It always amazes me not only how well they work, but how efficiently all the triggers and levers and everything fit together in a tight space without interfering, especially with things like this that move around so much
You don't need to get deep into engineering when building a homemade crossbow/ slingshot. All you need is highschool physics in order to do a few energy calculations so you don't end up with a weak weapon or one that requires too much strength to draw. Joerg can build a bridge. An engineer can build a bridge that barely works, as the saying goes.
The first engineers didn't need a degree they just needed logic. Hell, the historic monument's that still stands today after millenia weren't made by people who got a piece of paper after 4 years.

I would like to formally invite Joerg to the Sunshine State to assist me in building a 'gator catapult, as I have a need for one. Don't worry, it will only be used for good and legal purposes. Mostly.
As much as I love watching you use the bows I think my favorite part of watching your videos is your laugh. You have a very enjoyable and hearty/healthy laugh
Joerg, I would recommend getting yourself a 3d printer, even if you don't know how to build 3d models for it yourself. For one, they are TONS of fun! But more seriously, even if you can't make your own models, there are tons of freely available models for printing out there, some of which you might find useful for your builds. And modern commercially available printers are not only a lot cheaper than before, but also a lot more precise. You can get a very good 3d printer for under $300 US, and spools of filament or bottles of resin generally run you around $45 US, and one spool or bottle will last you quite a while. A bit of advice from someone who's used both type of printers, you'll probably find more use out of a FMD type printer (the kind that take the spools of filament) considering what you're likely to use them for. The PLA or ABS plastic they use has more strength than most resins, and they tend to have a larger build plate, meaning you'd be able to print out larger parts. PLA and ABS also takes to sanding pretty wall, and ABS can be smoothed and polished using acetone quite easily. A SLA (resin) printer though is much better at getting very fine details, and the prints they produce are usually much more exact than those produced by FMD printers, however the cured resin can be quite a bit more brittle than PLA or ABS, though it's possible to get some types of flexible resin to produce things like washers or gaskets. As for the software they need, if you're getting your files online to print out, you really only need to worry about the slicing program. This is the software that takes the model and converts it to code the printer can read to know how to go about printing the model. It also places supports in areas where the model will need to be held up during printing. With FMD printers in particular, all you really have to do is position your model in the build area displayed in your slicer program, and maybe adjust a few settings for layer height, infill, or support generation. The biggest concern is orientating the model for the best print, and making sure it's well supported so you don't have any unsupported areas (else you end up with what I like to call a 'spaghetti failure'). It's honestly well worth getting into, especially in your line of work. Infact, I've already seen a few people who have been making printable versions of your designs.
Joerg Your workmanship is awesome, I love the shape & finish of that little pistol crossbow in fact it's curves and shape could almost be described as attractive , just like almost all the other crossbows You have produced it is the work of a dedicated amateur artisan which would make many trained artisans jealous . The part that has me most intrigued is how the trigger release allows the return of the bolt assembly, very unique way of removing a persons motion from the equation.
Joerg, have you thought about making these with reverse draw limbs? I imagine you could make it almost as compact as this one with actual limbs, and as the heaviest, sturdiest part is attached to the handle, you might even be able to make the lever and magazine assembly lighter. With the double-string assembly, you might even be able to make some kind of a reload assist using the same limbs.
I am very thankful to Mr. Sprave for the invaluable master craft classes on improvised weaponry. I have tinkered all my life and my hats off to Joergs genius.
Tod of Tod's workshop also shows that steel bows have a speed limit. Even a 1000lb+ bow doesn't move a projectile faster than an 800lb bow, it is just able to move a heavier projectile. Steel isn't an ideal bow material.
I think with the correct steel like tempered spring steel, you can get good performance. Sacrificing a little speed for power can be worth it, and you can definitely make something formidable without needing such large draw weights. You want to use steel that wouldn’t have been available during medieval times, then again nobody had fiberglass back then either.

Would love it if you sold plans. Either way been following you for years love the content. I know you don't make blue prints but you could film the building process. Wood workers love to watch builds. That note use patrion to have followers watch or do live streams.
I feel like one advantage of using rubber instead of a metal cross piece is that the weapon ends up being a lot less wide. This would make it easier to store or use in tight spaces
How are you not working for some 007 agency or CIA? btw for blue prints, how about just having a picture of all the parts next to a ruler? I think people will be able to figure out how it all assembles.
Great build Joerg, I am happy you are building projects again. I have a simple solution for those who want plans. Perhaps you could take pictures of each part sitting on a grid such as a cutting mat or graph paper as you craft them. The pictures would give designers a place to start, and require little effort on your part.
@@Slingshotchannel I understand. The photos would have to be taken while you were creating it, before the final assembly and glue up. Just something to consider. It is clear you are asked often for plans. Thanks again for making videos!
Instead of blueprints for builds like this, maybe close-up shots of the disassembled parts, laid out on a grid mat? That would make it easier for people to reproduce designs, or translate them into stl.
My issue with 3D printing this is that plastic won't be as strong as wood and will seriously limit the power you can have before it blows up in your hands.
Been following your channel for gosh.... I swear it’s been ten plus years, and I am still blown away with the engineering and beauty of your creations.
Have to give credit to you for making a crossbow pistol that small in wood. Clocks compared to wrist watches are easy. Wrist watches in wood is daunting. Nice job.
It would very helpful for someone seeking to make plans if the slingshot pistol was taken apart and photos taken. After that, most people with a mindset for plan making could make the plans and then PDF files. Any chance of some photo's Jörg, please? 😊

