Apparently all the Electric originating in Kanto types can be hurt by Bruno but that is that somehow he is more a Ground Elite 4 member with pretensions of being a Fighting Elite 4 member and that Electric types at that point have no move diversity.
When it comes to the move's levels, you can see a pattern in Gen 1 learnsets. Besides Level 1 moves, they almost never learn anything before, either the level they evolve at, or the level they first become available in the wild. Since Croagunk evolves at Level 37, everything after level 1 before Amnesia should be missing.
It was done that way because you weren't intended to obtain those Pokemon before that point. Plus breeding wasn't a thing so you wouldn't normally get those Pokemon at lower levels so it was like, why would we need to give those Pokemon level-up moves before then? Evolutions I believe share some level-up moves compared to their pre-evolutions though there are more base level moves for the evolved forms. Gen 1 was wild.
2:00 idk man, it kinda looks like Toxicroak’s got the “Did somebody order a pizza with extra sausage” Stache. He’s about to get his pp depleted if you catch my drift.
At first, I was surprised that you didn’t give Toxicroak water gun and bubblebeam, just because it looks like it should get those moves. Then, I looked at the various movepools on Bulbapedia and, wow, there was clearly an intention in the design to avoid any substantial interaction with water-type moves. I find this pretty surprising and interesting for a frog Pokemon.
Gen 1 physical moves are so silly. Body Slam is so pushed compared to everything else you can do at Vermillion City, and ground moves are so much better than bug, poison, fighting, ghost, etc.
Honestly, I could see them having gone either way with Toxicroak's Special stat, using SpDef puts its BST around Sandslash/Golduck while using Sp.Atk puts it at Starters/Kingler/Gengar/Water Fossils, and neither feel unrealistic. Even if fighting types ussually have trash special....
Scott, I really enjoy these unique introductions and factoids on all your videos. You really give everything a lot of thoughts. (True to the name of your channel!)
Happy to see you use some 1-hit KO strats, it’s super R&G but so many runs get hard walled at Sandslash or Magnaton and you end up having multiple resets to luck anyhow be interesting to see how some perform against the champion with its inclusion for some of the runs.
Seriously, for a guy who's 4x weak against a really strong type, has bad stabs, and is fast enough to invalidate setups with crits, he did really well.
Toxicroak is one of my favorite Pokemon and almost every play through I do I almost always use one. So pumped to see this video!!! My lil amphibian friend
It obviously makes sense that Toxicroak doesn't learn moves early, but I definitely think this contributes a ton to its questionable earlygame. Imagine this thing crushing rocks and normals with Low Kick, on top of having Poison Sting for bugs. And Swift to ignore Sand Attack shenanigans? At least Swords Dance is there for the later parts of the game.
4:21 please Scott, remember gen 1 jank too, like aerodactyl not getting rock slide. I have severe doubts that toxicroak would get dig and amnesia if it was in gen 1. I know they make sense, but they feel really out of place.
Ngl I was hoping that Scott would go with the fissure sandslash into mega-kick alakazam strategy for the champion, but both strats are effective. My proposed way has the downside of mega kick accuracy with the upside of getting to exeggcutor at full health for easier setup. It was cool to get a shout-out, and I’d like to do my own. Austin won the community race using confuse ray against the champion’s sandslash. His bag was full when Giovanni tried to give him fissure, but he must’ve had a sixth sense that confuse ray might come in handy and it allowed him to cheese out the champion fight without an OHKO move or a gen1 miss 😂
I'm surprised no one mentioned the 4 consecutive critical hits versus Lorelei. The odds of that with Toxicroak's crit rate is .07%. Toxicroak was trying its hardest to throw that fight.
Poison and Fighting are my tied favourite types. _Fighting due to my Pro-Wrestling addiction and Poison for its underdog type status _*_before Gen 6!_* as such Toxicroak being backported tickles *_so many_* of my fancies! Let's get it!
IIRC, if there was a move in Gen 1 that could force a switch, a lot of trainers could be made to have basically infinite items because they don't have the logic that Agatha and like one other trainer have that prevents them from doing that. Granted, Brock is the only one I can really think of where it would have any kind of marginal use outside of a luck manipulation scenario.
