These are all crazy, but I thought for sure the 105 f/1.4 Bokeh Master was gonna make the list.
It's amazing, but Nikon had one already.
I forgot Sigma made a rocket launcher
My favorite Sigma lenses are the 28/1.4 DG, 35/1.2 DG and 105/1.4 DG because they are completely unmatched, highly useful and affordable.
I have never used a better 28mm, it is completely flawless, no coma, very little vignetting at 1.4, unbelievably sharp corners. I'm not surprised they haven't done a DG DN 28mm, the DG HSM 28mm is perfect.
Shame camera gear is so expensive. I dont like being stuck with canon lenses. I wonder if I should stay with canon for a while longer or try nikon or sony. Having looked at pricing for a while now, it looks like sony always has some kind of deal going on while canon really only has black friday and small cash backs... That being said, switching systems would still be a big investment.
@@Xirpzy, nearly all the RF stuff has seen big discounts this year. But who cares? The aforementioned Sigmas are simply incredible with adapters.
For the past 3 weeks my absolute favorite Sigma lens has been the 60-600 DG DN OS Sports on my a6700. It covers the 70-150 deficiency. So in combination with my ZV-E10 and my Tamron 17-70 this pair of APSC cameras and lenses are a dream.
I love Sigma. Especially after their Global vision was announced, they've been churning so many great and unusual lenses. Their CEO is also so nice and candid in interviews. I have only one Sigma lens but would not hesitate to buy another one.
There is also the epic 24-35 f2 which was fantastic, I used to own it, and the 20mm 1.8
Great video as usual :)
Although I was secretly hoping to see a review on the new Tamron 50-300 :D
I purchased the old *20 1.8* for DSLR just last year and it is very sharp overall. Wide open it is absolutely usable (with huge vignette, that's true) and from 2.8 it is razor (in the centre for sure). Bought it mostly for video (due to vignette, I often have to make +0.3 expo compensation, LOL), but it is insanely fun for photos too! With minimum focusing distance of only 20cm it gives astonishingly unreal perspective with an ocean of bokeh! Canon (which I'm a user of) still has nothing similar. And, of course, this lens is really cheap for what it's worth! Around $150 for a copy in good condition is nothing for what it delivers!
I have several Sigma lenses, a couple of ART wide angles, a brilliant 150mm macro and a super-wide zoom. My favourite, though, is a 60-600mm zoom. It's an utterly brilliant lens, super sharp, excellent autofocus and the massive range means you can take it as your only lens when out shooting wildlife. It's very heavy at 3.7kg, but OK to carry if it's the only lens you need. If I took a more normal 150-600 I'd likely also need to carry something to bridge the gap up to 150mm.
Hand holding a 3.7kg lens doesn't seem like something enjoyable, i used to have a 120-300 F/2.8 OS which was already pretty heavy (3.2kg), but i was willing to compromise for the 2.8 aperture, the fact that it is an internal zoom, and the fact that it was dirt cheap (500€ used). But carrying a 3.7 lens just to have a wider wide end ? No thanks, personnaly i almost never need wider than 200mm when shooting wildlife, and when i do it is to shoot macro or lanscape, so 60mm isn't that usefull for me. Besides, the 60-600 is pretty expensive no ?
@@pierrevilley6675 Hi Pierre, well, I can manage holding the lens on my Canon 6d for several hours, but I agree it's not for everyone. My daughter can't really use it as it's just too heavy for her. For my personal shooting I do often take wider, context shots, so for me, it's very useful having the massive range. We're all different, and what suits one photographer might not suit another. Everything's a trade off. And yes, it is an expensive lens. In my case, I bought it second hand and traded a couple of other lenses in for it, to get the cash purchase cost down. I got mine from MPB, in the UK, a good used photo kit dealer.
Best lenses for me are clearly the 40 f1.4 Art and the 105 f1.4 Art; they are monsters in weight and size, but boy, oh boy, the pictures they can achieve...
Good list! I missed one lens that I feel was missed out through the 1.8 zooms; sigma also brought out the amazing 24-35 f2 lens, one of the brightest full frame zoom lenses of its time!
Interesting Video! Sigma really is a company edging the technologies to their maximum! I really like that and hope we will get to see many more extreme lenses!
I appreciate many things about Sigma. One of them is that they’re willing to put out lenses with character. One of my favorite lenses is their inexpensive 30mm f1.4 because it has je ne sais quoi
They are also the only manufacturer providing the market with the 180mm/2.8 macro 1/1 lens. If i remember well, before 2000. Now in it's third execution. I had the first manual version. A highly specialized and superb optic. Also they are the first to produce a tele zoom ending at 300mm and providing a constant f/2.8 aperture. The Canonikon corp took ten years to replicate it and at 3X the price.
Hooray for working distance!
I have two Sigma lenses; a 30 f1.4 and an 18-35 f1.8, both for my SD Quattro, extremely good setup
I loved the 10-20 4.5-5.6 Sigma 10 years ago. I was just getting serious about photography and the images blew my mind. I still love my 50mm 1.4 Art on my Z8 via the FTZ. I hope Nikon open up to Sigma as well
This is a great run-down and the point about trying something different as a manufacturer was nicely said. Also, I'd hate to be a Canon owner these days, locked into Canon lenses (and I say that as an ex-Canon owner who still uses EF lenses). I like these retrospectives. Do more, please!
Locked in? More like unleashed! Since buying my first R body, I’ve purchased more Sigma Art glass than Canon RF. The 28, 40, and 105 are amazing and all share the same drop in filter adapter. Nice!
Surprised you didn't include Sigmas 105f1.4 monster!
