I guess we have Affinity to thank for putting some stress in Adobe's blissful and arrogant nature and finally give us some long desired features.
We've been waiting for this for so long I think one of us eventually got a job at Adobe and low key pushed this to finally be a feature because it was taking too long. 😂
I know the developers who brought this feature for the iPad version and I'm pretty sure they worked on bringing it out for the desktop version too. 👏👏👏
Whenever the review screen pop-up came up in AI i would suggest this, been suggesting it for years so this is great to see

At the 43 trd sec. I stopped the video and jumped up to illustrator. And that thing was over there for all the time I have been creating MANUALLY ( I mean rotate feature ) circular patterns. And I'm really excited to view the rest of it. Thanks:)
Am now of the adobe illustrator 2022 version and had no idea the 2021 update had so many useful repeat features. Will definitely help with my workflow. Thank you.

This was possible for a very long time. The process was actually pretty simple, kinda.
Effects>Distort and Transform> Transform
Changing number of copies and defining the Move Horizontal, adding another Transform, Move Vertical. It was always possible to Rotate it, which made a Radial and use Reflect, which made a Mirror.
It was and is, live, and you could change it anytime you d like and change everything by going to appearance and changing those transform filters.
I was using this for probably over 10 years and I had no idea that I was the only one ;)
About time, these are simple features which should’ve been implemented within Illustrator years ago
Exactly. And there are other basic features they still didn't add, like artboard rotation or ungrouping all groups at once. :(
@@nobodyknows3260 There are so many cool features they can add to the entire Adobe suite that other softwares have long since implemented. Adobe is like the Apple of the design world. Late to the game 😂

I also agree that there are lots of outdated functions in CC applications, however in defense of the developers and product teams, it is a very complex task to innovate while keeping legacy features working. They can't completely change things around as it would affect a lot of people's workflow. Having said that I would love to be able to work at scale in Illustrator. That would be so useful for large format prints.

OMG, how did I not know about this? I make lots of icons and other often bilaterally symmetrical graphics, this will make it so much easier.

I partially agree. I've been pining for the new Repeat features for a full decade. The Radial and Mirror features work great. The implementation for the grid array, however... is bizarre.
I think the trophy for best new feature in years needs to go to Real Time Drawing and Editing. that's something we will use every second we're in Illustrator.
They've combined symbols, transform and rotate features together. It's a way better like this.
Its about time they added this feature!
Finally! ... but can you specific the precise position of the mirror, like you can with the angle, i need it perfectly in the document center, thanks !

Can't believe i spent the entire day creating patterns using the pattern make method when this exists :)
when adobe brings simple things like Ctrl+B, Ctrl I utalic bold font not available silly things, and when you fill and change color its shows in canvex live changes but affinity designer bring it in their software, and generally adobe approach is hard to do like in affinity brings complex things in just in single click steps

lucky for me I’ve been enjoying this functionality and many others years before Adobe even consider implement thanks to a small company called Astute Graphics with obviously less resources than Adobe but incredibly smart enough to develop plugins for Ai that offers great functionality. It’s funny to see how Adobe it’s been ripping off some ideas from them...

It is a long history in 3d programs
There doesn't seem to be any easy way to expand the shapes after applying the repeat tools. In my case, I set up a shape by mirroring and then applying the radial repeat to the mirror. Now clicking EXPAND just messes up the whole thing. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

I've made layer with a vertical guide. I've drawn the left side only, I add the mirror, delete the guide line, but there is a vertical gap through my object? Thx

I noticed when you are done with the mirror effect that illustrator leaves a "ghost" box around whatever was mirrored, why is this?

It's a Wacom Cintiq 27 inch screen. It is awesome for illustration/animation/digital art.

Great question Elinor! I would suggest to duplicate it and Expand one of them, which then can be added to Swatches as a pattern Swatch.

Hi there, is it just me that is experiencing extreme slowdown and crashing when using the repeat grid tool. I have a fast computer and this tool makes it impossible to even get a pattern finished. I am not sure if I missed something?