Hey Scott! Little piece of feedback for the backports, there is a 3rd option when it comes to the special stat! It's technically possible to make the pokemon play with its intended feel if you play around with its special, hp and defense values accordingly: - Keep spc as their modern spA - Lower max hp if they have lower spD - Raise def to account for the lowered max hp Easily done with a formula you can apply to each mon! Thoughts?
Due to some of the randomness of Gen 1, they probably would've given Toxicroak fireblast as well. Might want to adjust the mindset for future back ports lol.
"I am so glad I don't have Fissure." Don't tell me, Scott. There is no way in Gen 1 that you're gonna need Fissure. Edit: Wow. Never thought I'd see the day.
I think this is the first time I disagree with the special stat in a backport. Considering toxicroak gets nasty plot, lots of special moves, and a pretty decent special attack stat, I would have gone with the higher spatk stat as its intended to be a mixed attacker
i like what you did with the moveset, but i would have put sludge at lower level, i understand its the best poison move in gen 1 and your substituting it for sludge bomb, but i would have put it around when muk and weezing learn it. that double weakness to psychic is scary in kanto, but lets see what it can do!
39:04 A little note on probability: is it really that important? If you’re trying to shoot for best times, or the opponent is a huge threat to solve, taking the less probable but more rewarding option is definitely worth it. Probability alone doesn’t make something better if the difference in odds is only minor.
0:55 oooo arrow changes 14:25 perfect run ends here and 40:48 for the follow up, F in the chat Press F to pay respects 15:44 oooo 69 nice... but ya missed it 😞
You know what the funniest part about Amnesia is for this Solo Back Port? Look at the moveset you've given it... No seriously... XD Would 100% be a Gamefreak thing to do to give a Pokemon Amnesia without any special attacking moves.
well im curious if lick will ever become the answer for alakazam and exegutor, also, how many pokemon could impove by using fissure/horn drill tm or mons with guillotine, all 3 of em. the questions never end.
I think these OHKO moves are more on Scott’s radar now. They legitimately are the fastest way for some pokemon to beat the game, even without getting above average luck
Hey Scott, quick question - if Alakazam is a trade evolution, how do you think Rival 6 got his Alakazam? Did he trade Kadabra and re-traded it, or did he trade it for a different Kadabra?
It just occurred to me. Has he mentioned having trouble with Jessie and James in these yellow play throughs? It seems like they are kinda non-entities in these games.
They’re a threat sometimes for physically frail pokemon, especially unevolved mons. Jesse and James in mount moon and in pokemon tower caused me resets with bellsprout
I know its not on the movepool. But Flavour wise I would say Slash could also fit on there. Seeing as Toxicroak got the fitting claws. Though yeah Bodyslam probably works better.
It must be extremely difficult to backport pokemon and not add in new moves, mostly because of how limited the movepool is! Love myself some good Poison Types, too bad they suck ass in gen 1. At least my favorite pokemon Crobat doesnt' get hit by ground moves, but a pokemon like Toxicroak? 4x damage to psychic? along with the extremely common ground type weakness? sounds like torture. But it looks like Toxicroak will still do pretty ok. B-tier? maybe? YESS right~!
"The Slowpoke that follows has Confusion. I'm anticipating this-"
SCOTT's Anticipation made it shudder!
It's honestly just so endearing how absolutely head over heels Scott is for his wife.
Sweet a Pokemon that faints when a fast psychic user goes onto the field.
Totally not an problem at all for Gen 1. Not at all
What could possibly go wrong?
35:53 I don't think I will ever get over the Surge and Bruno slander. The intentional exclusions are an experience to behold 😭🤣
It'll never not be funny. Surge can be scary if you're a slow or weak Water or Flying type though.

Did not expect Hank to show up in this video. Gave me a jump scare.
Dftba!!
It is spooky month after all.
2:00 idk man, it kinda looks like Toxicroak’s got the “Did somebody order a pizza with extra sausage” Stache. He’s about to get his pp depleted if you catch my drift.
I really like the lick/astonish. Against Brock it literally has the same effect. A para is basically a flinch on Brock!
Oh baby, here we go! Bringing attention to the move fissure. You’re going to use it, aren’t ya? Lol well well well…. Look at that!
24:45 I think that’s the first time Giovanni used a Guard Spec, and it actually benefitted him.
