Sm took the “two main vocalists” role truly serious with the distribution of Jessica & Taeyeon
Actually thats how most 1-2nd gen used to be. The Main vocalists + Leads got all the lines because they were the ones that could actually sing live. The Centers/ dancers/ visuals got few lines but always the center for lives, dance breaks, and thumbnails/album covers because that's their position.
Now a days the positions feel interchangeable because fans want everyone to sing equally. As a result 80% of lines go to idols who can't sing and just look pretty or dance and now no one sings live hardly anymore. Main vocalists are kinda going out and aren't even popular.
@@epmeats main vocalists actually have never been popular, Taeyeon became more popular due to be the first member with a solo artist career + angelic visuals and Jessica was more known as the “Ice princess” visual, If you look at other 2nd gen groups, you’ll see than main vocalists aren’t usually the most popular in their groups, it’s not a thing that started with fans of this gen
@Epm I have to disagree as Park Bom is 2nd most popular in 2ne1 back then after dara while Hyolyn is also after Bora. Vocalist back then have decent amount of lines so more people still leans towards them tho the center will still got all the attention but still the main vocalist will not rank last. But nowadays since the line is somehow equally distributed and sometimes the most popular will get the most amount of lines that will give more spotlight to the idol so main vocalist will push way back to the ranking in terms of popularity.

despite being an SNSD stan for 13 years I didn't realise just how much Jessica sang, it really puts it into perspective even years later the impact it had after she left.
Really? 13years u never realised that jesica is one of main vocalist of snsd along with taeyeon, so ofc they got much more part of singing.
Only good impact we got from her depart is snsd was saved and survived til now. If she had big impact for a grup with 8 other member in it(as u suggested), she should easily make a successful solo career. Too bad she doesnt have dedication to the craft, such a waste of talent
@@donant11 She has been blacklisted in the entertainment industry by SM, meaning she can't promote her music on the radio / music shows / award shows / televison. SM has done this both with her and JYJ (formerly TVXQ members). So Jessica decided to mostly focus on other things with occasional music drops, since she can't do her job as an idol properly with the entire industry being afraid to work with her or give her any type of platform. She herself said she wants to do it but can't, and now we saw that's true since she's redebuting as an idol in China through that survival show. Saying she has no dedication to the craft when her former company put an embargo on her career in S. Korea makes no sense.

@@donant11 you're really ignorant to what happened. Her music was blacklisted in korea, which is where her main fans are based. If she isn't popular abroad, she wouldn't have won in Chinas idol show. Her brand, although not performing well financially (God knows what is behind the scene) is still pretty well known.a person can only do so much.

To anyone saying bad about tiffany might be living in 2017 and below eras lmao. Have you seen and heared her recently? After debuting in USA, she improved a lot. She now shines using her true vocal color and that is the rich/bold tone she always has. Look at her recent lives and musical perforamnces. That girl can sing,sing. She can now hit high notes effortless. Before, she always strain her vocals but now she has found her technique. No one in SNSD has the flavor tiffany has..that sassy/raspy/diva way of singing. I love her voice more than taeyeons (her style is more on my liking but taeyeon is still the best vocalist in GG). She's an important member same as seo and jessica. Tiffany brings flavor to snsd songs.. and she the best more than ever.

thanks so much for this! SNSD got me into kpop in 2012 and jessica is my first kpop bias before i even knew what that was :) SNSD have so many underrated gems in their discography!! obviously SJJD is perfect but i feel like people don’t give enough respect to some of their korean b-sides as well… songs like girlfriend and express 999 for example. also i was honestly expecting sooyoung to jump a little higher with the japanese albums but yuri actually got a lot more then i remember. also i wish yoona got more lines in general, i really like her voice and her solo songs are so soothing 💙 sorry for rambling lol, i never write comments like this but i’m just so nostalgic and happy that the queens are back. :)
Ooh Girlfriend and Express 999 are great songs! I recently binged their discography for the first time, and I was blown away by the amount of songs I fell in love with! Mr. Mr., Lion Heart, and Holiday Night have so many great b-sides that I’m constantly replaying 👏🏾.
I was so surprised that Yuri was SHYY’s lead vocal until around 2014-15, though I love her voice too so that was nice to see haha. When the Wind Blows by Yoona is unexpectedly one of my fave solo songs from SNSD, it’s so gentle and beautiful 😭💗.
I think they’ve definitely done a great job of showcasing their skills in the newest album, the bops just don’t stop!

