Thompson’s most underrated and maybe most impressive skill offensively is his transition playmaking. Decent ball handler but he makes the correct read in transition EVERY time. He’s got gravity as an athlete that can finish around/over defenders but even more so a poised playmaker that hits open guys, and thrives in situations where the spacing of the defense isn’t fully collapsed. I implore everyone to watch his decision making; it’s incredible and underrated.
Dude plays defense/transition like a hockey player. For real though, moves like he’s skating on ice with reach like a hockey stick. What’s more if he isn’t handling the steal himself, it’s getting pushed right off the rip to a teammate, just like an elite defenseman does. And speaking of passing, whether it’s a hockey or basketball assist his ability to deliver the pass on time is elite level regardless of the sport. Yet at the the end of the day, the truth is ain’t no hockey player got the hops or the killer smile that this kid’s got.
His timing on steals is even more impressive considering the speed of the play, he does it just when the ball handler can't take back or change their decision
The combination of athleticism, skill, and IQ in the twins is insane. They got a lot of Iguodala in their game and considering they’re only in their second years I think it’s safe to say they both have potential to be All NBA players at some point
@@elblouses128 well before he used to be a good shooter. Idk if its the way he’s had to change his style of play as he got into the nba but that boy can shoot. Give him time and he’ll become a better shooter
As a Pistons fan, I'd like to add that he's one of the fastest and most exciting players to watch in transition. Also his shooting form has got a lot better since his rookie year so i have some hope he will one day be a average/slightly below average 3pt shooter.
I saw him as a mic between Big Ben and Prince. He is great at help defense like Ben but doesn't have the power and strength like him and also can do more offense. Instead he is more like Prince body and has his threats but isn't as good a shooter
I'll admit I haven't seen much of the Pistons the last two seasons, but his brother Amen is the most exciting player I believe I have ever seen. And that is coming from a former sports writer and NBA beat reporter back in the day. And it appears Ausar is very similar. I predict great things for both! As for the Rockets needing Ausar, I'd take him in a minute but truthfully the Rockets are loaded with elite defending wings (Amen, Brooks, Eason and even Jabari Smith prior to the hand injury.) The Rockets need shooting. Hopefully Reed Shepard can continue slaying in the D-league (49 points in first game) and come back to fill that need.
A good bit of it is just good basketball IQ. He and Amen just have fantastic recognition (on both sides of the ball really) They are so good about knowing where to be and when, allowing their athletic ability to really shine.
Shades of Tashaun Prince, but has more athleticism. We have also seen bad shooters turn into good/decent shooters. We have seen bigs gain a 3-point shot when they didn't have one. So I feel that the jump shot will come, but he already is elite with the skills he currently has.
Thompson twins already moving faster than anyone I’ve seen. I’m not just talking speed but the reaction time on those two are unmatched. Amen makes Jalen look normal when he is consider one of the athletic player in NBA
i think my rockets made the right choice in taking amen at 4 rather than ausar, but the pistons really got another gem and in my opinion the next best option off the board.
Imagine if the Rockets had them both 💀 What an absolute nightmare for teams that would be. Sure they can't shoot but they are great at running the pick and roll and cutting so it pretty much negates their downside!
You have to remember Ausar didn't have training camp this season. Coming out of the draft i specifically remember Ausar being the superior shooter to Amen. But hey if you're ready to admit you guys should have drafted Cam Whitmore we'll trade for Ausar right now.
This is what i was missing in basketball !!!! As he said, you can't teach this !!!! This is what i wanna see, great offensive plays, and great defensive plays... Take defense out of the game, is like listening a rock song without the drums
he reminds me A LOT of young OG anunoby. If you recall OG couldn’t shoot at all his first couple of seasons, but what kept him on the floor was his elite defensive abilities. Ausar’s ceiling *offensively* is much higher than og’s due to his ability to handle the ball, and that quick twitch he has. With the twins work ethic I wouldn’t be surprised if they are much better shooters in the coming years. Let’s not forget Ausar was playing against 17 year old kids, prior to declaring. The talent is there, just needs to keep playing in order to develop.
He kinda reminds me of a calmer , smaller draymond. greeny boi has his passing , the 7 ft wingspan, unusual athleticism, and of course his notable defence.... All things that Aisar ALSO has. I dont think he will be guarding centres in playoff games on average the way that donkey green did during his prime but I do think Ausar's team will put him on the most heavy and athletic forwards in the league like Zion , Giannis, Jimmy, Naz Reid, Edwards, wtc... Causse this dude is a bomb of athleticism and speed. Even outrunning other faster , younger players on average.
If there is/are any players that can develop a jump shot, I believe its going to be both the Thompson Twins. Their shots both looked bad last season, but you can already see improvements in their form. They just need more time, but it’s great to see them work around it and establish themselves.
Yeah sometimes you can tell their form is solid as are the results, but they are still trying to do that consistently. Because their good shots look so good, I kind of fully expect they will keep improving.
good defender and from what i see, he just has so much chemistry off the ball with Cade and everyone on the team. He can consistently find an open lane to the basket to be dished out for easy dunks. Also the best at breaking up passes I’ve seen, he’s like a linebacker out there. if he can be a ok shooter in some years, he’s a star.
Both of the twins are literally a nice jumper away from running the league, no exaggeration. They have no other flaws and are way more impactful than the average role player, and even some star players. I hope they add it to their bag at some point and take that extra leap like Zo did pre-injury.
I see Ausar having a draymond green type of career, maybe not to the level of the hall of famer but night in night out he’s gonna be the glue guy that elevates the teams overall defense and offensive movement. Hopefully Ausar can become an average 3 point shooter cause then that’s when I think he can start being a 17-20 point scorer nightly added on top what he already offers
Ausar is going to develop a 3 point shot, what level will determine if he's an all star level player or just a rotational piece that can provide defense. I honestly think he'll become a decent shooter in about 2 years, without injuries holding his development back.
The handle is what concerns. I am concerned if he can develop a half court offense that works. Ausar is best in starting lineup vs bench, but without a credible half court offense, I don’t know how much opportunity he might get.
They hustle like they're on 10 day contracts. Im SUPER high on Amen specifically. I think he's a 1st ballot HOF talent, and i think it'll be clear by year 4
@@tomi2x180 Yeah watching Ausar move on the court is really kind of shocking. He's so big and long and covers ground so fast and thats not even mentioning his vertical ability. He's truly unique and I think Fred Vinson is still molding him along with Ron Holland they could be a scary good defensive duo with some serious offensive upside.
1 of 1 athleticism meets freakish defensive IQ. Everyone talks about the evolution of offense within todays NBA , but not how crazy evolved the Thompson twins are defensively.
Thompson twins both will have 10 year nba careers. The shooting will balance out due to their tenacity on defense and slashing ability. Shooting is only a portion of the game.
so if Draymond is a passing Rodman and a hyper athletic Draymond is prime ben Simmons then is Ausar going to be ben Simmons w/o the wear n tear?? not in terms of play style but in terms of what they do on a court; fascinating players him and his brother

Great offense is good and all, but gimme dat elite defense straight into my veins

Ausar Thompson is a highly talented basketball player

I’ve always wondered if you notice these little things, would you make a good coach?
