That last note is still the longest note ever held. Its in the guinness world record book still today in February 2021. Such an amazing song
All these years, I figured it was electronically produced. I really didn't believe it was humanly possible! Amazing!
Exactly
An amazing singer
wow never knew that
@@steveprimeau1407 They couldn't do the trickery necessary back then. Of course now, you can take a note forever. Freddy REALLY did that then and it's amazing.
2024 and still listening to this song, and a bunch of Sheriff/Alias's other songs. Freddy and Steve were and are amazing. 🥰
I love both Sheriff & Alias. I just found three songs (after not hearing them for about a decade) and added them to all my Apple playlists. I’ve played them over and over in the past week. Such great songs that still are great today. Much better than Punk Rock!
One of the greatest songs ever written and sung. I get the feeling Freddy didn’t know then - and he still doesn’t know now what a legend he is.
Very humble man. Such a perfect singing voice.
Such a spectacular voice. Man, he sustains a note with such perfection. I can't even count how many times I've listened to this song.
Fred Curci had some serious pipes!
And Downright Beautiful Tones in his voice!!! 🥰🥰🫠🫠
This song was SO far ahead of its time. It sounds like it was made more in the late 80s than the early 80s. Great melody, structure, music and production. It predicted "adult contemporary" music almost a decade before that became a thing.
Freddy could sing Rigoletto. Amazing voice.
I'm pretty sure Air Supply had the adult contemporary thing down well before this came out. But yes, great song...
Amazing song. My husband picked this song as our wedding song. When I hear it I think of him and how crazy in love we were. Thank you for such good memories.
Those two are the most chill dudes on the planet
Oh My Goodness, Fred, your voice is the most jaw-droppingly beautiful male voice I've ever heard in my entire life!!!!! No one can even come close!!!! You, this song, and your band(s) should've been so, so, so, so much bigger!!!! What a great song and you really, truly have a gift!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
totally agree!!!!!
@@hkuo1 🥰👍
Bad timing…. Twice
This was my FAVORITE song. It was always the last slow song of the night at high school dances. It still makes me feel like a fluttery hearted teen waiting to see if my crush will ask me to dance when I hear it. ❤️
When this song was released, the band Sheriff had already been broken up for a year. Good music is like a fine wine. It only gets better with age.
I’m still in love with Freddy!
One of the most best songs ever. Gives me goosebumps still to this day 🥰
Me too!!! Big TIME!!!
I'm so glad that last vocal note was a mistake. It's unreal...legendary in fact. What a great song. Still sounds fresh.
that note is part of canadian rock history.
I remember hearing this on the radio a lot when I was growing up. I always loved the ending where the singer holds the note and the song ends. Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics. The song starts off slow but by the chorus I was hooked, and then the ending left me with just a feeling of love for a good song. Couldn't wait until the DJ played it again. Back when they had DJS that could actually take requests.
Still, to this day, such a great song!
Part of the soundtrack of my life ,im not sure you realize how important this song is to all
I've had this song stuck in my head for a week. It's going permanent on my playlist. Needs a new show case!
I always associate this song with December 1988. I love it so much even when I was 10 years old. I am now 43 and turn it up. It's on one of my CDs. It's still on mixtapes too.
This was a great episode, important Canadian music that should not be forgotten
This is one of my all time favorite songs!
Heard this band back in the early 80s live with zebra for the first time.i was 17 years old.im 54 now and still love my rock .and I'm a black guy
Black people from the southern USA invented rock and roll. Elvis Presley would have been a country or gospel singer had it not been for the influence black people had on him with rock and roll.
Music has no color
@@TheJpep2424 But rock and roll was invented by people of colour. Undeniable fact.
@Steve We disagree. I have nothing more to say to you. Have a good life.