Nikon had already done a 105mm F/1.4 "monster " 3 years before so not unique though Sigma managed to make their version even bigger
It's amazing, but Nikon had one already.
Thanks Christopher. I have been following Sigma for quiete some time. I owned a Sigma shift zoom in the Olympus OM-1 SLR time and had the 100-400 on the Canon EF, brilliant lens, very sharp. Althought I do not own a Sigma lens now, I will keep a look when I decide a new lens to be bought
Lol that green giant! Imagine rocking up to a wedding and setting that up down a long aisle
Sigma Should do a „New“ Version of the Sigma 105mm 1.4 as DG DN and 135mn DG DN for L mount 60mp cameras 😊
They are working on it.
Christopher Frost - “This is perhaps not the best lens for a bit of light street or travel photography”
Tom Calton - “Hold my beer”
Love my Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 !! Wow!
You missed out the 120-300 2.8. Brilliant lens.
엥 한국에도 계셨군요 프로스트님. 오랜만에 옛날 한국 모습 보니 너무 반갑네요!
What a fun review! I am strongly considering the 14mm 1.4. Would love to see a comparison with the Sony 14mm 1.8, which I currently own.
Nice video as usual Chris! :) I personally own multiple Sigma ART lenses, and I've also used their older early 2000's lenses. The ART lenses are on ANOTHER level! I feel that they offer incredible value for money and superb image quality. Often only matched by lenses twice the price. If only they could find a way to reduce the weight a little, we'd have a 10 out of 10. But that's only a minor niggle.
Love sigma and so glad for the megadap pro adapter that allows me to double adapt using the MC-11 for EF to Z mount so I can keep using them.
3x is certainly nicer considering the trade offs that one must usually accept when choosing zoom over prime. That said, the 18-35 and 14-24, both
I bought my first Sigma zoom lens in the mid 1980s in Singapore. At that time, the only virtue it had was its price which was well below first party lens prices. I still have it and it performed at its price level, which I suppose is not saying much. However, I'm glad to see that Sigma quality has improved in leaps and bounds, and matches if not exceed some first party lenses. Oh, in the mid 1980s, their lenses were lighter and smaller than some 3rd party lenses such as the Vivitar Series 1 zoom lens which I still have.
Sigma should start making super zoom lenses again. We need compact 28-300mm.
40mm 1.4, the only lens that can counting the model's eyebrow at side open aperture
Now you have to do one for Tamron.
Sigma are certainly the most exciting premium third party lens manufacturers and I say it as a former Tamron fan boy. I don't know what it is but I prefer the images I get from my Sigma lenses over the Sony or Tamron equivalents.
sigmas are very good primes for sure. well engineered and manufactured.
however, as a Canon EF remnant, I prefer 24-70 vc and 70-200 vc from Tamron. Sigma's 24-70 was nothing but a flop. I thought the guys at DXO mark had a bad copy, but nah.
so team sigma lost me there.
@@sunlbx I a. Referring to their newer releases particularly on Sony, the i series and the dg dn series. I already have the sigma 85 dg dn, 65mm , 45
Mm and 24 f3.5…all spectacular lenses with their own unique charm.
What lens do all of you want to see Sigma make next? I'd personally want to see something like a 12-28mm f2.8 to go with the recent 28-45mm f1.8, but a 12-24mm f2.8, or even a 12-20mm f2.8 would be nice if only because I really would like a cheaper version of the $3,000 12-24mm f2.8.
The 200-500mm 2.8 Lens is nicknamed The Sigzilla.
My favorite brand, using the 500mm f4 and 85mm f1.4. Waiting for Nikon opening up de Z-line for Sigma...
My favourites are 28 F1.4 art, 105 f1.4 art and 135f1.4 art
Sigma art 35mm back in DSLR days. The lens that defined art series. Bigger, better, cheaper and solid! Sigma then just steamrolled off the success of the first few art lenses. Well deserved.
I am saving money for a kit refesh in a year or so. But the 120-300mm 2.8 is on my list as a great candidate. It'll fit in well with my 35-150mm for live event work.
The "Sports" version is still pretty expensive (1200 used), but the previous model which has the same optical formula can be found for as low as 500, if you don't mind having an AF a little bit slower, and an OS a little bit less steady
@@pierrevilley6675 I need to try the two. I do mostly video work, so it would be used on an operated tripod for stability.
Wow an almost meter long lens. Wonder if you could get away with attaching a rifle bipod to it at that point.
You can still get The 200-500 brand new from Sigma.
I love this list, but I also think the 4 tiny Sigma f/1.4 prime lenses made for APS-C cameras are worth a mention too!
I believe it's called sigmas "golden trio", the 16 1.4, 30 1.4 and 56 1.4
@@Wilma5532 there is a 23mm f/1.4 as well. I've heard people calling these the "Three Musketeers", which consists of four members.
@@shang-hsienyang1284 seems like people have a bunch of ways to name em, anyways, sigma appears to be the absolute best 3rd party lens manufacturer right now and possibly in the future.
40mm f1.4????
A man after my own heart. :P
You can get the Sigma 200-500 f2.8 at MPB used for "only" €10.999.
I didnt even know some of these lenses existed
Great video, but you should stay away from most of them. I have the 40mm f/1.4 Art lens. It is also heavy for a 40mm prime lens 🙂
So we just gunna forget all about the 105 1.4
It's amazing, but Nikon had one already.
Love Sigma but 28-45 isn't a zoom lens. There is 1.6x even not 2x. It's fix with slight crop feature. 200-500 also bad move. But fixes and 70-200 are extremely good!