Would love it if you sold plans. Either way been following you for years love the content. I know you don't make blue prints but you could film the building process. Wood workers love to watch builds. That note use patrion to have followers watch or do live streams.
I thought he did? I'm pretty sure he said a long time ago that you can find all his plans
He has already had trouble with RUclips and the press
I feel like one advantage of using rubber instead of a metal cross piece is that the weapon ends up being a lot less wide. This would make it easier to store or use in tight spaces
lol I like how Jeorg has to make little sound effects when he shoots.
Are homemade or 80% gun kits leagal in Germany??please answer if you know
It looks very cool. Please make a metal version that is more powerful and compact. Then sell us it :)
plastics and aluminum, maybe 2" longer.
40 lb draw is convenient, gray exercise tubing is 20 lb.
maybe a manufacturer will make a deal with Joerg.
Danke Schon, Jeorge. Your designs are genius. I've said it before, but you have the most infectious laugh. I love it.
"it is something in between a rifle and a pistol." So a carbine? ;)
Yes, pretty much.
Or a Riftol or Pisle?
my grandpa was laughing in the same way. he had similar glasses and was also big like you. its so nice hanging out right here
How are you not working for some 007 agency or CIA?
btw for blue prints, how about just having a picture of all the parts next to a ruler?
I think people will be able to figure out how it all assembles.
Here's a youtuber, with a laugh thats hated by no one ever.
Love u joerge, love from India 🇮🇳❤
Wunderschön!
Sehr gutes Video!
Keep up the great work!
Great build Joerg, I am happy you are building projects again. I have a simple solution for those who want plans. Perhaps you could take pictures of each part sitting on a grid such as a cutting mat or graph paper as you craft them. The pictures would give designers a place to start, and require little effort on your part.
Most of the weapon is glued and can’t be disassembled.
@@Slingshotchannel I understand. The photos would have to be taken while you were creating it, before the final assembly and glue up. Just something to consider. It is clear you are asked often for plans. Thanks again for making videos!
Looks so damn nice, idk why but it reminds of medevil crossbows
"This is the slingshot channel not the springshot channel" Love it!!!
Shades of Paul Harrell, Joerg implements the "meat target"!
Need pork ribs and orange lung tissue. =)
Instead of blueprints for builds like this, maybe close-up shots of the disassembled parts, laid out on a grid mat? That would make it easier for people to reproduce designs, or translate them into stl.
“Started to bleed all over my weapon” 😩
It gives the wood that desirable reddish tone, it's totally Sexy^!!^
The design and ergonomic of your dart shooter is beautiful. No blue prints is because you are a natural artist. Hahaha!
Your laugh always brings a smile to my face regardless of the circumstances I'm in. Not to mention the great content.
Joerg, been watching your channel for a few years now and it just gets better and better mate. Keep up the great work. Coxy
Your craftsmanship is out standing.
i love you man, raw creativity with no ties to making money. you have been a huge inspiration to me over the years.
Thanks Joerg, I always enjoy your toys...
you're not stupid . You're are the best slingbow designer ever!
I love it!
What is it's draw length?
Finally an old school slingshot channel style video
My issue with 3D printing this is that plastic won't be as strong as wood and will seriously limit the power you can have before it blows up in your hands.
Been following your channel for gosh.... I swear it’s been ten plus years, and I am still blown away with the engineering and beauty of your creations.
That little decocking mechanism you put in is neat, I like it.
Every video, I half expect Joerge to show me a slingshot that hurls angry Doberman Pincers at the target. I haven't seen that yet, but I haven't been disappointed either.
Well Joerg, you may not have "modern engineer training" but you sir are at least a slingshot engineer of the highest level.
One of the smartest people alive who invented revolutionary magazine: "I'm too stupid."
He is modest and respectful and a awesome masculine roll model.
I found your channel through Pyrocynical, and I gotta say, I’m glad I did, very good video
I love how much joy this device gets you my friend! I'll try to build my own and hope it makes me as happy as you look in this video!! congratulations and keep doing this! you're GREAT at it
You sir are one of the most brilliant Renaissance geniuses of this day and age. I admire your innovative ideas. I would put you in the same league as Archimedes or Leonardo DaVinci.
He's probably passed up at least two or three patent opportunities that would have made him a full blown tycoon! But ...we still have him here!!!
Glad to see a new video. Thanks buddy
I just discovered this guys channel. His laugh is something else lol.
