The pacing, script, acting, violence, and storytelling are all blended (shaken?) in the right amounts. From the badass opening song ("Arm yourself / because no one else here will save you") right down to the catharsis of the final scene and a *perfect* last line of dialog - 10/10. Nailed it.

The 2006 version is very overrated, it's too much of a conventional EON film similar to Goldeneye, same director, same production. The Bond franchise is really formulaic. Tarantino having full control would have done something more different with it.

@theurbanyouth completely disagree. One of the reasons it was so well received was that it doesn't feel or play like any EON Bond film before it. Also, the look is markedly different to GoldenEye, even though it has the same director and cinematographer.

@@davidjames579 Nothing was different, all the things in it had been done before, like the serious Bond was done before with Timothy Dalton, and Bond losing a serious romance was done before with On Her Majesty's Secret Service. And it had a lot of action sequences like the rest of the Bond movies, it felt like a typical EON Bond film mixed with in with imitating the Jason Bourne series. I've seen all of them, I noticed they have the same formulaic pattern. It would have been more interesting with a completely different production company and different director like Tarantino, which was something that almost happened.

If you’re interested, Michael France’s original Goldeneye script is online to read. It’s darker and more serious, so you can’t really picture Brosnan in the role. The 1967 Casino Royale movie was such an acid trip! It had a few moments but to me was mostly incoherent until I caught onto it appearing more like a movie of several short episodes of characters. Pierce Brosnan deserved a better final good Bond movie, I actually liked Die Another Day more than most, but it still wasn’t a great film. Setting it in the 60s would’ve been a bold and interesting take on Bond and having that be Brosnan’s final Bond movie would have been a good send off. But overall I personally prefer the modern 2000s Casino Royale that we got as it is one of my favorite Bond movies. (Also that office parkour scene!)

Hey Bullets & Blockbusters. That was an amazing and interesting story of Quentin Tarantino's unmade "Casino Royale" film that you covered. Great job!
I have another suggestion for you. Have you ever seen Bill Bixby's and Lou Ferrigno's "The Incredible Hulk" TV series from the 1970's? Well, after the series got cancelled, there were some television films that tried to not only revive the series, but also set up possible spin-off shows for Thor, Daredevil, She-Hulk, and even Nicholas Hammond's Spider-Man to expand on its franchise. Unfortunately, these projects never got made. But I'm wondering if you can do a video that covers Bill Bixby's and Lou Ferrigno's "The Incredible Hulk" expanded universe like:
    - Eric Allan Kramer's "Thor" TV show spin-off
    - Rex Smith's "Daredevil" TV show spin-off
    - "She-Hulk" TV show spin-off
    - 1980's Nicholas Hammond's "The Amazing Spider-Man" revival (crossover with "The Incredible Hulk" TV series)
    - 1990's "The Revenge of Incredible Hulk" film with Gerald Di Pego's script
Once again, I hope to see more of your projects. Take care.

Tarantino's account of this project is very bizarre, and I'd argue at times crosses the line between exaggeration and outright lie. The reason he's associated with Casino Royale is because Miramax tried to get the rights to the book in the mid 90s (which wasn't an uncommon thing for studios to try and do incidentally). They presumably wanted Tarantino to direct if they ever got it or perhaps Tarantino expressed some interest in the idea. They couldn't attain them due to a deal EON had with the Fleming estate and nothing ever came of it. That's literally as far as his Casino Royale ever went.
For the next ten years Tarantino would make some very strange claims about this project during interviews under the idea that it was his 'unmade Bond movie' - and keep in mind this was never an official project. Talking about the novel in 1997, he claimed the story ends with Bond killing Vesper (he doesn't, she kills herself), that Fleming's Bond is some sort of Mickey Spillane type character (I wouldn't quite say that, although it's relatively subjective), that the book takes place in the 60s (it doesn't, it was written in the 50s), and he even implied the novel used first person narration (it doesn't). I personally don't believe he's ever read the book.
Fast forward to 2004/2005 and Brosnan's contract as Bond is not renewed, the rights to Fleming's first novel are back with EON, and Casino Royale is the next planned Bond movie. This is where we get Tarantino's idea of using an older Brosnan set after Majesty's. It's completely hypothetical and nothing more than him spitballing during interviews. Clearly it wasn't how he'd have approached this project in the mid-90s. The idea to adapt Casino Royale had nothing to do with him despite his claims, and he's never been considered or approached to direct an official Bond movie as far as I'm aware. As the video states there's a long and drawn out backstory to the rights, and the Casino Royale we got was an attempt to revitalise the franchise and go back to the character's roots.
I'm a fan of many of Tarantino's movies, but it's laughable to try and claim such a minimal association with Bond directly impacted the franchise.

