Griffith may his name be forgotten

I think Griffith's fall to becoming Femto is dangerously misunderstood. The pre-Eclipse Griffith would have never wanted this to happen.
I think one core component of Griffith that is missed is his aversion to vulnerabilities. He is afraid of failure; that's his character flaw. He probably gained this trait after seeing one of his fallen soldiers, whom was a child and had agreed to risk his life.
This is why, when Guts want to leave, Griffith wanted to duel him. Not because he "couldn't take no for an answer," but because he wanted the guarantee that Guts would stay with him so that he could continuing pushing forward his dream. He went into shock after he lost because he didn't account for one thing: his sword's durability. While he processed this, he let his instinct take control and seduced the Princess without considering the opposition.
The dungeon is where we see Griffith's concrete form get destroyed. His body is shatter, every limb broken and every tendon cut. His daily workout was basically the Fumer Breaker from SCP. He still had a bit of hope from Guts and the Behelit, which he thought was just a good luck charm, not a doomsday device. He lost his Behelit during it when the torturer threw it out, further deepening his despair. Had it all been for nothing? Even if he escaped, he could do nothing, not even communicate to anyone because his tongue was gone. His body had become a prison.
Then, after his rescue, everyone lose faith in him after the realization, and he overhears his top two officers, Guts & Casca, about leaving Griffith behind. Griffith and the thing everyone had sacrificed themselves for willingly will be lost. In his agony, he fantasizes about them like they were a family, one that would not leave him behind to be nothing as well as every life that was lost for nothing. He wanted them to thrive; he didn't want to lose them all! He had to sleep with noble man to stop unnecessary death from forced battles.
Edit: I finish the comment tmrw.

And none of that matters in the end, because he DID do the things willingly, during and post the Eclipse. Meaning that "pre" Griffith would also go that far for his dream, we just see him pushed to a point that he could do these things. It was still always inside him, he was always capable of these horrific and vile acts.
Losing Guts was his own doing anyways. The fountain scene. His arrogance and hubris of putting himself above friendship is exactly what pushed Guts away. He did this all to himself and so when Guts left, he lost all control and tried to salvage his dream by doing another horrible thing in seducing and coercing a minor. He was never a good person. He was a high and mighty child that would throw a tantrum when things did not go his way.

@@GrieverTheLionHeart I don't think he wanted to lose anyone. He just didn't know how to respond to Gut's proposal. And as I will type up later, Griffith will be manipulated with the godheads killing his abstract form so that he is already dead when he makes the decision and that he has been betrayed without limit. Femto is not Griffith. It the parasite that feasts off poor Griffith's corpse. I don't think Griffith deserved his fate considering all he did what he did for others until he got destroyed entirely, resembling nothing like pre-Eclipse Griffith.

@@ethymith See that is total head canon from what I have read that Griffith and Femto are different people.
If you try to defend Griffith at all, as I pointed out he was already horrible by the time of the fountain conversation, then you are fighting a losing battle with me! Sorry to say, but just don't want you to waste your time.

@@ethymith You sound in denial, you just can’t accept that a character that you grew to respect and truely like did awful things, so you just say that they are different characters when they are just not.
There is a reason Miura included scenes showing some cracks in Griffith’s character all during the Golden age. Berserk is not manichean, Griffith was never all dark or all white, he still isn’t, but just saying « well Griffith is actually the victim of Femto » just absolve him of all blame is lazy and inaccurate.
His entire speech about his dream to the princess completely shows how he is ready to go against anyone (except maybe Guts) to reach his dream.
You also glossed over the fact that Griffith tried to choke Guts when he saw him, he really cared for guts, so much in fact, that Guts was the only person who made him forget his dream. He sent a search party for guts and casca when it wasn’t the smart thing to do to reach his goal, he would not have done it for anyone else. Other moments and even the way he talks to him, show his obsession with Guts. When he leaves, Griffith is in grief, and because of that, acts irrationally in an effort to reassert his own ego and control need, and that what leads him to lose everything. In his own thoughts in the dungeon, you hear him blame Guts for what happened to him, and again, tries to choke him. He bales Guys again right before accepting the deal in the Eclipse.
Also, the « vision » he has with Casca is not to be interpreted in the way you just did. He has this, right after Casca says she won’t leave Griffith, the people who used to look up to him, now pity him, and he now looks at his only possible life, a calm life with Casca, he can’t reach his dream anymore. And he rejects that life, completely, and he takes the little strength he has to leave as far away as he can. He then contemplated ending it all, as now, everything he ever wanted was out of reach, and that’s when he was in the perfect state of mind to accept the God hand’s offer. Everything is around causality, everything happened to get Griffith to make that choice, just making him a victim who never wanted this is reductive and goes against Berserk’s core concept.

The one thing I don’t like about Griffith/Femto is the fan base who constantly defend him and his actions. Especially, people saying that annoying quote “Griffith did nothing wrong.” HE DID PLENTY OF WRONG. He chose to murder his friends as sacrifices to be devoured by demons all so he can accomplish his ideals of creating a utopia and ascend to a higher being and become a member of the God Hand. Tortured, cursed, and injured his best friend Guts. ALSO, raped his lover Casca, damaged her mind, corrupted their child, and used him as a vessel/meat suit. After everything I said, you people think you have the audacity to say that Griffith did nothing wrong, BS. Sure from a narrative perspective, he’s a good villain, and what he experienced from his time in that castle was horrible, but from a moral perspective, he’s a bad individual. The same can be said from other villains like Shigaraki, Dabi/Touya, or Dio Brando. Sure they had horrible experiences that lead to their upbringing as villains, doesn’t mean their actions are okay and justified. I swear some Berserk fans and especially the Griffith/Femto fans are the most toxic, annoying, and disgusting people on this planet if they actually defend him.

I thought the whole thing was a meme, do people actually try to defend Griffith and any of his actions?
Which as I said in the video, was his own damn fault. His choices led him to his bad experiences as well.

@ I’ve seen people online on social media like Facebook or Reddit actually do defend Griffith. I remember a long time ago that a few posts on Facebook where they chose their most hated anime characters or which characters they defend despite their actions. I remember it was between Griffith, Shou Tucker, Danzo, Sakura, Itachi, Mahito, the purple/magenta haired girl from Rise of the Shield Hero, etc. Yes, I do get the explanation of your video, but it’s just there are some people I can’t stand due to the fact that they do defend certain villains and their irredeemable actions no matter how well written they are and how entertaining it is to read or watch from a book or tv show. Your explanation was quite informative.
