Not every illness can be helped through self-medication. My brother tried that a lot too, but it never stopped the voices. When he was on his meds, he was slower and he got heavier, but he was my loving brother. When he went off his meds, he got violent and erratic and eventually stabbed me four times. Seeing it from his side, he was a lot happier coping with side effects with his family than he was in the hospital with all the barbed wire where he was forced to take his meds for so many years after. Now I have to wrestle with the side effects for drugs that I sometimes have to take for my P.T.S.D. and Major Depression from it all. Well, that and self-prescribed herb. There are very few good psych meds, and a few more that are just good enough. Each case needs to be considered individually. Ren was prescribed drugs for illnesses that he didn't even have however and that's alway going to be bad. Thanks for the reaction