its been 8 years and Jessica at #4 🤯 and Seohyun barely pass her in line (obvious if you dont count TTS)
and it took them 3 full albums to pass her. Jessica really has lots of lines NOT including all the harmonies she did which she and tae still have the most esp in Choruses.
If the poster include the harmony, background vocals, etc. Jessica would still be above tiffany and seohyun even after she left.

In a lot of songs I would have liked to hear some of the members' voices more, for example Sunny or Hyoyeon (Their vocals are quite special and impressive). Their duration makes me sad. Sometimes it's Sooyoung too, but at least after a while she gradually has the opportunity to show more and has the right position for her abilities.
yeah i agree. In their last comebacks i feel like Sooyoung got the opportunity to show that she is a good, solid vocalist but at the same time it's nothing too special or groundbreaking so she always got the right amount of lines in the dance line

@@chavod1801 yea, but i think it depends upon the company , sm centers are usually rappers and visuals so they have no lines since they produce vocal based songs , for yg or cube center's usually get loads of lines , for jyp centers are always usually dancer and either a vocalist or rapper so depends upon their concept who get's more lines .
Their line distrubution was always based on vocal ability and who was up to the task of delivering the song the best. It is one of their biggest strengths.

@@drewdidenot7722 YES the hate for Tiffany was so wrong and misplaced. I think Jessica stans were so bitter after she left they put all that resentment on Tiffany because Taeyeon liked singing with Tiffany more when SM had Pushed Taengsic as the vocal duo. As a result I think SM neglected alot of vocal opportunities for Jessica too, but again Tiffany was blamed for that.
Nothing can undo all the beautiful things Jessica contributed to GG, her voice was so special, but someone had to fill that gap when she left. And Tiffany, Taeyeon, Seohyun and Sunny all did a great job filling in.
I think people hate her because SM kinda overreated her, she went from one extreme being treated as subvocal and after debuting in TTS she went to another extreme being treated as main vocalist with lines that doesn't really suit her, i.e some highnotes like in Mr.Mr or Lion Heart. And most of them were out of her level, could have been easily by another member.
Theferore, SM tried a lot to highlighted her, you know giving her so many lines, even when she couldn't reach it live, or also giving her so many Jessica's lines...
And in the case of Jessica, I don't think she took her place. But it's true SM started pushing Taeny instead of Taengsic, and Jessica didn't shine as she did prior to 2011, this is really clear in Love&Peace album, e.g. That didn't happen with Taeyeon, since she always got prominent lines and highnotes.
I don't consider that is Tiffany fault and neither she deserves being hated. But there are some facts that are undeniable

They didn't do her any favors with those decisions, and the fact that she developed vocal nodules in their peak years shows that she was overworked by them beyond her capabilities, and that's sad. I also don't love her voice doing Jessica's lines...HOWEVER, her tone is the most beautiful (together with Tae) out of all the members, and it's true that it's pushed, but it gives the impression of being powerful, who doesn't love that? Her tone made their later discography what they were, and I love that, they sounded more mature and powerful, even if I love Jessica way more out of the other girls. To me Jessica always shine in the group (when she was there ofc), she didn't lose anything, she was their main vocal with Tae until their removal, she have nothing to prove, she was still one of the most amazing members and her charisma was everything to make the audience scream, it's just that Tiff, Seo and the dance line (even Sunny) got better by each passing year and they were given more lines, which to me is fair, not everything is gonna be TaengSic, it would be unfair for the others, they also work hard to receive better lines and treatment, people are just mad that Jess didn't have everything, but she was still highly considered. We still have lots of TaengSic in their later songs (with OT9), just check Divine's last chorus 😍😍 or Jessica's solo chorus in Goodbye, those are all from 2014... What I'm trying to say, let's appreciate everyone equally without competitivity, it's the same group for God's sake, every member has their own weaknesses and strenghts, no one is the best at everything.

