it was horrify to watch and I am not there I couldn't imagine how many boulderites felt. I hope you all rebuild and soldier on, sending good wishes for you all. :)
Yay! I love seeing your joy at riding with Mira! I’ve been waiting for this ever since John mentioned it in a podcast. I have been wondering all along if you were going to take a ride with Mira. I also wondered why John didn’t borrow your bike to run up and find his dry bag back in episode 2 (?). But I figured maybe sharing equipment isn’t something that’s done. So it was nice to see you get a taste of it this episode, and also I laughed at loud at John in his delight over feeling so zippy. Anyway, friend, thanks for the smiles. Sending some your way from Ohio, and love to Boulder during this tough time.
Always good to see man's best friend on an adventure. I think Ryan may need a wolf pup for his companion to match his energy. They are so smart and will wrestle with you for fun.
Happy New Years to you all. Who would of thought that Mira would have groupies in the Navajo Nation. Nice chat with John. Another great ride. Take care, Al
Thanks guys....happy new year! I continue to be amazed at the mileage you guys bang out day after day fueled by peanut butter, nutella and bean burritos!!! Nice to hear more about John's background...Great Canadian content. Take care and stay safe❤ 🇨🇦👍🚴♀️
That's a good conversation about being alone and loneliness and moving to taking on big trips. I plan to do my first multi night bikepacking trip this year and I'm literally looking to adopt a dog right now BECAUSE I spend a lot more time alone as of late. (I'm obv hoping to be able to train it to ride with me like Mira lol) I just started following John's RUclips channel, but he obv doesn't have as much interest or drive in creating content like you do. That's not a criticism of him, just means he'd rather just ride and do his thing. So it's nice to have you bounce those questions off of him
Hi Ryan, As I’ve said previously, you make without a doubt some of the best video content on the web. My wife and I watch all of your offerings. We only watch RUclips, no cable or broadcast TV, ever. You’re not into politics on your channel and we like that, but the world is upside down right now for one reason. Look who runs the major cities in our country. The same people run big cities all over the globe. Look at the nonsensical policies. As a pilot I travel internationally for a living and have for fourty years. Just look around. Unfortunately, it’s only going to get worse I fear. We hope you get your mojo back soon. Thanks!
Wow! There were so many beautiful moments in this video. I always enjoy your thoughtful conversations with John. Riding with Mira was a highlight. The dirty clothes - wow! That's a different level. I look forward to the next video. Happy New Year.
So in love with Mira in her Sunglasses! OMG! When you told Mira she is your favorite Dog in the whole wide world, I have said that to my son (now 32). I would always tell him he is my favorite son in the whole Wide World. xo
The poet Robert Francis talked about being alone but not lonely. It’s possible and it happens all the time, to be lonely among a multitude. Pick your moments.
New subscriber! What a spectacular treat this video/channel are!! Super excited to have found it and will be binge watching like it’s my job 🤩 Thank you so very much for sharing this with us, Ryan 🙌 What a dream to be able to do this!! ♥️ Double thank you for spreading love during your travels 😘
I love these adventures such different terrain to the UK. Including the metric distances is great, could you do the temperature too? I guessed it's cold but no idea just how cold.
Happy New Year to both of you, and Mira. Wishing i was tagging along for the day feeling the Warner temps, spinning my pedals. Super cold in Canada , even for us. John's neck of the woods was in the -30's C . You guys are definately in the right place. May you have many good days ahead of you.
You can't help but smile watching this awesome video, loved every minute of it👌Mira is such a joy to be around, I hope we get to see her many more times in the future! John is just a top bloke, one of life's good eggs just like yourself, Ryan👍I had a nice 50 mile ride today in the Scottish hills with 4000ft of climbing to get the legs going into 2022, happy new year John and Ryan and not forgetting Mira😁

Are your people all good Ryan?
Thanks Ryan. The same to you. Are you okay? Did the wildfires come near to you. Stay safe!
FELIZ AÑO NUEVO RYAN!! Te deseo un año 2022 lleno de amor, felicidad y muuuuchos kilómetros de aventuras y millones de subscriptores!! Abrazo fuerte!
Happy New Year! 🎈🎆🎊 Those morning views were amazing. 🚲🚲🙌🏼🤙🏼✌🏼❤️
John's an interesting guy, really thoughtful and well spoken. Cool to learn a bit more about him.
He is like a machine on that bike with his dog.
I was thinking the very same thing. Quite the excellent ambassador for Canada. (Not that they need it or anything.) That said, Ryan's doing an excellent job representing this shabby group south of the Canadian border!!!
I just found out he has his own channel

John’s comment about being alone and being lonely is spot on.
I love that you are investing in character development, letting us get to know John and Mira. What a great lifelong friend you’ve found! On a side note: I’ve wanted to try the UV filters but man, I’m nervous. Ha
Three of you compliment each other so well. Water rationing in desert is so tuff.
We have a good time together, that’s for sure
What an honor! John trusting you with Mira and his bike! That is like me trusting someone to ride my horse. Doesn't happen often. 💗
It was an honor to ride this bike!
I love and appreciate John's philosophy and wisdom about life, preparation, risk-mitigation, and when to turn around. Most pragmatic and helpful. "Summiting is optional; getting back down safely is mandatory." 🙂
I like John. He's a down to earth, intelligent man.
Ryan, you're a 40+ year old man that lives like a kid.... I FRIGGEN LOVE IT! And here I thought I was the only one :). Happy holidays. Wishing you and your channel nothing but massive success for 2022. Cheers, bro.
What a way to walk on the treadmill and see some great landscape and listen to inspiring conversation. Thanks Ryan, John and Mira!
John has a philosophy which I find easy to admire. For me, a bike and a dog is all I´d need, and I´d find the technology to be distracting.
John is great!
Ahmazing!! Simply stunning and how special to be on the Navajo side of the canyon. Loved this episode sooo much❤
I hope the adventures with you, john and mira never end! So inspiring and entertaining. Thanks for doing what you do!

This put a smile on my face today. Thank you for sharing your adventures, fun times and John’s words of wisdom with us.

She really is a special dog
