USA also had the F-15 STOL/MTD test craft, which first flew in 1988; before that there were harriers vectoring thrust for VTOL ability too also not too big of a stretch to think "lmao fuck, we gave the nozzles ankles for battroid anyways so why not use that for fighter mode maneuvers" while comparing them to movable vernier thrusters for rockets and etc
The imagination surrounding this show is unreal. UN Spacy, now US Space Force. Real time targeting from the helmet. Missles that can track independantly. High energy laser weapons. Such an epic show and I hope they make a movie or live action series funded/produced by Tom Cruise.
thrust vectoring has been understood for a long time before the F-22. In fact there were several modifications and experimental airframes used to test and push the thrust vectoring by both sides of the cold war.
Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR.1 entered service with the United Kingdom Royal Air Force in 1969, development had begun in the 1950s. Not really a surprise that Japanese artists with an interest in military aircraft knew about Vectored thrust and how it could influence air combat. Although the it was the Sea Harrier that first saw combat in 1982 during the Falklands War, it's purely coincidentally that Octoberof that same year the first episode of Super Dimensional Fortress Macross aired in Japan. The aircraft and what they could do was well known amongst military aircraft enthusiasts, the Sea Harrier combined with the F-14 Tomcat definitely influenced the artits of Studio Nue when what would become Macross was first proposed in 1980.
I watched Macross when I was a kid. Now I am watching Macross with my kids. Many things have changed over the years, but there is something that always stays the same.
I watched the whole saga and see the newer iterations one thing that stays the same to me is. Macross Class ships, Epic fighter desgines, and singing. And for me i love it.
Modern animation is too clean. The older animation really sold the settings of what was going on. The dust and wind effects. The dirt smudges on the flight deck. The after burner halos all were those extra steps that really made the older anime so much more enjoyable.
i'm pretty sure this cutscene was at least partly early digipaint so pretty much using the same production methods as modern anime nowadays just alot less refined but still generally the same, it's just that the art direction trends has changed
AWESOME VIDEO!!! As a huge fan of the series when I was a teenager seeing the Robotech anime fused with Top Gun Intro music is brilliant - WELL DONE MY FREIND!!!!!
2020 now. Still one of the best sights in anime. We should be demanding this sort from our anime and videogames again. Not more real world copy paste and virtue signaling. It's gotten drab
New macross needs to have another opening like this. Crews preparing aircrafts for take off in space or on sea with epic music like this and the amazing radio calls in the background. They make the jets the ships and eveything else amazing in the new one but they lost touch to this type of things.
Omg that was awesome!!! Now just need the full top gun opening to top it. Thanks for making this video, it made me want to watch Robotech/Macross all over again.
Now THAT was cool! It actually worked, both from production values (timing, animation, etc.) and for compliance with both the original "Top Gun" movie and with the Macross and Robotech versions of the Veritech fighters. Excellent work.
Augusto Porto My friends Jeff, Bruce and I had this little personal jokey thing we did whenever the Emotion logo came up on an anime that was showing in a viewing room at a convention. We’d always do “TV Announcer” style parody voices and intone mock seriously: *”Brought to you by those WACKY guys from Easter Island!!”* I don’t know exactly why or how the joke got started, but we always seemed to get a laugh in the room when we did it. 🤣🤣
My only issue is that I wanted it to be just a bit longer like Top Gun's start up. Hearing those engines spinning up hard like creatures screaming for their chance to dash the deck and claim the sky line is their very sustenance has never gotten old in nearly 4 decades from the original and its very fitting here. Fantastic.
This is awesome, big fan of Top Gun and Macross. This video makes macross so real. Hope you find the time now to continue and finish on the video, many fans including me would like to see the Highway to Danger Zone part!
Whether you first saw it as Robotech or Macross, there's just no beating that first story they told. Even if I want to reach into the TV and slap the protaganist for constantly simping for Minmei.
dude... this is VERY well put together! if you want more HD valkyrie footage, you could find the HD pachinko game footage where they reworked the TV intro, it would go well i think. then again, its great as-is!
Thank you for the video, its awesome. Wish the video ran longer, things were just getting good. Robotech and Top Gun perfect combo. Maybe someday a live action Robotech movie will get created.
Some posters are saying the video was pulled directly from a video game intro. If that's true, no cuts, then it's amazing that the Top Gun music lines up almost perfectly.!
I loved this story as a kid. As a writer, I'm wondering if this sort of manga and anime could be made now and still be a success. The animation, effects and other technical wizardry should not be a problem; I'm wondering if the story could still be attractive to the masses. Most of popular manga stories nowadays are tightly focused on the lives of the protaganist and his/her circle. Since no one will ever read this comment anyway, I might as well think out loud here. Most probably the situation is not whether this type of story could not be widely accepted by the masses, but either one of two things are happening. First, is that people now read manga to escape reality and its attendant stresses, and don't want shit that's too realistic. Number two is that, due to the combination of the Internet bringing more knowledge to the public and lots of crazy people are hogging the limelight, people in general have become more attuned to what is "realistic" and what is not. Let's look at point number two, and consider Naruto. The story took ages to complete (15 whole years!) and I was forced to grow up during that time, and some of the things I had to learn included world and industrial history, economic growth theories, and some engineering concepts. Now, consider one of the most iconic aspects of the Naruto story: the shinobi's uniform. Aside from the headbands bearing the village's crest, the uniforms, especially the likes of those worn by Kakashi Hatake, is an essential part of Naruto. Nevertheless, I posit that if the world of Naruto had been real (real in the sense that it every aspect of it would have to parallel our world in some way), that uniform simply could not have existed. Why not? Because (in the anime, which is in colour) it looks to be a combination of natural and synthetic materials. Make no mistake; although we are surrounded by synthetic materials in this 21st century, synthetic materials are no joke. To produce synthetic materials that are cheap enough to be incorporated into working attire, there needs to be a huge value chain spanning multiple industries across huge portions of the globe. Assuming the synthetic material is plastic, then you would need oil fields pulling oil (or fantasy world equivalent) out of the ground. Following that, you'd need pipelines or transport vessels, processing plants and refineries, huge fractionating columns, massive silos, dealer networks, distribution hubs, bulk dealers and entire industries that use up the goods that are created by this value chain. Otherwise, it simply wouldn't work. (note: fantasy world equivalents apply to all mentioned) In the anime and manga, the Leaf Village is considered one of the seats of political power on the continent. (If I remember correctly, that is. it's been a while) Yet, not only is the Leaf Village a village (duh!), it's also relatively small, and it has poor infrastructure. The main road going in and out of the village is not even paved, the potholes are so deep that enemies could hide and spring surprise attacks on passersby (yes, I know it's a technique, I'm fucking with the halfwits here). So if such a backwater settlement actually served as a major seat of political power, it doesn't really bode well for that world in general. Never mind actually being able to secure the synthetic materials to make suitable clothing for the field operatives (assuming that Leaf Village makes its own ninja outfits instead of buying it from elsewhere), how could the village afford to buy anything from outside? Afterall, economic activity is limited ramen stands and other eateries. Fine, there might have been other shops, but seriously, with the kind of shitty roads they had, what types of goods could you realistically hope to find made or sold in Leaf Village? Oh, don't even get me started on the concept of ninjas wearing freaking UNIFORMS! Why be a ninja then? The whole point of ninjas is TO NOT STAND OUT SO YOU CAN DO YOUR DIRTY DEEDS WITHOUT HINDRANCE! So, in other words, I am an old coot who, to some extent, has lost the ability to enjoy some of the manga I used to love when I was younger. If you're still reading at this point, I thank you. I would like to say that you, just like me, should get back to work and do whatever it is that you're supposed to do. Have a good day.
Considering some other existing VF, yes the Valkyrie looks a whole lot like the F-14... It even used, on at least one of the main ones, Riy Fokker's one, the color scheme of a F-14 unit
At 2:10, it’s incredible how these guys understood what thrust vectoring was back in the early 80’s! We wouldn’t see that until the F-22 Raptor!
Actually, we see that in SU-27SM Flanker.
USA also had the F-15 STOL/MTD test craft, which first flew in 1988; before that there were harriers vectoring thrust for VTOL ability too
also not too big of a stretch to think "lmao fuck, we gave the nozzles ankles for battroid anyways so why not use that for fighter mode maneuvers" while comparing them to movable vernier thrusters for rockets and etc