I feel like this make sense than most groups, at least. Obviously, the main vocalists are going to get the lion share of the lines followed by lead vocalists, dance line, and the least rappers.

poor hyo really got short end of the stick for line distribution virtually most of all her career until forever 1 album came out.., losing co main vocal Jessica really affected post 9/30 2014 SNSD songs, OT8 SNSD sounds different but gave the dance line more chance to have more lines.
Honestly considering the first are main vocalist, the next 3 are lead vocalist and the last 4 are sub vocalists this distribution makes complete sense (Untill Jessica leaves).There probably isnt a large difference in individual songs but there is a differnece for a reason and it adds up
You should’ve counted the OT9 version of Show Girls (Japanese) and you also missed Chain Reaction, Divine and Girls. Also, I think it’d be fairer if you excluded non-group songs from the albums like 7989, One Year Later, Day By Day, and Lost In Love. But still, thank you.

I am sorry_not_sorry for the toxic comment, but I think that this video yet again shows that TaengSic was, in fact, the signature sound of the group. Once I saw a comment I tend to agree with more and more over the years that with the absence of Jessica, the SNSD became Taeyeon with some (strong) back vocals... Back when Jessica was there, SNSD seemed way more balanced. The issue here (a good one, though) is with Tae: her voice is the best, she is the 2nd (or sometimes the first) most popular member, the main vocal and a good visual too. Maybe, making a true 2nd main vocal when Jessica left would have been a good decision, who knows?
SM had the best vocal duo in kpop history. Taeyeon with the power in her vocals and Jessica mixed beauty and sweetness in her vocals and it became something pleasant to listen to. Unfortunately SM did not know how to take advantage of this.
@@moonchoa300 I’d disagree. They cashed quite a bit on it while it lasted. Jessica has a fantastic, unique voice, her high notes are amazing. Yet, she is not SM’s typical ‘Main voice material’ (Taeyeon, Wendy or Ning Yi) as she is not as insanely stable and resilient. In fact, she was never trained to be the main vocalist. Despite that, SM managed to see a huge value in making Jessica the main vocal alongside Taeyeon (SM’s typical main voice material). Thus, they did know what to do with TaengSic - they created it.

Can you guys just imagine the amount of HOURS Jessica must’ve spent in the studio recording these songs along with Taeyeon. Her voice was undeniably a critical aspect of SNSD’s songs from the background vocals to the layers of harmonies. Truly a Main Vocalist of one of the most respected and popular Koop Groups.

5 years ago some people might be dissapointed because TiffSooSeo left SM. but i guess we know now that their choices are right choice, at least for the 'real' fans of GG.
- GG has 4 member as actress. do you think they will shine individually while being in the same company? i dont think so. for 10 years they were overshadowed by Yoona. dont get me wrong, im happy for her. but as a fan of GG as a whole, i cant stand that. Im happy Soo and Seo can be this successful on their own now and most importantly people start to recognize their skill individually.
- 'Villain' is a proof of how amazing Tiffany is now. on the last eps of STT, Tae said Tiff has grown to be a better artist. SM is a big company that has been a really picky in terms of song. we all know Tiff, Seo, Soo and Yul has tried to give their songs to SM all this time but they'are all being declined. but this time, SM accepted Tiff's song. it was monumental. after 2017, she got the freedom. she went back to US, studying music and acting, made her international debut as a singer and even touring. in 2020, she went back to Korea. casted on a famous musical and even casted on a drama with big names on it. its good to see that Tiff finally can do anything she wants now. Tiffany is loyal but she needs freedom.
- Now, there are 2 members in SM (HyoTae) who are active as singers/performers with different style of music. there are 2 members in SM (YoonYul) who are active as actress. and 1 member (Sun) in Variety show.
- With this, the members can shine individually and even shine brighter in group.

She was kicked out of the group even though she signed another seven year contract.
She was kicked due to giving more attention to her fashion business, causing her to miss schedlues

If she ever was kicked out because she was so focused on her business, then why would she sign with sm again to be with snsd? Jessica never missed out any promotions during that time, she was their in every promotions such as concerts amidst her reality show with krystal.
