I grew up in Stockholm Sweden, we get a lot of rain in the summer and the fall. And Spring. And Winter. On the warm days though our roads get really dusty if we get sun for a few days straight. Like it's becoming a problem in Stockholm. Anyway, when we get rain on these dusty roads there's a specific smell that makes me so nostalgic. I live in Wales, where I think it's raining for half the year. Sometimes it does get a bit much and a bit bleak, but idk I still really enjoy the rain. Especially when it's raining at night, and I'm in a street or area filled with artificial light. Rain is probably the best at night. If it's raining all day it can be a bit bleak, it feels like the day never truly starts. But rain at night is the best, and it always gives me a very pleasant sleep. It has a very sentimental and nostalgic value. The only thing better than rain is wind, which has the added bonus of not forcing you to wear different clothing, and being possible in sunlight. Wind at night is also very soothing, it makes me feel more at home somehow. I honestly didn't know how much I loved this sort of weather until I was separated from it for some time. I was living in Europe for a few months, and it barely rained at all (tbh it was the summer and there was a heatwave) and I remember feeling so depressed and homesick. I literally started crying tears of joy when it started to rain (I'm not exaggerating lmao, I had a mini-existential crisis in tandem with the rain, which is something I do from time to time). I can kinda understand the appeal of dry and warm weather, but after a while it just gets a bit... arid. It's fine for temporary periods, and the occasional holiday. It never feels very homely though.
