I notice you can easily double the draw weight by replacing the slide with a pull cord with a 2:1 pulley. Just put the pulley at the front, the cord anchored at the back, looped around the pulley and then back. Then the pull will travel twice as far with half the force of the draw weight. Since the crossbow is so short, doubling the pull length is quite practical.
That's genius! I know that the WT mini striker has a pull cord that's setup like you described and it has 120lb draw weight (60lb after pulleys). It's also small, but bigger than this obviously, and doubling the drawing distance still isn't even remotely an issue at that size. Since thats the case, it definitely shouldn't be an issue on something absurdly small like this. You could possibly even get away with adding another couple of pulleys and make it even more powerful being as short as it is. Of course then youd have to figure out where to put them all, and how, or if, you will hide them. You'd probably need to make a few parts thicker or out of metal to handle the extra forces too. It'd be one of the coolest crossbow pistols of all time though. Imagine a pistol crossbow like this but with 240lb of rubber band resistance and a 60lb pulling weight. Even if it had to be a tad larger itd be ridiculous.

Damn, I really like this one! Hope this one will get a finished product version and will get mass production soon. I'm sure it will not lose with a Stinger and adder Crossbow in a market sell. Also since it is so small it can be mean it much more versatile to be carried around and also with a much simple mechanism it means it has a much lower maintenance effort compared to Adder and Stinger. Can be a good list for collectors or people who just want to enjoy simple target shooting things for fun, even I do not doubt it this mini pistol crossbow still can do small game activities just fine.
I'm sure that pistol would kill, great idea to use plywood. 3D printing it would not be hard and a well tuned printer would be able to do it in 1 print. Then you would just need to add the cord and it would be ready to load... Kind of scary that we can now just print guns and gun parts as needed. Happy holidays and be safe with your new mini crossbow.
Being able to print a weapon is a moot point I think. You can build a pistol that fires real bullets from some pipe you can get at any hardware store. So you could build a pistol without going through the hassle of 3D printing. That's why I think stricter gun laws won't change too much. A criminal who is inclined to build a dangerous weapon to kill is always going to be able to do so.
@@schwuzi strict gun laws like we have in Europe work by getting guns off the street. in the US you have to verify someone's identity to determine wether they're legally carying. in much of europe you can see if someone can legally carry a gun from a block away by their clothes. criminals don't often walk the street armed here because they know if anyone sees them they go to jail. even if they can get a gun, it's not worth the risk unless they know they absolutely need one.
@@schwuzi Very true, zip guns have been around for 50+ years. But I sill feel that buying all the stuff for a zip gun and then building it is not any were as easy as pressing the print button.....
Interesting, would like to see a crono of this to get the speed of the bolts in air, and/ or comparisons to other bows.. Also regular compound bows use cams to gain a mechanical advantage to allow an easier draw and increase potential bow strength/ bolt speed. And as someone mentioned below if this was made of aluminum you maybe able to reduce the size /strength and add this features to it. As it stands now the only draw back IMHO, to the present model (nit picking really) is the need for a spring powered return on the cocking mechanism, for faster follow up shots. Perhaps this would be helpful for divers for spear fishing and as a shark deterrent. Great work, looking forward to more of Joerg's innovations.
Adapting it from two ruber loops to twisting one slightly longer loop(8 or 0/0 or 0//0) might give more power. Plus if it's mostly 3D printed with two thin hardwood or Iron side plates it sould give it higher strength. Also if the darts are restricted to nothing wider than a pencil it sould not need to be that wide. One idea that comes to mind is adapting most of magazines you show off, the lever angle looks to be very shalow Vs that spring. Also replaceing that static rod with a curved arm, might aply more preshure to the reload(faster?) automateing the reload maybe just a mater of adding a small cog on a spring.