A beautiful song that gets ignored on the radio, and it's a shame! Since its rerelease and #1 position, the song has been included on numerous 80's compilations ("Monster Ballads") and movies ("Joe Dirt"); it even set a record for the longest note for a male pop singer (19.3 seconds at the end), and it's crazy how it wasn't even a major hit at first, especially with Journey's "Open Arms" and "Faithfully" being massive hits in '82-'83
Steve and Freddy...legends and such nice mates!
This song is so beautiful. Takes me away to another world. Thank you for creating that world!!!
This song has been my number one for the past month.
Truly behind the vinyl. Great story. Love the song.......timeless...........classic
one of my fave songs ever!
...and now in 2023 you can find videos on here of young people *REACTING* to this song and *LOVING IT!* They are in awe of the sentiment of the song, and of course the note at the end. They are not used to real singing, and amazing singing as the music they grew up on was mass produced, instead of created by artists. This song means so much to people in the era it was released because it makes you realize what you feel about the person you are with. My wife and I were married 4 years when this song came out. We celebrated or 38th anniversary yesterday. I remember how moved I was when this song came out because my wife is what completes me.
I remember when this song became a question on Casey Kasem's AT40, someone wanted to know what song has the longest sustained vocal in it, and this song was the one. I think the person who wrote the letter knew what it was, and was able to request this song without it being a request. LOL Anyway, Casey Kasem played the whole song all the way through right until the end.
Thank you Sheriff for that beautiful song❤💐 🎸🎤🎶👏
I still listening to this Song.. Beautiful Music.
Made me cry, it's for me the first power ballad in history great sheriff and alias
Guys, you nailed this song!
Man this song brings back memories of high school. My gf introduced me to this song and it was our song back in 82-83. While we went our separate ways in life, this song is like a time machine and bringing me back to a period when life was so much simpler.
Congratulations men. This song is a marvel in so many ways. How many wished for what you got, and yet got in a way that kept it real, kept you grounded. Life - it is up, it's down, hey, it's up again - really, really, high up and held high for so long.
Love this song by Sheriff Freddy Curci and guys did an awesome job with Album love them always
Iconic of any gen X childhood and a slow dance for high school prom
Lots of great memories of this song! Saw the show at the university of Alberta back then. Years later, I was in a Von’s grocery store in Palm Springs, California and this song came on the canned music playing in the store. That was amazing to me.
Peace
Awesome beautiful song, and that last note OMG chills
Does anyone remember when this was first released in 1983? I was at the dentist, and my dentist had a Walkman. I listened to the radio and this song came out. I actually like the original version much better
this albim came out the 2 nd time i was working for capitol records in the graphics dept. We also did all the mail outs of cd's and lp's to radio and magazines , what a trip for something to be a hit years later ,like benny mardones !
This song was used as the closing theme in one episode of the tv show Cold Case
Serious goosebumps..still
Wow❣️ This song still gives me the feels ❤
Beautiful, incredible song and record. Brings me to tears!!
I'm not sure, but I believe that last note is still a world record, longest held note in a rock song or something like that
Beautiful. Thank you for this, guys.
Love this song! My wife rolls her eyes when I start singing it. She says you're so cheesy. I think that's why she married me.
Omg 😅😅😅😅 I love the part in the song where he like gestured the drums…. In the video. My favorite part!! 😅😅😅 and he literally tuned in and did it here!! 😅😅 that’s awsome’n❤❤❤
An amazing piece! We used it for our wedding song.
Ahhh. Those were truly better times.
Love this song then and now!!!!
My sister went to the same night school as him
its been so many years and still .💛💚💙💜🤎.. I love this song and love tohear it and as well - their whole album is great and still so refreshing in 2024 - lots of love from Vienna
This was my favourite song
Fantastic voice.
Fall in love with this song
That's HILARIOUS!!! "I didn't know where the fade was!"
So cool to see 2 of my musical heroes discussing one of my favourite tunes of all time! 👍
Love this story❤!!!