I think you perfected the art of the gen 1 backsprite
At first, I was surprised that you didn’t give Toxicroak water gun and bubblebeam, just because it looks like it should get those moves. Then, I looked at the various movepools on Bulbapedia and, wow, there was clearly an intention in the design to avoid any substantial interaction with water-type moves. Gen 1 physical moves are so silly. Body Slam is so pushed compared to everything else you can do at Vermillion City, and ground moves are so much better than bug, poison, fighting, ghost, etc.
Unless you're a Hitmonlee, then you get all the Fighting type moves.
It does have a role as a Special Attacker to be fair since it gets Nasty Plot and has a passable enough Special Attack.
I saw you're past 70k now. Congratulations. Looking forward to whatever the next mythical run is.
Scott, I really enjoy these unique introductions and factoids on all your videos. You really give everything a lot of thoughts. (True to the name of your channel!)
I love how the thumbnail looks like Toxicroak is petting Pikachu 😅
Adorable
This was a fun Mon to run during the monthly community race.
I made it to 46:17, and no Scott, YOU'RE INCREDIBLE!
Happy to see you use some 1-hit KO strats, it’s super R&G but so many runs get hard walled at Sandslash or Magnaton and you end up having multiple resets to luck anyhow be interesting to see how some perform against the champion with its inclusion for some of the runs.
I just realized that you use gyarados's horn as an arrow
Seriously, for a guy who's 4x weak against a really strong type, has bad stabs, and is fast enough to invalidate setups with crits, he did really well.
I feel like you should have 100k already. You have some of the best pokemon videos ive seenc
I just love that Venomoth pointer
Your devotion to lord dome does not go unnoticed
Toxicroak is one of my favorite Pokemon and almost every play through I do I almost always use one. So pumped to see this video!!! My lil amphibian friend
People need to sub to this man, holy cow
It obviously makes sense that Toxicroak doesn't learn moves early, but I definitely think this contributes a ton to its questionable earlygame. Imagine this thing crushing rocks and normals with Low Kick, on top of having Poison Sting for bugs. And Swift to ignore Sand Attack shenanigans? At least Swords Dance is there for the later parts of the game.
Was NOT expecting the sudden Hank Green cameo lol
I like the back sprite he looks asleep with a creepy smile
Good job on move selection if you use doublekick instead of low kick you can put it on earlier like with the nidos.
I'm a minute in and making a prefiction that Toxicroak does better than you'd expect.
Scott, I love you
Scott, i think this guy loves you
Scott, this guy might love you
Scott, there’s a chance this guy loves you
I love you all
Peepee poopoo
4:21 please Scott, remember gen 1 jank too, like aerodactyl not getting rock slide. I have severe doubts that toxicroak would get dig and amnesia if it was in gen 1. I know they make sense, but they feel really out of place.

Brock's Crogunk is mad at you for evolving it 😂
the back sprite kinda looks like an evangelion
I'm surprised no one mentioned the 4 consecutive critical hits versus Lorelei. The odds of that with Toxicroak's crit rate is .07%. Toxicroak was trying its hardest to throw that fight.
Oooh, Froggy time.
Also, Deadpool & Wolverine was a fun time. Happy you had fun with your wife!
Oh nice!
Used this guy in BDSP, surprise favorite, like top 50, Pokemon since then.
Poison and Fighting are my tied favourite types. _Fighting due to my Pro-Wrestling addiction and Poison for its underdog type status _*_before Gen 6!_* as such Toxicroak being backported tickles *_so many_* of my fancies! Let's get it!

Fissure is only useless in a Challenge run. In a speedrun with x accuracy, its so good
It’s more accurate than fishing for crits!
Omg Yes! My favorite Pokémon of all time thank you Scott!!!!!
I can't wait for the truly difficult Moveset challenge that is 10% Zygarde Form for when PLZA comes out 🤭
Happy to see Toxicroak did so well😁😊

I love Toxicroak, I hope the run isn't too bad!
I think Volcanion backport will be interesting.
Due to some of the randomness of Gen 1, they probably would've given Toxicroak fireblast as well. Might want to adjust the mindset for future back ports lol.
Toxicroak is my venomoth, I pretty frequently forget it's secondary typing is fighting. End up confusing it for dark or ground instead.
I guessed wrong that it would had been Grafaia because Aye Ayes look weird. But i like Toxicroak quite a bit.
