Love the way Shelby tells Miles "Car's yours, Ken". The way he says it doesn't mean "the car is ready", but that Ken has mastered that car like it's a part of him, more than the brand owner or the manufacturer, and he's now ready to pull off the perfect lap with it.
Oh hello Stig (That guy that talked to Christian Bale at the beginning of the video is Ben Collins , Top Gear Stig from 2003 to 2010 , he also did stunt driving for Bond movies so i would assume he had a similar role here).
Perhaps the finest racing scene in film history, overall the film ranks right up with Frankenhemer's, Grand Prix. A masterpeice. When I went to see it, I was prepared for a typical hollywood experience that would insult my intelligence, instead I was treated to one of the very greatest racing films ever produced.
He built the car test drive the car and should have won all 3 races that year. Yet he never. The GT-40 wouldn’t be beat after, it’s like it lived on 66,67,68,69. All GT40. Based on Ken’s cars and J car. 2 years it beat everything with new development. And the same chassis twice in a row for a time where finnishing was the goal. Everything about this film is ridiculous. Shelby won everything. Previously beating Ferrari with his cobra in 64. A legend in his own right, Something I must credit Ford for was this, the mass produced parts were better than the rest, the gear box and engine ran 36 hours, that’s why it was so solid. Ken and gerny were pushing. Ken’s car just didn’t break. That black Ford was fast but it didn’t put the shift in Ken’s car did. Everything else failed at the limit. The durability is down to fords parts that are mass produced, they are better than anything specialised because they are all different with weakness. One hell of a story. Ken miles and the no.1 car was the winner.
It's quite fascinating even today to see the success Shelby and Miles manage to accomplished. Especially when Mr Ford let an entire army of no knowledge idiots try to hinder every progress. Carroll Shelby confirmed this in an interview.
Why did Ford try and hinder them so much? If they clearly knew what they were doing and didn't Ford go to Shelby for help in the first place, what a bunch of clowns
I hear you man. I was dating a girl when the film was coming out. When we were leaving her place to go see it on opening night I told her "you might wanna bring some Kleenex for me, I could get emotional" I was partially joking.
The engine is running on boiling and the brakes are shot. Folks, this is why the 24 hours of LeMans is such a challenge and this is where manufacturers test their cars to see if they hold up. It's the perfect laboratory.
Great engineer, great racer.. salute
