Thank you, Bjorn! What a profound concept! 🙏This video really made me slip a tear or two at the end. It made me think about the meaning of my mother and my father not being anymore, since I lost my father just recently and my mother, while I was a teen. It also made me realize, why I'm doing bonsai (even though, I'm just an enthusiast practitioner, starting the hobby with my father some decades ago). MA is really everywhere. It just needs to be discovered. Regarding Bonsai, I knew about negative spaces, but the true meaning of them (and what they symbolise), this I'm just starting to understand.
Sin duda es un excelente video, en lo personal deseo que no cambien tus futuros videos. Una de las razones por las que siempre me han gustado tus videos es la sensación de ecuanimidad y tranquilidad que transmite tu voz y la forma en que explicas las cosas.
beautiful video! Thank you for explaining the concept of 'ma'. I especially like the part where is explained that japanse people are aware of the empty space within conversations.
Bjorn or some1 please: Can someone help me find the video he did where went through the basics of every season on what to do from repotting, to fertilizer, to pestacide treatment. He was in nashville and brought up slot of practical solutions for us in usa (from going to lowes, home depot, and the like)..please! I was watching and now i cant seem to find it 😢
Will you interview ikebana masters and their understanding of “Ma”? Someone who commented below is an aquascaping master, and it would be interesting for the two of you to discuss Ma.
Amazing video and incredibly insightful. Does anyone know what the background music in the beginning of the video is called? The song and/or artist? Much appreciated.
I can't meditate in the "traditional" way. I have ADHD and severe anxiety, being alone with my thoughts usually isn't a great idea. But working on bonsai, that simple focus, and it's connection, allows me to calm my insane mind for a moment, like very little else can.
Can you share behind the scene video and what equipment that you use for you to take such video. I love it on how you present, make me calm and relax.❤ Looking forward your own bonsai garden in Kyoto soon. Maybe next time I can do apprenticeship in your garden😊
“Slow to speak” (let the other finish talking and actually think/absorb what they’ve said) …I’ve only experienced this when I lived in nyc (v common thing there… I guess they’re a progressed/sophisticated culture) and also my visits to Japan. I miss it. I’m from Cali and live here again currently, and most people here def aren’t “slow to speak” and don’t understand that concept, lol. Probably the opposite, always talking over one another and even bragging about themselves or stepping/trolling on others to get ahead.
I work with a person who can't seem to stop talking. She will barge into conversations and talk over others and talk louder so she is the only one being heard. She will also turn the conversation to being about her rather than whoever was the original subject. Very annoying to deal with.
What a superb footage of ”間”!
Yes,space itself has a special meaning especially in Japan.
I agree!
Great video! I'm disappointed that I didn't get to visit y'all in Tennessee, prayers for your family and new land!!
as an artist, it's really nice hearing these concepts that I've felt being explained so eloquently in words.
The Japanese have so many words that describe profoundness of things the English language doesn’t have.
The bonsai on an upside down beer crate.....wabi sabi at its finest.
This is a wonderful film. I recommend watching the full version.
Beautiful explanation of emptiness and negative space. Always a treat for my eyes with the beautiful shots and beautiful trees that you capture Bjorn!

Love it. I learned quite a bit with this video. I look forward to returning to Japan soon and get more of the beautiful Japanese culture.
Stunning work, it’s great to not appear to be reading from a book like a video I’ve seen on this before

Ya lo estaba esperando amigo... Saludos
Wonderful, it's not just the beauty of something it's the beauty of the space around it and how they work in unison ❤