Tomorrow Never Dies was fun, but felt weaker than those two.
Craig’s Bond was solid, but I didn’t love his movies. Casino Royale was great but some of his others felt more personal for Bond which felt like a strange creative choice to me.

@ TND was seen as a bit of a non-event at the time but history has shown it to be a great standalone Bond. No silly arc shoehorned in, just a good flick with some great action, gadgets and a solid story. That’s what the 007 series to do best. Used.

Charles Feldman's Casino Royale went through a lot of script drafts to do it as serious before deciding to do it as a spoof. Feldman had a lot more money than Saltzman and Broccoli so hired the 'Shakespeare Of Hollywood' Ben Hecht to write several drafts. All were apparently quite dark, and actually would have struggled to have got past the censors. It has been said that they were close to the 2006 film, despite being written in the early 60's. Feldman had legendary macho drama director Howard Hawks set to helm. Supposedly Hawks dropped out after seeing Dr No and deciding that he couldn't compete with EON.
EON had considered doing Casino Royale after Thunderball, as a collaboration much as that film ws with an existing rights holder. After EON bailed, Feldman went behind their backs and offered the film to Connery, to lend some authenticity and false continuity. Connery said he wouldn't do it for less than a Million Dollars, a then colossal figure, that only Elizabeth Taylor had been paid for Cleopatra. Feldman baulked at that and it's said this was when he decided to make it a spoof to "ruin" the EON films. However rather than critique the EON films or make them laughable, his comedy instead veers all over the place in its attempts to do jokes and skits, coming across as just a desperate laugh attempt. The film went over budget and cost more than any Bond film at that time. Feldman said it would have been cheaper to pay Connery a Million Dollars to do a serious film after all.

Brosnan didn't need to do a 5th film if DAD was rewritten much better post Bond's capture/release - even then the pre title music action sequence (Moon's Base) would have been changed in my mind.
No Jinx, Graves, Frost, R, etc...or freakshow Madonna; However I would keep the two Moon characters, rewrite Zao as an ally (a relative of Wai Lin) plus make Bond completely rogue; fading into the shadows towards the end - instilling a sense of ambiguity as to whether Bond is either killed or 'killed' off.
Brosnan IMO still had the acting chops and intensity to portray a hard arse, old school Bond (not Dalton or Craig level), but in a way that still retained some of the Brosnan Bond wit, charm and character.

Giving any bond film an R rating or an artsy director like Tarantino would have destroyed the franchise. Bond has only ever needed to be PG-13 due to the invention of the rating and the standards changing but he works best in the realm of PG-13, showing less but leaving more to the imagination, and allowing bond to have more violence, language, and sex goes against the fundamentals of the franchise and would result in moving away from the basics of bond onto a more violent and unrecognizable bond. And bond is centered around simplicity in filmmaking styles so trying to fix something that isn’t broken with an artsy director would wreck the franchise.

Timothy Dalton turned down the part as he thought at age 22 he was too young to play Bond. Henry Cavill was also 22 when it was decided he was too young. Bond really needs to be in his early 30's at the start as he has risen to the rank of Commander in The Royal Navy before then.

I know most of Die Another Day was outlandish as you say but isn't the ice palace based on real life ice hotels just dialed up to supervillian levels? I think there's one in Canada and Sweden, and building a ice palace is far easier to do than what most of the villains in the roger moore era did like building a space station or an underwater base or an oil tanker that can open it's bow to capture other vessels without immediately sinking.
