The thing about Wemby that impresses me most isn't his cartoonish physical stats it's just how high his IQ is and how quick his reads are. This mf is almost obnoxiously smart lmao. He will not be like other 7+ footers just because of that
processing speeds and reflexes are very impressive, you combine those with an 8ft wingspan and mobility and it becomes ridiculous. If he can fill out his frame a bit more and become even stronger, with more experience, he would be the next face of the NBA.
Getting to watch him develop, while getting prime doncic/jokic and almost prime shai, yet still seeing solid old curry/LeBron/durant, yet none of these players being on the 1 seed or reigning world champs, what a treat
I'm glad you brought up his upfake. I think when all is said and done, that's going to be his signature move. The reason being a combination of: His upfake is just his natural shooting motion His hands are so large that he can make a split second decision on whether to shoot it over the top, or drive if the defender sells out to try and block (which they have to given his height and his release point on his shot) He's so long that if he does drive he's in the paint so quickly the defense has a very hard time adjusting, and the Spurs are likely getting a 75+% 2PA up.
Good observation. That upfake is definitely a game-changer. I noticed that most defenders have to jump very early if they want to alter his shot. And because he has the IQ, with 1 defender already in the air, he can take advantage.
@@nandorgyongyosi698 I mean how many defenders can even alter his shot with that release point? Quite aside from his incredible size and athleticism, he just seems to have an almost perfect sense for what's happening around him and ends up in the right place.
wemby has great defensive instincts but you may need to watch more garnett and draymond because they are in a tier of their own when it comes to defensive instincts or threat detection in the paint
