The Backyard grows wild while we're busy with plant sales

  • We can't plant our annual vegetable garden until the greenhouses come down after our spring plant sale, but that doesn't mean that nothing is growing without our help. The fruit trees, berry bushes, vines and weeds don't wait for us to be ready to grow, they just go when they are ready. This year we were so busy that we missed most of the pruning, and lots of the weeding. Enjoy a look at what the garden looks like after a couple months of neglect.

I seriously love your garden and your tours! It gives me so many ideas for my garden. I'm just North of you in Webster County. Thank you for sharing! God bless.

Thanks for the empathy! Losing so many tomatoes was hard on my heart but I love that everything in the garden just keeps growing and going. My youngest comes in with a bowl of blueberries and raspberries every day. You can find a strawberry on almost every corner of the yard. Today she found a whole handful of blueberries. I graze on the currants and fruit when i'm out watering :) Garden lesson I've learned is that one bad day, or even a few bad weeks doesn't spoil the whole garden or ruin the whole harvest.

I have not tried them yet. They look like they are very productive and fun! Have you had good luck with them?

@@iowabackyardfarmer2952 like many of the heirlooms, the heat gets to them at midsummer. They taste really good though, and plan to get more seed for my garden next year.

It's so sad that you lost so many plants due to the herbicide. I wish people would quit using it.

It always surprises me just how sensitive they are. The good news is that the tomatoes we have planted are looking great now and we are starting to harvest tomatoes off them!
