    Great video! My racquets have foam inside so I need to do some digging.. Any idea how much the silicone weigh compare to the foam?

    • @superstringerllc7774
      @superstringerllc7774  6 лет назад +2

      Marcus Johnsson unfortunately, no, but as you remove the foam, you could weigh it and see how much it weighs. Foam has different densities and manufacturers don’t publish this information.
      You should be able to use a small razor knife to cut the foam out in large pieces which would give you a good ball park of the weight removed.

      How far up should I put the cotton?

    • @danielschank
      @danielschank 3 года назад

      @@zacharywan2004 as far up as you want the silicon to go. Depends on how much mass you intend to add. I would argue no further then 2/3 up the hairpin but would try to stay halfway or less when possible.

    I apologise in advance if this seems like a silly question, but how good is cotton for dampening vibrations if it's tightly packed into the handle? I would really appreciate your response. Thanks.
    I want to add silicone but not a whole lot to begin with since the frame is an extended length model ( Yonex ezone 98+)

    Are their any alternatives to silicone; like tungsten putty. Or does that not give the same effect.

    • @superstringerllc7774
      @superstringerllc7774  6 лет назад +1

      George Watson You can use lead tape, tungsten putty, silicone or a variety of other substances like glue and fishing weights.
      Whatever substance you use will have a slightly different feel. Silicone absorbs vibration, so if you want a more muted feel, choose something that can absorb vibration.

      Silicone will also give the racquet that beautiful sound of the ball hitting the strings because of the muting and vibration dampening. Actually will have more feel than you think. That is why the pros use it. Nothing compares to silicone.

    what kinds of ranges of the amount of silicone can be added? was surprised how little you did. like up to 30-60 grams (approx 1-2 ounces), if one wanted to.?? but then you'll be spreading that out across the length of the handle, i'd guess.

    • @superstringerllc7774
      @superstringerllc7774  6 лет назад +1

      satjiwan correct. You can apply as much as you want to achieve your desired specs. Of course you are limited in the amount based on your racquet. It’s also good to add a similar amount of weight to the head to offset the balance some.

    • @Waqas289

      String Rx, LLC where to add weight on the head to off set balance. on the top or near the grip?

    • @superstringerllc7774
      @superstringerllc7774  6 лет назад +1

      Waqas Shabbir it depends on what kind of set up you are going for. The easiest solution is to put weight at the noon position on the head. However, you can also add weight anywhere in the hoop to offset some of the weight in the handle. If you add weight only at the throat depending on where the balance point is, you won’t offset any of the weight in the handle.
      For more power, offset in the head at noon. For more stability, add weight at 3 and 9 in the head.
      Hope this helps.

      String Rx, LLC If i am trying to make racquet head light by adding weight to the handle of the racquet is it must to add weight on the racquet head to offset and reduce the effect of adding weight ?

      Waqas Shabbir no, you don’t have to offset at all. Its all personal preference.

    Got a question. Im trying to achieve a more solid feel and plow to my racquet. Currently its 335gms stock. Is it better to add weight using silicon or just use lead? I tried leather grip before, but its still lacks the solid feel i had with my older head racquet

    • @danielschank
      @danielschank 5 лет назад +1

      dj Blackwing silicone will dampen the feel. It sounds like you need to add some lead. I would add 4 (2” strips) of 1/4” lead tape at 3 and 9. That should be about 2g. I would add 2g to 4g of lead tape under the grip or silicone in the butt. That should maintain balance or make it slightly more head light. Let me know how that feels.

    • @djblackwing737
      @djblackwing737 5 лет назад

      I actually tried that set up before (5gms at 3-9 and leather grip) But it lacked that solid plow that I was looking for. So my guess is I need to add a bit more weight in the handle. Would it make a difference if I do it using just lead Or is silicon way better in adding weight to the handle?

    • @danielschank
      @danielschank 5 лет назад +2

      dj Blackwing my guess is you need to add more weight. Try adding 6 grams in the head at 12 o’clock and add 9 grams in the handle. See how that plays for you. Silicon may help with the feel but not necessarily better for plowthrough.

    • @djblackwing737
      @djblackwing737 5 лет назад

      Got it.. well try it. Hopefully it wont make my racquet a cannonball. Im trying to mod a pair of new old stock yonex 95d which I find very powerful but really light and wippy in stock form. Ill keep you updated how it goes, thanks Daniel

    • @danielschank
      @danielschank 5 лет назад +2

      dj Blackwing you’re welcome. Good Luck. More mass means more power but if you get the mass to swing speed ratio right, it should be effortless power.

    Is it possible to remove the silicone from the racket cable?

    • @superstringerllc7774
      @superstringerllc7774  6 лет назад +3

      Rodrigo Lana I’m not sure what you mean by the racket cable. Once you add silicone it can be hard to remove. If you add cotton balls first before adding the silicone, you can remove most of the silicone if you want. Some stringers recommend using hot glue instead of silicone as its easier to remove.
      I have started using hot glue as well and it works similar to the silicone but I think the silicone has a little better dampening effect.

      ?まなりの you just have to weigh everything before adding silicone and then add a little bit at a time and keep reweighing the racquet.

    Read on Prostock that some handles are filled with foam and some epoxy. Will be great to find out how to diy this too.

    • @danielschank

      That is true. It all depends on feel and how each material changes that. Its a personal preference. Foam can be tricky though as its a pain in the ass to remove if you don’t like it.

    • @danielschank

      It barely affects swing-weight at all. Its pretty negligible unless you are adding a lot of weight.

    • @chuckfriebe843

      Depending on how far up inside the hairpin you put the silicone it won't make much difference. Some will tell you that it will lessen the SW, but this is not true.

    How far up do I put the cotton?

    • @danielschank
      @danielschank 4 года назад +1

      Just depends on how much you want to add. If only adding a little just put the cotton about 1/4 to 1/2” up. If needing to add a lot, then push it further. The key is to leave enough room to put cotton on top as well to keep the silicone in between the cotton. Don’t skimp on the amount of cotton either.