*When I was a kid I had a "kit" crossbow. It was basically just a 2x6 board cut into a stock shape with a trigger assembly and two hardened steel rails for the bolt channel. The "bow" itself was meticulously cut from a 26" automotive leaf spring with a hacksaw over the course of a week or so. There was no cocking mechanism but the instructions called for a 36" steel rod with a hook to catch the 1/16" aircraft cable "string"* *You put one end of the rod on the ground, the other hooks the cable, you put your sternum on the butt of the stock and lean hard on the rod to get the cable into the trigger latch. I weighed about 170 pounds and I had to kinda bounce on it to get it fully cocked. No idea what the draw weight really was.* *I made bolts from fiberglass tent frame sticks, the kind with the elastic cord running through them. Glued on ferrules, nocks and fletchings. I shot it through the drivers side door of a 1968 Galaxie 500 and it landed in the passenger seat. Ah, childhood.*

@@xpndblhero5170 I see. Yes, this is another story. If he does I am sure he will be able to sell a lot of stuff in US, but in Europe and the UK I am not so sure as weapons are quite restricted.
You’re a genius, Joerg Sprave. A repeating pistolized arrow firing machine.Good work !
No gunpowder
Just a flex trigger
18 shots, only one outside center mass. Yes Mr. Sprave, that's an excellent design! May the New Year bring you and yours much happiness.
Hearing you talk about German crossbow laws is like hearing myself rage about NJ gun laws
Virginia is heading that way soon too, hence why I'm moving to Texas (not the only reason of course, but still a big one).
Бесшумое оружие ближнего боя.Весьма креативно!Удачные разработки!Успеха!👍
joerg, could you built but instead of the rubber band why don't you use torsion base like the lancehead crossbow . I think it would definitely be possible
Jesus Jeorg, more concealable than a crossbow, quieter than a gun. Your innovation is as impressive as it is frightening
i hope a 3D model can get more capacity
Joerg this is the best design ever !
Thanks and Merry Christmas.
"Hello and welcome..... hahahaha" awesome
What a great,, fun & educational video. I would love a back yard play ground like you're. More videos please sir, loving it.I'm Cat from the UK 🇬🇧🇬🇧👌👌👍👍👍
These are so awesome. So is my Glock¹⁹
Glock and Steambow are both from Austria. I can see a collaboration coming 😂
I think even 2 more inches of length would add much more speed or allow for a heavier bolt with more energy, excellent prototype.
And, as someone suggested, twice cocking length through grear ratio allowing for twice of the spring power. Then attach friendly name: "peacetool".
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
But I sill feel that buying all the stuff for a zip gun and then building it is not any were as easy as pressing the print button.....
he has the best villain laugh i hear for some time now. love the channel btw
Very ingenious design. Nice job, hard to believe it's made of wood.
That zombie crossbow bit should be a world record. Happy New Year.
Nice! Dang I wish your videos were around when a friend and I were building a crossbow as teens, ...back in the early 80’s.
Love your pistol design. Great job. 👍
Wieder toll gebastelt 😉👍
You're a genius, Joerg! I'm totally building one for my next spear fishing trip
Not too sure how I came upon this video, but I do admire your lunacy Joerg! You're clearly a specialist in this field ;)
Another amazing innovation. Keep up the good work Joerg! CHEERS!
You are always a joy to watch and helps me with my next project
This is so cool! Definitely should have some type of commercial product be made!
There was no cocking mechanism but the instructions called for a 36" steel rod with a hook to catch the 1/16" aircraft cable "string"*
*You put one end of the rod on the ground, the other hooks the cable, you put your sternum on the butt of the stock and lean hard on the rod to get the cable into the trigger latch. I weighed about 170 pounds and I had to kinda bounce on it to get it fully cocked. No idea what the draw weight really was.*
*I made bolts from fiberglass tent frame sticks, the kind with the elastic cord running through them. Glued on ferrules, nocks and fletchings. I shot it through the drivers side door of a 1968 Galaxie 500 and it landed in the passenger seat. Ah, childhood.*
You are in fact the John Moses Browning of archery. And history will confirm this.
Hy Jörg!
Frohe Weihnachten noch!
Und hoffentlich geht das Ding in Serie!
Das wär spitze!
I just love the Legend pistol. Totally rad, my friend.
Fair play , things you made is absolutely amazing ,it's a talent and a pleasure watching you ☠️
