  • Some footage of a 318 tonne transformer on its way from Dover Docks to National Grid's substation at Sellindge Converter Station. Video was taken at Park Farm roundabout in Folkestone.

    The section of the journey which I am envisaging would require huge skill and nerve, is the steep downhill stretch from Capel-Le-Ferne to the roundabout for Folkestone Harbour.
    I am imagining that they might have attached at least three or maybe four tractor units at the rear,in order for them to act as anchors, and prevent the heavy haulage load from hurtling uncontrollably down the hill

    I have worked out that there was 80 wheels on the trailer unit, plus each of the tractor units had 14 wheels

    I wasn't sure why the rearmost tractor unit turned left into the road going towards Park Farm Estate

    I have a feeling that the height and width of this incredible heavy haulage load was such, that it wouldn't have been possible for the load to have navigated its way through Roundhill Tunnel.
    Or was it due to a weight restriction on the elevated bridge section between Roundhill Tunnel and Junction 13 of the M20 motorway?