Yup same here. The good old day not a care in the world.
As a lifelong fan of Macross, this was... awesome. More please. Thanks.
Wow, a mashup of Macross and Top Gun that doesn't blow and is actually super amazing. I love this! Thanks for showing them how it's done.
Modern animation is too clean. The older animation really sold the settings of what was going on. The dust and wind effects. The dirt smudges on the flight deck. The after burner halos all were those extra steps that really made the older anime so much more enjoyable.
Shut up nerd
i'm pretty sure this cutscene was at least partly early digipaint so pretty much using the same production methods as modern anime nowadays just alot less refined but still generally the same, it's just that the art direction trends has changed
I am fine with both.
It depends on the budget, time and which company made it. And modern things are usually always better.
This. 💯
this still looks great in 2020 there is alot of effort placed into this single video
Jesus Christ that music fits perfectly! Please finish this some day, as I would love to see the rest of Danger Zone mixed with this game's CS!
This is so good I actually cried the first dozen times I watched it.
Thank you algorithm for showing me this amazing clip. The inclusion of Top Gun theme just makes this really awesome and made me giggle at the end.
Hit me so much in the feels!
The nostalgia!
Fits like a glove. Goosebumps all over.
AWESOME VIDEO!!! As a huge fan of the series when I was a teenager seeing the Robotech anime fused with Top Gun Intro music is brilliant - WELL DONE MY FREIND!!!!!
Edited like a champ ,great job with everything.
I love the reference. It fill like I am a kid again. Thanks for the awesome moment!!!
I remember seeing this for the first time at Anime Expo 2005. Amazing to find it here on RUclips!
This still looks great today in 2018.. So good..
it's amazing.love it.
2020 now. Still one of the best sights in anime. We should be demanding this sort from our anime and videogames again. Not more real world copy paste and virtue signaling. It's gotten drab
@@Bangcat it’s 2021 now!
@@koostory1776 Yep, now it is. Five months ago it was still 2020 but the thought holds strong.
It’s not that it still looks great…it’s that people’s standards have fallen short of what is possible.
Brilliant!!! Top gun theme for a manga movie, bloody brilliant!!!!!
2:08 the music point just seems to fit that moment so perfectly

