  • Corrupt Communist Labour Party pushing harder the Climate Change / Net Zero bollocks the Tories started, with the blowing up in the next few days, of the UK's last remaining coal fired power station, which will rocket up electricity prices as there is NO BACKUP to the stupid shit solar or wind generation being pumped as an alternative for the religion of Climate Change / Net Zero.
    BBC's Justin Rowlatt positively wetting himself at the prospect of destroying UK's industry for the far left criminals Net Zero bollocks.
    This is all intended to freeze you to death by Labour Communist government, just as they will to pensioners who've had their Winter Fuel Allowance taken away by Labour Nazi chancellor Rachel Thieves ... I mean Reeves.
    While the rest of the planet sit laughing in warmth, criminal idiots like Labour's "climate" secretary Ed Miliband will tell you to suck it up, the UK is "leading the world" in climate bollocks.
    Recorded from BBC1 London HD, BBC Breakfast, 27 September 2024.

    So when the wind doesn't blow in the middle of a freezing winter, we have even less to fall back on. Gas cannot be stored the way coal can be piled into massive stocks to secure supply. And if we keep depriving industry of power to keep houses warm when electricity is in short supply, UK industry will become uncompetitive and either close or move away. Who thought this was a good idea?

    • @trs4u
      @trs4u 2 дня назад

      Gas can be stored in enormous quantities - Germany does it. Coal is only 'storable forever' until you mine it. Once it's exposed to air it starts decaying and auto-ignition (spontaneously catching fire) is a problem. I've seen guys tearing around a power station coal yard in huge machines trying to separate smoking coal to one side so they can douse it with water.
      UK doesn't store much gas (about a week's worth) because it's directly connected to gas fields and to international gas networks. The best possible future for UK is to increase gas storage and to synthesise NetZero gas with 'excess' wind that we already pay millions a month for. Look for "uk wind curtailment monitor"

    We should have at least one coal fired power station. If the lights go off our modern way of life comes to an end. What the governent should be doing is to try to keep coal going whilst trying to develop thorium molten salt nuclear reactors, which in theory are a lot safer than conventional nuclear power. If we manage to make cheap modular nuclear reactors we would have an abundance of nearly free electricity. The very cheap electricity could then be used to extract co2 from the air ( or use the co2 from the coal powerstation ) and split hydrogen from water. Once you have co2 and h2 these can be combined to make methanol. Methanol can be burnt as a fuel in modified car engines, as is done in Brazil. And there you have it a potential net zero solution that would allow our way of life to continue without destroying the planet, a future where pensioners don't need to die because they can't afford to heat there homes.

      Why it's providing about 0.5% of our energy?
      By 2030 there will be 120X more wind generating capacity than that single plant is currently providing

    Ratcliffe power station is the only coal-fired plant in the UK to be fitted with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emission control facility, capable of reducing NOx (nitrogen oxides) emissions by 70-95%. It is also equipped with a Flue-Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) plant to remove sulphur dioxide (SO2) from the exhaust flue gases before they enter the atmosphere. With both SCR and FGD technology installed, Ratcliffe could meet the environmental standards in the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).

    I do think people's concerns around energy security are understandable, but luckily energy storage technology is just getting cheaper and cheaper.
