Took the stang out this week end, since my girl went to the Bahamas and she doesn't like the way I drive it. I melted some more of the tires off sliding sideways and I must sat the car has never ran better. I seemed to cure my problem good luck with yours..
This is for tuner dude your video on the 4.6 misfiring was awesome I have a 1998 GT 4.6 with a procharger on it and I stored last year and it was running fine and all of a sudden it wasn't it was misfiring and running kind of rough so I appreciate your video thank you very much you're very articulate and keep up the good work.
Pull codes and check vacuum leaks before spending and throwing parts at it. Get a cigar, pull one of the line (brake booster) and blow it it to see any smoke leaking. So many people just buys parts and replace them wasting money and still wonder why it’s still idling rough.
My idle problem is a bit different on my stang along with a hesitation. 2 codes I pulled were banks 1 and 2 rich. My idle is not rough but if I give it throttle, it hangs up around 2000 rpms. At stops my idle wont settle until I come up off the clutch slightly. It hesitates around 2500 rpms if I try to give it too much acceleration. If I easily acclerate It does fine. I cleaned my iac, replaced plugs and wires, and even cleaned my maf(with the maf cleaner).
To: "Big Harley" Yes the coil pack on the 3.8 and 4.2/ F-150 are the coils that fail the most due to hairline cracks. A good way to tell is take a screwdriver and clip a ground wire to it and feel around the coil in the dark with the engine running.
Good sounding mustrat! I got 02 gt, my ICV is not working, so i got it pluged up to keep idle down, icv is n open mode? I got juice to icv but it dont work plunger inside? Ive checked it for stuff jamming movment, thats all free , got to b n sealanoide part? Ive drove my old mustrat gt cents 03 i got over 230000.0 miles on my baby she runs like a champ! Mobil 1 fully sent. 10w30 winter 10w40 summer oil stays good n clean! God bless!
Another common problem is the Crankshaft sensor. I went to Autozone for a free scan and their computer showed it was that. Cost me $30 but it was my problem for my mustang, so take your car to Autozone if you can and see what they tell you, it's free and it will at least attempt to narrow down the issue at hand. Just sharing my advice that helped me.
This same engine is in a 98' Ford F-150 I am looking at buying. It too has a rough idle until the engine warms up from what I've been told. I plan on taking it out for a test drive in a couple days to make a final decision. If I buy it, I don't want to get stuck with $$$$ in repairs.....
Did you get it? If so, your problem could be a crack somewhere on the manifold allowing air in. Once it gets warm, the manifold expends and closes the crack. I've seen it a few times. Good luck to you!
I actually ended up buying a Jeep Cherokee as a "get me by" while I save up for a newer model F-150. Looking at saving up for an 04-07' model. I'm sort of a glutton for punishment, I hate car loans, haha.
I have the same idling problem on my 2002 GT. The reason I believe is because water got into the Coil Packs and it's causing the misfires. I'm going to check them out tomorrow and blow some air into there.
Thats what we are here for. Give us a thumbs up and subscribe.. Also be sure to upload any videos of what you do on your car to help out other you tubers.. Share the knowledge... thats what its all about..
Im having similar problems with my 96 mustang gt i thought the engine to frame ground might be the problem since my guages quit and the ones that worked are acting crazy so i checked the groynds they all light up so i added a engine to chasis ground jump it off and it seems to be idling a lil better but im gonna do what you did and see if it fixes it a lil more thx
Nobody ever mentions the name of it I can't remember but it has vacuum to it and it's right beside the EGR valve not the two round plastic things with vacuum lines going to them with an electric piece that controls the EGR valve vacuum control.,. I think I'm going to try changing that on mine I think it's being the issue...
I hav a fox body 91 with a 302 and its doing the same thing 2000 rpm after you touch the throttle if you just let it idle its like it keeps normal on the idle ?? Anythoughts
You may have a bad vacuum leak. I recently bought a 1990 GT that was doing the same thing. I ended up taking the upper intake off and found a fitting that had no hose attached to it. The fitting is for the evap canister. Some one removed the canister and the vacuum line but didn't plug the opening in the intake.
Ok, Tunerdude...My 02 GT has been driving me nutz for almost 6 months...sporadic misfires at 2k-3k rpm from cyl's 2, 3,6, and 8. I'm running off road exhaust w/mil eliminators, irridium plugs, cold air intake, 70mm t/b ported upper plenum w/port matched 1/4 plenum spacer, underdrive pulley set, MSD coil packs and free flowing exhaust, and 3.90 gears. I bought a SCT tuner but have not uploaded my tunes yet for fear of making my problem worse. My precious pony has 178,000 miles of which I am the sole original owner. I've done basic troubleshooting but have not resolved the problem. I did notice 3 of the above cyl's coil pach harnesses lock tabs have broken off so they're on order. Gonna try cleaning the mass air meter and iac (havent been done in almost a year) and I run Spectre high flow filters. My trouble codes come up as lean conditions on bank 2 sensor 2, bank 1 sensor 2 and bank 2 sensor 1 and the obvious misfire's. I'm trying to hold of on buying the sensors beccause the Mil's should trick the ecm into thinking the exhaust sys is in Nirvana but I'm not so sure...Any help would be greatl appreciate from you or anyone!!!!
