I have a pair of V2 Rebels, they still are awesome. Though if I was to purchase now, it would probably be the Mach6. The V4 is humongous. It’s the prettiest shoe though.
Had to return rebel, really didn't like the excess volume for my narrow feet , also didn't like the feel of arch. Really enjoying the mach 6. Nice comparison 👏
I really enjoyed the Rebel V3,pushing towards 300 miles on it currently. I plan to wear it past thatmark. The only Hoka I’ve ever had is the Mach 4 and I really enjoyed it. I do like the look of this and would consider both of these shoes to my rotation later this summer.
I tried for a couple of weeks to get the Rebel V4’s in my size. Couldn’t find them anywhere online and went back to my regulars. Will try again when the new hype has calmed down.
I’m mostly a fore/midfoot sticker and the Rebel has worked really nicely for me even when picking up the pace. But the shoe feels odd when I tested to heel strike. Haven’t tested the Mach. My previous shoe was the NB 1080v12
I'm enjoying my Mach 6's, though more for easy and long runs. I prefer my ES3's for faster sessions as they have a bit more pop to them, yet are still very comfortable. There's a bit of cross-over, but they work pretty well for a rotation.
You made a lot of good points, Loyd; however, I’m afraid you neglected the most important advantage the Mach 6 has over the Rebel v4, and that is the sock game was much stronger with the Hoka than the NB 😂
I have mach 4 and 5, problem with mach on my feet, to accommodate my wide feet i need to go 1 size up and the mach become too long for my liking. While rebel v4 accommodate my feet perfectly
Q - as a beginner - why using daily trainers like the rebel and not carbon plated shoes? What are the benefits of nonplated shoes? (price aside, just wan to understand the profesional logic. you can find new last generation platde shoes at the same price od daily shoes).
Lots of people don't like running in plated shoes, finding them uncomfortable. A lot of them also have a propensity for overloading the calves and Achilles, and many are more unstable than non-plated models and this lead to excessive loading of stabilising tissues in the foot, ankle, and knee. Not too dramatic over a 5/10/31/42km race, but maybe a problem if logging weekly miles in them. There is also the aforementioned price factor (often 50-100%). Plenty of evidence points to the foam being more important than the plate in terms of performance as well.
Just like Sean mentioned below, it’s maybe not that great to be running in a carbon plated shoe all the time! I would only ever choose to use them on race day and maybe a few specific quicker sessions. We’ve seen carbon plated creeping into training shoes and trail shoe but I’ve got to be honest, I don’t think it’s a good thing especially if you’re new to running 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
So disappointed with the Rebel v4. That foam compresses way too much with zero rebound. New Balance tricked us with that EVA/PEBA blend but there's only 20% PEBA so it just feels like super soft EVA. Even my Nimbus 25 are more dynamic !!!! It's the first shoes ever that give me pain under my metatarsals. And i'm 72 kgs so not too heavy at all. Back to my beloved Brooks Hyperion Max !!!
I was curious how that low percentage of PEBA would mix with the EVA. From everything I've heard, I'm staying away from the Rebel V4. Been loving the FFBlast+ in the NB V3, so much I bought two pairs when they went on sale after the release of the NB V4....which I'm worried went too tame.

Excellent comparison. First Like. For my 65kgs, I prefer the NB fuelcell Rebel v4. Thanks Loyd. A nice weekend for everyone.
Rebel 4 is a GOAT shoe 🫡

Thanks Liam, glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Appreciated the editing on this one. Very slick.

With the xoduss ultra 2 previously being one of your favourite trail shoes, You should take a look at the xodus ultra 3 soon :)
I’ve got a pair on the way so I should be testing them out soon 👍🙂

Like I said in the video, the Rebel V4 definitely works better if you’ve got a wider foot shape 👍 The Mach is a narrow fitting shoe!

Hi Lloyd. Will you be reviewing the Nike Zegama 2?
Yes, I’ll be testing the new Zegama 2 soon hopefully 👍
@@Run4Adventure great stuff!
I knew it...I just knew that you're little lady foot would prefer the Hoka 😉😉😉 I don't run in Hokas so for me it would definitely be the NB
I’m not sure I’ve got ‘Lady feet’ but the Hoka is a narrow fitting shoe 👍😁

Where’d you get those socks ?
The socks are from a brand called Stance 👍