Beautiful voice. I have this vinyl and love the LP
back in the day I thought Styx sang that. loved that song. cool seeing this
😌🤍 One of my favorite 80's songs
Great song for sure
Beautiful!!!!
Always loved this song 💜 💜
I absolutely love this song❤🎉❤🎉❤
This was the Bride and Groom song at my wedding 26 years ago in 1993.
This will be mine next year ♡
Wow, such a long time ago. Man, I wish I was alive back then!
I was 😁😁😁
Not so long ago. I was there.
@@joes7885 doesn't seem that long ago to me either. When I stop to count the years or hear someone else say it, it just seems impossible. Getting old enough to understand "don't blink" is painful.
That needed to be longer!
great song!
Amazing I
Voice your number 1 in my book love that song ❤
I listened to these guys a lot back in the late 80s and then when Sheriff broke up & Alias came out it was like a continuation kind of, with some original founding members from the band Heart. Ann & Nancy Wilson's band. When Sheriff broke up some other members continued on & had another group called Frozen Ghost.
And then Frozen Ghost’s lead singer Arnold Lanni became a famous producer for Our Lady Peace and Finger Eleven.
@@richardds9 Simple Plan too
one of the best love ballads ever...thank you guyz!!!!
Nice narrative. Great song in the 80s ...
what a nostalgic wonderful feeling i just got
My favorite love song!
Grant Avenue Studio, Hamilton.... Legendary!
this might have been stated already, but Arnold Lanni (keyboards for Sheriff and later leader of Frozen Ghost) wrote this song. After the band broke up, and in 1989 when it broke big again, Arnold refused to reform with the band.
Peter Green Frozen Ghost another great band!! The 80s were awesome.
Because he bought the masters back from the record company, for nostalgia reasons-and when the song became an even bigger hit the second time, he OWNED ALL OF THE RIGHTS to it and made a killing. Millions.
@@glengamble526 incorrect. It's in the court documents
The last note almost went to the moon, it was so long!
I believe it's looped. If you listen closely you can hear it start to overlap itself
Just studio trickery. The note ends up sounding more like a keyboard than a voice by the end of it.
He doesn't even come close doing it live
ruclips.net/video/omyQdvPU58c/видео.html
Rich O yes he does. There’s videos here on RUclips with him doing every note live including the last note! It was easy for him.
I saw one of those videos and it's linked above. Not only could he not hold out the note anywhere close to as long but he also did the song in a lower key. How about a link to a video where you say he does hold the note?
One of the best songs ever. Very moving, and highlighted with a great vocal and the long sustain to end it...
Very Humble from such talent, Thank you. Your music has Strong dogma in my offspring, kodi
Great Shot Great Vocalist Great Record...many thanks from Italy
Wonderful song that reminds me soo much of Mandy...
Very cool video on such an amazing song 👍
Amazing ❤
Me and this guy named "Randy" danced to this song in my mother's kitchen, he Grabbed me and said "Dance with me" in Oct 1991, and I fell in love with him right then and 4 months later he drowned on a fishing trip. He was 25 and I was 19.
One of the best moments and song of my life.
not sure how to react to that story. Sorry for the situation, glad we could provide a memory, although painful.
what a great tune!
I met the band years ago
Great song unbelievable held note at the end
back in the glory days of Billboard's regional hits, this tune which only hit mid 60s on the Hot 100 Nationally in early 1983, ruled the airwaves of Atlanta Georgia. Z93 played it, 94Q played it, and 96Rock played the living hell out of it. Can't say for sure it was a number one on the local playlists, but it had to be damn close. Going number one in 1989 just let everyone else discover what a masterpiece it was. And of course gave us Alias.
I love Freddy wish I could find him
All time classic written by Arnold Lanni (Frozen Ghost) who also wrote number #1 bride & groom wedding song-----
Dream Come True(Love Of My Life)
I have a great story about that last note too, involving a band house in T.Bay when I toured as their LD c.1983. ;-)
Do tell Toney