@Kburbin28 Did you find the problem with your 2000 gt idle issue? I'm having a very similar problem with mine. It is idling about 600. The other day when I drove up to a stop fairly quickly it died. I haven't had this problem again since last week, but it seems like the idle is fluttering just a bit and I am affraid of it dying again. I have done no modifications like adding a CAI or plenum. I did change the stock air filter after 30,000.00 miles. It now has about 35,000.00 on the car. No trouble codes have appeared.
My 2000 gt idles up and down when at a stop. Sometimes it'll stall out after a hanging idle when I stop suddenly. Changed IAC Valve, Coil Packs, etc...didn't fix it. I'm clueless and there's ZERO trouble codes. Any ideas? Oh and I used my old diablo tuner to shut off codes from appearing. Oops!
Just bought a 2001 mustang went to McDonald and scarped the bottom of my car ...at first it dident make any noise not until i made one stop at walmart when i camr back from walmart an i turned my car i can literally hear a ringing noise like something that mayne some will hear in a hearing aid or somthing i kinda found where this noise is located near the back bumper ....i dont think my back lights are makin this sound but its comjng more like its under ther car ....a couple of hours went by an i noticed a small grease spot on the ground near the back bumper an it looks kinda fresh though i b could be wron because i live in a apt an truthfully im not a car expert at all ..can anyone help with some knowledge thank u
where you get the upper tube that goes across too the other valve cover, im missing mine and cant buy a replacement anywhere, would definitely help if u knew , only place i know of are local junk yards but no one wants too part an engine
+Christopher Mathews i already bought that hose but im looking for the other hose that goes across too the other engine valve its a much longer vacumm line
+Louis Soria I can't find a new one, but here is a guaranteed used one. www.ebay.com/itm/99-04-FORD-MUSTANG-4-6L-V8-SOHC-FUEL-INJECTION-VACUUM-LINE-XR3E-6758-EB-OEM-/161764034782?hash=item25a9e348de:g:bsAAAOSwT6pVpdI3&vxp=mtr
you can have all same codes pop up and do all this and then find out DIRTY INJECTORS inlet side of injectors because the crap metal the rails are made out of build rust inside
I have a 1996 that wont idle and has sat for over a year. Now that I finally talked my parents into giving me the car I want to fix it but I cant find out the no idle problem it is somewhere in the air supply or fuel system.
Hazard Nation change your coil pack my v6 does same thing it has rough idle and rpms are low. Id change out the plugs and wires but if you already changed them out your good but for sure you coil pack needs changed
Hey guys I have a 2002 gt mustang manual that dies occasionally while I'm in neutral and coming to a stop. It does it about once a month. The engine just shuts off, it starts back up while I'm driving fine though. Anyone know what this could be? I just recently took off the IAC and cleaned it. It wasn't perfect but it was a lot cleaner, I used carburetor cleaner. Anyway it did it again after I cleaned it.
not specifically umm anytime I try to put a new IAC on it won't work because they have to be the factory model ones its weird I have tried 3 different ones. However, there was a hole in one of my tubes and i replaced that and its seems to be ok for now.
No vehicle can misfire 100,000 times in 2 minutes. 4 Stroke vehicles only fire every other revolution. Therefore, 100,000 misfires in 2 minutes would require 100,000 RPM.
I have been playing catch me if you can with my rough idle. No codes are showing up but on start up and when in idle, it's a little rougher than I remember it ever being. I've had my 2001 Cobra for over 11 years and only over the past year or so have I really honed in on this rough idle. All pumps and hoses seem to be ok, that I can tell at least. Any one have any suggestions? I recently replaced my clutch and mentioned it to the guys who were helping me on that but they came up with nothing. I'm stumped and annoyed.
i had the same problem for my 2002 when i disconnected the air filter sensor it would stop i cleaned the egr valve and that kind of fixed it then i went to reconect the air filter sensor it went back to normal
Took the stang out this week end, since my girl went to the Bahamas and she doesn't like the way I drive it. I melted some more of the tires off sliding sideways and I must sat the car has never ran better. I seemed to cure my problem good luck with yours..
Glad to Help. Been so busy the stang has been sitting for 7 months got to get it out and go for a ride....

