Installing Windows 95 on a 3ds and Trying to Make Music with it

- Welcome to a series of many more videos to come. Can the Nintendo 3ds run Windows 95? Possibly. Can I install an early version of Ableton and try to make music on it? We will find out.
In one of my next videos, I want to install Windows on my TV, so stick around to see that as well.
Music used in this video is made by me: linktr.ee/jace...

This is so oddly specific... good!

Yo wsg
Very funny but still interesting video. I've always dreamed, as a tiny innocent child, my 3DS could also become my personal computer.
Now it can kinda be...
@@stefanolassandro886 thank you!! Now you can have the world’s slowest windows 95 machine right in your pocket. Ready for you to sort of draw a picture and watch it crash before your eyes lol
@@metrabyte03 ahah I couldn't have asked for more xD
Next step, change DOSBox's CPU emulation settings
I love this concept!! I always thought about something like this and seeing it actually happen is so cool!
Was this completely unnecessary? Yes. Was this awesome? Also yes.
@@legenberry3217 Will I do it again with another device? Yes. Will it take an enormous amount of time? Also yes. Lmao, I’m glad you enjoyed this insanity
0:43 this is DOSBox SVN, SVN refers to the fact that this is a Git version and should be newer than the release it was based upon
@@_lun4r_ Oh! Thank you for the info
This is awesome! I’ve actually wanted to do this for a while! Gonna try getting Lego island working lol
@@TheGlitchyMario oh my god good luck lmao! I gotta see if I can even get doom running on here
@@metrabyte03 I wish you luck! That would be cool if you can!
@@TheGlitchyMario thank you! I’m definitely posting a video if I can lol
Putting windows on a 3ds is wild. You mad lad
@@skystoyhunts7225 what’s even more wild is it is almost completely useless with how slow it is lmao. There are hours of footage of it just loading or booting up
@@metrabyte03 play minecraft on windows 95 plsss try man
@@metrabyte03 pls try minecraft on windos 95 pls i subbed
@@ٴٴٴٴٴٴ9 that’s a good idea! I have a plan to film a video doing that, or to at least try loll
@@metrabyte03 yay il watch it i betcha
This deserves more views!

Amazing video im interested to see where this channel goes
@@xBrayL3 thank you! I’m excited to see where this goes as well :) I plan to either put macOS on a steam deck next, or put windows 95 or 98 on my TV lol
I love this!

@@jjasso75 WOOOO!! Woah that’s like 100 in day, thank you, and everyone else!!
Can you play doom on windows 95 on a Nintendo 3ds?
@@garymerfdudegui9452 good question. I gotta try this now lmao

I love this video
@@nexboygaming thank you :)
It installs the joypad driver because sound cards used to be the interface joypads connected through (with the Game Port).
@@ozzelot3349 ohh that’s right, completely slipped my mind lol
@@metrabyte03 Also, I got a laptop here with 8MB of RAM and 95 runs fine on it, though I haven't tried Ableton (the laptop has no sound card, so there's not much of a point). I'm assuming the issue here is that the CPU emulated is either too weak, or the 3DS is too weak to emulate it well. (Probably the latter.)
@@ozzelot3349 that’s pretty cool! I think I’d like to get some real hardware and install windows 95 on it and actually get Ableton running. I think that would be interesting
Nice video!
I want to install windows 95 on my 3ds as well, how did u get dosbox and the installer working?
@@AndMor2028 To begin, I do have the new 3ds model that has a faster processor. I’m not sure if dosbox works on the older ones, but it might, just way slower. Anyway, I basically just used the 0.0.3 3dsx files from github.com/MrHuu/dosbox-3ds/releases/tag/v0.0.3
Then you have to create a blank .img file and extract the windows 95 install iso to it. Mount dos in dosbox, mount the img file you created with the windows 95 files on there. Then in dos, navigate to the c drive and run the setup from the windows 95 cd. I basically followed the steps here: dosbox95.darktraveler.com/
nice content... thank you :-) 👽
@@garyarmstrong7558 thank you! :)
Can you give download links for the Windows image, harddisk, etc... ?
Could you link the DOSBox emulator you used as well as a copy of its configuration file? I cannot find anywhere a version that does not crash when attempting to open the touch keyboard.
@@tomrow32 I used the 3dsx version from here: github.com/MrHuu/dosbox-3ds/releases/tag/v0.0.3
I also just had the default config file it creates, but changed frameskip to 1 and gave it 32mb of Ram. I think this depends on whether you have the new or old 3ds model since the old one is much less powerful unfortunately.
@@tomrow32 and to open the touch keypad, you just hold the little grey square down instead of tapping it, but maybe you’re already doing it correctly lol
@MetraByte you should take a look at installing a av out put on the nintendo 3ds.
Oooo interesting, I'll look into that
Why did you had to do all these steps? I have Windows 95 on the exact same 3DS as yours and I just had to install dosbox as a CIA file, put a w95 image file on the dosbox folder of my SD card as well as a w95.bat to do all the commands stuff for us and boot w95 and that's all I had to do. I then just have to run dosbox, select "load content" and run the .bat file :) (I just don't have the extra mouse and keyboard stuff you have on the bottom screen but that's alright)
I'm not entirely sure lol, Did you have windows 95 already fully installed in your image file you transferred over? Also if you hold down on the little grey box on the bottom, the options for mouse and keyboard should come up
How long did this actually take
@@alexisnadeau1370 at least 1 minute. Probably more tho
@@alexisnadeau1370 jk, like 5-6 hours total probably lmao
dude if fasttracker 2 can run directly in dosbox that alone would be worth trying out
Dudeee you're right! I gotta try that
youve erned my sub
Hey quick question can you make a tutorial on how to do this i been trying to do this for a while
@@MistySpider the best resource I followed while making this video can be found here: dosbox95.darktraveler.com/ with some slight changes. My video should also work as a loose tutorial, but might be missing some steps.
To begin, I do have the new 3ds model that has a faster processor. I’m not sure if dosbox works on the older ones, but it might, just way slower. Anyway, I basically just used the 0.0.3 3dsx files from github.com/MrHuu/dosbox-3ds/releases/tag/v0.0.3
Then you have to create a blank .img file(I used power ISO to make a hard drive image of 1gb) and extract the windows 95 install iso to it. Mount a dos floppy disk image in dosbox, mount the img file you created with the windows 95 files on there like how I did in the video. Then in dos, navigate to the c drive and run the setup from the windows 95 cd.
I’m not much of a tutorial writer, but I might put together a rough document and put it in the description. I’ll reply here if I do :)
Yo thx and i also have a new 3ds too@@metrabyte03
cool shit
still works better than a psp
@@xenonorsomething I was surprised that it did lmao
The 3ds and new 3ds are overspecced for windows 95!
It's gonna be fun making Guest Additions for the 3DS.
Btw, all 1's will work as a valid 95 key
Lmao I did not know that
I'll use that when I install Windows 95 on my TV lol
u know u have to run DOOM on it, right??????!!
I promise I will do this and other games too!