This Space Force ad was amazing
Omg that was awesome!!! Now just need the full top gun opening to top it. Thanks for making this video, it made me want to watch Robotech/Macross all over again.
Wow, 2 min 49 sec of perfection, well done!
That's really cool. You did a great job with this.
ゲームマクロスのOPですね。F-14もVF-1もVG翼だし艦載機。TOPーGUNから置き換えても違和感が全くない。凄いものです!!
Would love to see the updated version whenever it's ready. Awesome work! 👍👍
Emocionante como en 1986...still as emotional as in 1986..gave me chills...
Nicely done!
No!!!! Why did it stop just as Danger Zone started playing! I was all F'Yeah!
exactly man, that was a shame.
Copyright on Danger Zone is aggressive.
FOR REAL! It's like getting near climax and the other just STOPS. (O_O)
'cause in the game intro, the carrier gets blasted from orbit, which would kinda change the tone.
wjrneo2 Talk about "SHAMELESS 'TEASING'!"
Now THAT was cool! It actually worked, both from production values (timing, animation, etc.) and for compliance with both the original "Top Gun" movie and with the Macross and Robotech versions of the Veritech fighters.
Excellent work.
it did. Very nice.
I mean, the opening animation from the game is clearly a shortened tribute to the Top Gun opening. It's almost shot for shot.
THIS IS THE ANIMATION that i wanted to that I dying to see in every remaster of Macross series in late 80 to 90
This was from an unfinished AMV from back in the day... Need to reconstruct and finish it in Hi-Def
+Tom Bateman I'm sure most of us would look forward to it.
Tom Bateman Mỹ e
Aye, please do!
oh yes please, is do damn cool!
You do lovely work. Worth the effort. Thank you for sharing this.
Loved this video
Dude...that was a huge tease!
Damn that emotion logo.... i feel old now :( ... good job btw :)
Yeah :\
Augusto Porto My friends Jeff, Bruce and I had this little personal jokey thing we did whenever the Emotion logo came up on an anime that was showing in a viewing room at a convention.
We’d always do “TV Announcer” style parody voices and intone mock seriously:
*”Brought to you by those WACKY guys from Easter Island!!”*
I don’t know exactly why or how the joke got started, but we always seemed to get a laugh in the room when we did it. 🤣🤣
Just about the only Anime logo that could make me feel older would be the Streamline Pictures logo or the ARTMIC logo.
CHILLS! Wow, well done!
My only issue is that I wanted it to be just a bit longer like Top Gun's start up. Hearing those engines spinning up hard like creatures screaming for their chance to dash the deck and claim the sky line is their very sustenance has never gotten old in nearly 4 decades from the original and its very fitting here.
Fantastic.
Problem here is that the very next scene in the game intro is the carrier getting straight up smoked.
Glad you played the original top gun 🎵 music.