nice video... I just wish u would have shown how the car sounded before with the Rough idele thingy
Thanks for the information and the well informed illustrations...they helped me alot...Keep up the good helping videos

Some parts you just can't try to clean them, they need to be replaced. I went through all that already I wish I found your video 2 years ago.

its more like change parts till it works. heck changing parts works on any engine not just 4.6.
okay and your video to help other is ??????
I never liked this engine of that year but I love my 2008 4.6 flex cvpi
Nice thanks,
But how did you start the car through the window? Have you removed the clutch interconnect?
IMO sounds like a leaking vacuum hose. What did you find out?
Im having similar problems with my 96 mustang gt i thought the engine to frame ground might be the problem since my guages quit and the ones that worked are acting crazy so i checked the groynds they all light up so i added a engine to chasis ground jump it off and it seems to be idling a lil better but im gonna do what you did and see if it fixes it a lil more thx

IAC valve is bad.
clean throttlebody n new front oxygensensors n BOOM !!!
I disconnected my iac and maf ( at different times and both made a change. Is it possible my maf is bad, given the rich trouble codes?
Whats the name of the plastic box thats connected to the iac valve

So, An Air Leak Or Vacuum Leak ?
you can have all same codes pop up and do all this and then find out DIRTY INJECTORS inlet side of injectors because the crap metal the rails are made out of build rust inside
Hey I have a 98 gt that takes a bit longer to turn on. Also sometimes it turns off when I'm driving it,can you help ?
a dying alternator or mad volt regulator will cause it to take a little longer to fully fire up
Thank you Im going to check that.
dirty fuel filter, check pressure fuel and pump, sparkplugs wires and conections
What do you use to clean the iac valve?
gas
I wonder if this guy ever found out that he didn't plug in that second sensor into the cold air intake lmfao
I have a 1996 that wont idle and has sat for over a year. Now that I finally talked my parents into giving me the car I want to fix it but I cant find out the no idle problem it is somewhere in the air supply or fuel system.
+austin sisco i replaced the idle air control valve in my 04; something to check out/clean
Hey my mustang v6 has a bad miss to it I think it's my coil pack to because my spark plug wires and spark plugs are brand-new

I've changed the coil pack twice (plugs and wires too). i gonna start looking at the fuel / air now...

Just telling you what the snap on computer told us on the read out...
I believe those are the sparks you're counting on the Snap-on tool.

You don't have to remove the whole housing??? you can just take out that little piece for the MAF sensor???
Thanks man :-)
I call it a tamper proof torx bit
Throttle body cleaner or carb cleaner.
No
I have a '98 Mustang GT, and if I give it a little gas, it acts like it's flooded. Anyone want to give me any insight, on what's going on?
