As you probably already know if you're watching this, Retrochrome is an expired government surplus slide film that was sold by the Film Photography Project. Now that the film is discontinued, I figured I'd make a tribute video for it. I love this film and I wish I had more, but alas this is probably my first and last roll of Retrochrome.
I had The Darkroom develop and scan this film, which is why the scans are as high quality as they are: thedarkroom.com

    • Pentax K1000

Absolutely gorgeous photos! Guess I'll never shoot retrochrome, but I'm glad you got the chance to!

This is beautiful Rafe, the retrochrome film will just be a cherished memory, unless you cross paths again once more

Great video! I get a similar feeling with many stocks, and honestly that limited gratification makes it all the better.

So tiresome. Stripped of the poetry and word salad, what FPP "had" in this film was several master rolls of surveillance Ektachrome film long expired and abandoned in some government warehouse, which was discovered belatedly and sold (unloaded) for a few pennies on the original dollar to a small company which repackaged it into 35mm cartridges and sold it at many times their cost by wrapping it in some sort of nostalgic nonsense. The images look like crap. That's not an opinion, but the observation of anyone with at least one eye in their head. It's highest and best use appears to be as an excuse to make a pointless YT video. ("pointless = now gone, not to return, so not useable by anyone who might see the video)

Retrochrome might look objectively like "crap" compared to the ground truth of your eyes or a digital camera but the same can be said about many films. Also the paintings of even the greatest realism painters are objectively "crap" compared to a digital photo but its obviously an artistic medium.... The only thing i can agree on is that in these scans the white point could have done with a bit of adjusting.