How to ruin a legendary song with an anime
Perfect timing....just like the Top Gun opening. Great vid!!!!
Very nice!
Very good!
I am Rick Hunter, Skull Leader, and I approve this video. ^_^
Excellent, EXCELLENT work.

Its so nice to see this anime here after 18 years
Beautifully edited
That was just awesome!
Awesome opening!
カッコいい❗
でも、その後の続きが見てみたいです‼️
This is awesome, big fan of Top Gun and Macross. This video makes macross so real. Hope you find the time now to continue and finish on the video, many fans including me would like to see the Highway to Danger Zone part!
Excellent work
Worthy homage to that original AMV featuring Macross Plus and Top Gun movie and theme song.
You gotta love the stabs and flaps check.
I wish would have kept playing through danger zone. Awesome job!!

I couldn't have said it better myself. As a fan of the Macross series and the Top Gun movie, this was just beautiful to watch.
Nice mixed
I'm surprised, it actually meshes well.
I REALLY LIKE THE MUSIC
Awesome work!
Oh that is beautiful!!!!! :D WOW!!!!!

Amazing!

Beautiful.

If that's true, no cuts, then it's amazing that the Top Gun music lines up almost perfectly.!
No, "cuts" to the actual footage, just inserted some title cards to match the time.
How does this not have more views?

MORE MORE MORE!!!! Fareeking Awesome!
Una de las mejores vídeos
Hasta lágrimas se asomaron
At 2:39 the Valkyrie looks like a Boeing F-18F Super Hornet
Great video! Though I think it would be extra cooler if the scene was extended further with Danger Zone playing. But still super cool!
Fucking awesome! Well done....memories.
i loved it!
Daaannnkkk ...this scene from a game!? ...no wonder couldnt find it in any maccross anime
#bummer
"Top Gun" and Macross, "Danger Zone" and Macross Delta... Can we officially call this a thing?!
You could leave out the music, and it would still be obvious: Whoever designed the Veritech fighter had some serious Tomcat envy.
Liquid Leopard that's to saying who ever design the machine gun have musket envy or lightsaber katana envy.....
Considering some other existing VF, yes the Valkyrie looks a whole lot like the F-14... It even used, on at least one of the main ones, Riy Fokker's one, the color scheme of a F-14 unit
The Jolly Rogers of USS NIMITZ
Liquid Leopard Valkyrie, not Veritech. This ain't "Row Boat Tech", son! And yeah, most Valkyries are inspired by a real life fighter.
F-14 was the obvious first choice if you think about what it was going to be uesd for.
Good
