I couldn't wait till Saturday morning.for a bowl of captain crunch.to sit down and watch all the cartoon I could.1985 I was 15.here I am middle age.and still love cartoons .it all went so fast
What's wild about the tv time in 1985 is that it was still ANOLOG 3 to 4 networks to choose from now it's networks and on demand . There is nothing like a crackly signal and mono audio with a nice ( WE LL BE RIGHT BACK AFTER THESE MESSAGES.). NOW ITS IN AND OUT OF THE SHOW WITH NO WARNING. props to captn crunch and count chocula.. super golden crisp and fruit loops....follow your nose......
What an amazing feeling when you haven’t heard these songs in almost 40 years and they just spill out like they did every every Saturday back in the day !I had no idea that I knew every word to Don’t Drown Your Food!🥹
I remember these times and shows well. It's a sign of a time that's now a happy memory to those of us fortunate enough to have lived it. Everyone on here sees how this country has deteriorated badly in many ways over the past 5 to 10 years especially. It seems hopeless to ever see it make the un-turn in the road before it's past all hope. There's an answer as to how the soul of this country can be saved......it's as simple as these shows right here that we remember. You'd be surprised at what affect it might have if ABC took a look at it... a long look at it and then did a reboot keeping the intro intact that worked well for 20 years. Most people consider the past useless and look at it and the things we left back there as yesterdays news now worthless in today's world, but when we can't see clearly what's lying out ahead of us as a country and have lost our direction, we have to look to the past and get back to come basic principles if there's to be any future worth having. These shows as simple as they are can be the beginning of the answer we've all been looking for. Just my thoughts.
Wow that jingle, we will return after these messages, brings back a flood of memories. Eating captain crunch, drooling over the toy commercials and enjoying the weekend freedom!
God I Miss Great Shows Like This one, God I Wish that There was a Reboot of this Awesome show, so that Kids Today Don't know what Great shows are these days.
The ABC Weekend Special theme is arguably the one piece of Saturday morning music that we kids 😉 remember most because it was on consecutively every weekend FOR TWENTY YEARS, from 1977-97. That's why it brings a wistful tear to my eye every time I hear it here on RUclips. The toy and cereal commercials as well. They're glorious times of fun and innocence that we'll NEVER get back. But we can revisit them here any time we want to. Preferably on Saturday mornings. 🤍
Yae! Thank you. I love the commercials too. They remind me of when Booftywoof was alive and we were kids and the barbecue was on. She’d ask for the barbecue too, she’d go to the screen door and howl and Dad would go out and feed her her gizzard.
Petition to bring Captain OG Readmore back!!😩 He really encouraged us 80s babies to read more (hence his name). This was the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons and educational programming. Today’s kids will never know. #Nostalgia
I want to go back and live it all over again. The 70’s and 80’s were the best years of my life. We had the best TV shows and Specials back then and lived in the last of the best decades in America..it was the party of a life time and we lived it well. We had great shows like, Falcon Crest, Dallas, Knots Landing, Dynasty,The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, The Six Million dollar man, The Dukes of Harzard, BJ and the Bear, Air Wolf, Battle Star Galactica! Knight Rider and for the first time ever the motion pictures of, Star Wars, Star Trek, Superman, Spider Man, Close Encounters of the third kind, E.T., Poltergeist, Jaws, Friday the 13th, Aliens, (No not the ones being aloud to just walk into our country right now in 2023), Predator and many more… We also celebrated the bicentennial in the 70’s when the entire country celebrated it from Apr 1, 1975 - Jul 4, 1976. It was like the 4th of July every day. It was fantastic!.…it was such a better time to be alive in this county. We never had the problems that are here today. It was unheard of for kids being shot and men walking around dressed as women. It was the last of America and we were lucky to have experienced it.

Two errors here: the Bunjee cartoon you have here is not Return of Bunjee but the first two-part special The Bunjee Venture from 1984. And while The Velveteen Rabbit cartoon here was produced in 1985, it is not the one that aired on ABC Weekend Special. You have the one that was produced by Atkinson Arts Films for HBO and FHE. The one that aired on the Weekend Special was produced by Hanna-Barbera's Australia studio. The Hanna-Barbera one did get video releases through Kids Klassics and Anchor Bay, both licensed from ABC. That said, it's still a nice attempt at recreating the Weekend Special experience. The bumpers and commercials are a nice touch.
