Something I did notice about original vs 3rd party bands: if it’s got a magnetic closure, 3rd party bands usually not have partly shielded magnets. Both sides of the magnet WILL cling to magnetic surfaces of just about any kind (including stainless steel counter tops). The Apple versions will not be magnetic on the outside, only on the side that touches the part of the band it’s supposed to hold on to. About textile or the Milanese loop: the part with the opening which the band is threaded through tends to be ever so slightly too wide, causing the band to move back and forth left and right as you move. The original bands have openings just wide enough to have room for the band.
I have tried a few non-apple straps. Yet to find one that is better. Mostly having trouble with adjusting it to fit easily as my hand is bigger than my wrist. Or getting an “allergic” reaction to the band or metalclasp. The reason I am searching as I don’t like the apple brand silicone band and how it closes. Very difficult for me to adjust it to get the right snuggness
I've bought and sold a few over the years. In my watch box at the moment is a selection of Christopher Ward, Oris, Rado, Omega and a couple of cheap vintage specimens. 90% of the time, I wear a Speedy 38.
@@ConstantGeekery Solid choices... Love a good Omega. Not sure if you heard, but the speedmaster went to the moon you know... Omega rarely mention it so easy to miss that underground fact ;)
I got a Nike sports loop and a black “leather” two-piece traditional straps and I’m extremely happy with them. Price wise, they are less than half of what they bought for (we get these cheaper in Lazada or shopee or SHEIN as compared to Amazon). Apple is already one of the richest companies in the world, so I’d give some of my money to poorer people in China…
If you don't mind waiting, you should get them directly from Ali Express. Many of them are $1-3 for the exact same thing (same manufacturer.) In many cases (but not all) the quality is excellent, and well worth what you pay for them.
@@ConstantGeekery Thanks for the reply. Yes I’ve seen quite a few similar products. Thing is, reading the reviews, a lot of people have experienced skin irritations with these straps. They’re supper cheap compared to the Apple products - but maybe that comes at a price.
Thanks. I did put some links in the description, but I suspect they’ve expired by now. I’ve tried a few of these cheaper straps, and they’re all pretty good. Some are better than others of course. Amazon is the place to find them.
The problem I have with the silicone knockoffs is they are thinner than the Apple ones. The thinner silicone bands (in my experience) are prone to tearing. They also tend to get dirtier than the Apple ones. Cheap vegan leather bands also don't last long.
on the subject of apple watches, what case of size would you recommend? is it ever worth it the extra 30 bux for the 44mm one or the extra 100 for the cellular? I don’t even have LTE on my iPad Pro and can’t see how you’d need a data plan on your watch or tablet when you are probably always with your phone either way. also, does it make any sense to get an apple watch without an iphone? I’m probably picking up a Pro Max later on the year and was thinking of maybe getting a watch as well would be nice but i’ve never had a smart watch nor i care about watches at all.
The 44mm does have a slightly larger screen, but other than that, they offer the same experience. Which one you choose is entirely down to your preference. Smaller wrists will suit the smaller watch... unsurprisingly. The cellular option is useful if you don’t want to carry a phone with you when you’re exercising, but still want the ability to receive calls etc. - wasn’t an option for me because my carrier doesn’t support it. The Watch needs an iPhone. Think of it less as a watch, and more as a wrist-top computer/companion to your phone.
i bought a refurbished series 3 apple watch off of back market and a pack of 4 bands off of amazon and i got both packages today but the band package was empty 😭😭 they sent me an empty ziplock bag
The straps "all come from China" (01:15) ....cynical grin 😏... Er ... you do realise that Apple watches themselves "all come from China"? So what is your point?
Cheap products that copy designs originated elsewhere often come from companies based in China. There is a huge difference between this and manufacturing an Apple Watch.
I love the humour between you guys. Your delivery is just so casual and deadpan that half of your jokes could almost be missed.
They call that British humor
Amazing that the Apple Braided Solo Loop is the same price as the new Homepod mini. I wonder which has the higher margin!
May as well just buy a few knockoffs from AliExpress for £2 and switch to a new one when one of them gets worn out

Nice review guys, given me more faith in non-Apple straps 👏🏾

First vid watching of your! Keep up the comedy stay consistent. Love it
Would be interested to hear which mechanical watches you guys own!

To the government of China. The workers don't get much pay at all. It's the communist party and its 1,2 billion slaves practically speaking.
Great video from both! You are great together! 👍🏻👍🏻
In my experience, they were always far more uncomfortable than the Apple ones over time-I guess you get what you pay for.
I think they have upped their game. These are genuinely very good.
@@ConstantGeekery True, this was when the Series 2 was new.
Hahahaha what do you think his version of vigorous is about? great video guys.
I exclusively only buy the amazon Apple Watch bands, and haven’t had any issues with them for years. I’m not giving apple $50+ for Watch bands.

Great review guys. Looking for the Elktion straps - but it appears they’re not available anymore.
Thanks. I think they stopped selling on Amazon, but there are plenty of other brands offering similar/identical products.

The sport knockoffs are probably your best bet.
Great video gentlemen, thank you.
Good one guys. Thanks
Is it wrong that I (as a Chinese speaker) enjoy watching foreigners struggling with the Chinese words? XD
Not at all! 😂

Interesting, the Elktion is not anywhere in the US Amazon store. Might be under another brand name?
Probably. There was quite a number of different brands to choose from. I expect they’re all fairly similar.
Hey, you guys should do every video together. That would be so dope. Cheers, great content as always ❤️
Pete has his own channel, and this one is mine - but there will be plenty of joint content, don’t worry.

Next time you do a comparison video. Perhaps you should have all the original band for comparison. And know the name off the bands
The video is about comparing the alternatives. The economics of RUclips is such that it would be impossible to justify buying all the original bands.

What’s the link for the fabric loop one? The link in description dose not work for me.
Looks like it’s not available on Amazon anymore. There are lots of similar items on there though.
The Apple bands are far to expensive. Great review
Thank you 😊
I don’t understand why Apple bands are so expensive. They not made any differently than the others.
As an Apple fan cannot get away from fact they are a rip off!
Elktion is no longer available on amazon ☹️
I’m keeping that , lol
We need close-ups.
15:50 don't give them ideas lol!
Or in Canada , $70 🤦
Ouch!
Get it from aliexpress, it will blow your mind.