Banger after banger
I always liked how the red line on toxicroacks face looks like a mustache lol
Absolutely love the backsprite
Toxicroak is one of my favorite Pokémon I never used
Do you add these future gen pokemon into the old game ROMs yourself? Do you make these ROMhacks available in a discord or elsewhere?
Toxicroak was one of my favorite Pokemon but I was never able to fit it in a team when doing a playthrough
"I am so glad I don't have Fissure."
Don't tell me, Scott. There is no way in Gen 1 that you're gonna need Fissure.
Edit: Wow. Never thought I'd see the day.

I’m sooo mad that I made the connection to poison frog to most unnatural creature and yet I didn’t predict toxicroak 😭😭😅
i like what you did with the moveset, but i would have put sludge at lower level, i understand its the best poison move in gen 1 and your substituting it for sludge bomb, but i would have put it around when muk and weezing learn it. that double weakness to psychic is scary in kanto, but lets see what it can do!
The fact that the only usable fighting moves in Gen 1 was submission with: 80 power, 80 accuracy, & recoil damage was really bad
That's because Hi Jump Kick (the only Fighting move that could legitimately be considered good in Gen 1) was hogged by Hitmonlee.
7:28 then I wonder what the bare minimum attack stat you need to consistently deal one damage to the onix and even the geodude with poison sting
Bruno is not a hiker. He is clearly a black belt. If you say otherwise, you would be wrong.
39:04 A little note on probability: is it really that important? If you’re trying to shoot for best times, or the opponent is a huge threat to solve, taking the less probable but more rewarding option is definitely worth it. Would 100% be a Gamefreak thing to do to give a Pokemon Amnesia without any special attacking moves.
Love the scishow clip!
Gym leader Matt would like a word..he says only big channels say Lt. Surge is a joke.
4:37 I think you forgot about bonemarang. Also tough claws boots contact moves by 30% but I wouldn’t expect you to know that
You could've two-shot Sandslash using Submission & then Sludge vs Alakazam & then healed with Rest
well im curious if lick will ever become the answer for alakazam and exegutor, also, how many pokemon could impove by using fissure/horn drill tm or mons with guillotine, all 3 of em. the questions never end.

Hey Scott, quick question - if Alakazam is a trade evolution, how do you think Rival 6 got his Alakazam? Did he trade Kadabra and re-traded it, or did he trade it for a different Kadabra?
Scott do you have your release schedule up anywhere? I watch every video still, but I like looking forward to the Gen 1 Pokemon in their original game
He keeps the release schedule under lock and key. Occasionally he announces upcoming videos on his discord page
It just occurred to me. Has he mentioned having trouble with Jessie and James in these yellow play throughs? It seems like they are kinda non-entities in these games.
They’re a threat sometimes for physically frail pokemon, especially unevolved mons. Jesse and James in mount moon and in pokemon tower caused me resets with bellsprout
i think its the first pokemon with amnesia but without any special moves
Talk about a "sticky" situation
Do the frames you save keeping dig for escape justify the extra frames you expend using it instead of earthquake?
I love his design
I know its not on the movepool. But Flavour wise I would say Slash could also fit on there. Seeing as Toxicroak got the fitting claws. Though yeah Bodyslam probably works better.
I uh never knew toxicroak had claws
Wait. what SIZE of Pumpkaboo? that's very important. The faster smaller pumpkaboos with less hp, or the slower slightly bulkier giant pumpkaboo?
It must be extremely difficult to backport pokemon and not add in new moves, mostly because of how limited the movepool is! Love myself some good Poison Types, too bad they suck ass in gen 1. Yeah baby I love Toxicorak
35:07 "I didn't mention last time that the spearow has peck" you did mention it the last time
Thanks Scott's wife for these October !
Alakazam is allot faster wondering how we’re gonna deal with him or if stat xp is that strong
100k subscribers for Scott❤
no posion jab? if anything that would be his move
Great intro, bub.
It still boggles my mind why Brock has 10 full heals. Does anyone know why this is a thing??
Yay! I love punchfrog!
The Eminem reference ,Nice 😁
Good morning Scott's thoughts viewers
How does Slaking fair in Gen 1? When it's Truant doesn't hold it back.
24:43 There is no badge boost in the defense due to leveling up. I think you could have survived
I wish you back ported poison jab
33:39 Sandslash all along? 😅
literally hisuian sneasel in gen 1 😆
25:10 you lost your badge boost when you leveled up
