Song from an elderly Father lamenting that his Anger drove away husband of his beloved daughter... Which made daughter leave Father for good. And now his granddaughter comes to drag him back from darkness.
Before the Sea of Night came out from this album, Anger's Remorse was my favourite. Now they are up there together. There is so much going on in the song, love the lyrics, the nuance, the guitar solo in the middle. I especially enjoy this dramatic edge that Marko gives to the lyrics, even if you couldn't understand the lyrics you understand that something heart-breaking is happening. Love this song, it is on repeat for me. It is true that it is hard to explain what exactly you are drawn to in this song but it captures you.
Knowing the context of what this song is talking about makes it hit twice as hard and me being able to relate to the lyrics makes it hit three times as hard for me.
I’ve been a long time fan of Alan Wake, I had to play Alan Wake 2, day one! This game is a beauty journey. And I really loved the music, Poets of the Fall, has created for the game. This song for me, hit really close to my heart, since I haven’t been with my partner for over 2 years. Not that I did wrong by her, but I just felt this deep connection to this song, because of her. I couldn’t stop crying while listening to this song. Other than that, you guys need to check out, Dark Ocean Summoning, By Old Gods of Asgard. That’s a great power metal song, with lyrics still pertaining to the game. Chow yall.
Sami Järvi aka Sam Lake, the main writer for Remedy and creator of Alan Wake has written also a lot of lyrics for the songs which are sung by Poets/OGOA in their games and I believe he was involved in these songs also. Like the song Late goodbye lyrics are based on Sam’s poem. All Alan Wake II songs are licensed to Remedy, including this one.

Kiitos TEILLE, thank YOU for this reaction. I agree, he could publish his writings as poetry. In fact, not only the lyrics he comes up with are deep and poetic. I advise you to take a look at their tour diary entries written by Marko while on the road: even those are poetry at its finest! He has the ability to put even the most mundane things into such beautiful and elaborate words, you could indeed call him a contemporary poet. 😊
Poets collaborated with Sam Lake in the lyrics to fit the game. I know with the other artists that created music for Alan Wake 2, Sam brought in poems related to the story, to be tweaked for the music.
Hello, loved the reactions! also want to mention that they have made music for many games now too Alan wake 1 & 2, Control as Old Gods of Asgard, and their own name too. Game called Rochard they released song called Grinder's blues, wish might not be the best song they have ever made, but its fun song and showing up some of their versatility. First game they ever did music was Max Payne 2 called Late goodbye, and even that song 15 years ago, when most of game songs where.. fluff, they already then made such song with such meaningful lyrics actually relating to the story of the game.
They also released collection of all The Old Gods of Asgard songs they have late last year, the Vinyl are at the moments sold out on their page but should stock again in few weeks. It has 9 songs total, short intro tune The Skald Awakens and The Sea of Night are on not any games, only available on that collection. (and their RUclips page of course)☺ ruclips.net/p/OLAK5uy_ngL8nkK6kJ-J2JBVqNXhgIeWbQ8m5e58E&si=HqtDkPHfhneODETL
Thanks, it was interesting)) Sue's right, Marko's voice is something... Unusual, divine, and his lyrics can be read and read, each time realizing that you see something new. This is a real and sincere talent, when all the written feelings are conveyed so sincerely that you believe in them from the first minute. And they will not leave you indifferent. As advised above, listen to Dark Ocean Summoning, it is different from Anger's Remorse, but no less interesting. As well as The Sea of Night, there is such a variety of sounds*__*
What I love most about The Old gods songs they make that it really gives Olli Aka Ollie T to really show his skills on that Guitar, there was point where I almost forgot he was there, Like the album Jealous gods he had so little impact that I think they felt sorry and let him do song called "Rogue" which was purely instrumental without any singing. On these songs he seem to have so much fun with the soloes, I think he really enjoyed his role as "fat"Bob Balder in these games, living his life as Guitar hero from 70's and 80's. 😊

The actual context behind the song is much worse than that.

There a book for Alan Wake literally as a psychological thriller writer by Rick Burroughs.
